A vehicle’s electrical system is pro-tected from electrical overload dam-age by fuses. This vehicle has 3 (or 4) fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, the other in the motor compartment near the battery. If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will melt. If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating. If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the system involved and immediately consult an authorized Kia dealer. Three kinds of fuses are used: micro mini type for lower amperage rating, cartridge type, and multi fuse for higher amperage ratings.
WARNING – Fuse replacement
- Never replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.
- A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly a fire.
- Never install a wire or alu-minum foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and a possible fire.
- Replace the fuse with the ignition “OFF”, switch off of all electrical devices and then separate the (-) terminal from the battery in a safe place.
- Do not arbitrarily modify or add on electric wiring of the vehicle.
CAUTION – Fuse Replacement
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system. Do not input any other objects except fuses or relays into fuse/relay terminals such as a driver or wiring. It may cause contact failure and system mal-function.
NOTICE
The actual fuse/relay panel label may differ depending on equip-ment/options.
WARNING – Fuse fire
Do not remove fuses, relays and terminals fastened with bolts or nuts. The fuses, relays and terminals may be fastened incompletely, and it may cause a possible fire. If fuses, relays and terminals fastened with bolts or nuts are blown, we recommend that you consult with an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING – Electrical Fire
- Always ensure replacement fuses and relays are securely fastened when installed. Failure to do so can result in a vehicle fire.
- We recommend that you do not remove fuses, relays and terminals that are fastened with bolts or nuts. If they are not completely re-installed, such looseness may cause electrical arcing and a possible fire. If fuses, relays and terminals fastened with bolts or nuts need replacement, consult with an authorized Kia dealer.
Inner panel fuse replacement
- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Open the fuse panel cover.
- Pull the suspected fuse straight out. Use the fuse puller provided on the motor compartment fuse panel cover.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown.
Spare fuses are provided in the motor compartment fuse panel. - Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips.
If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer. If you do not have a spare, use a fuse of the same rating from a circuit you may not need for operating the vehicle, such as the power outlet fuse. If the headlights or other electrical components do not work and the fuses are OK, check the fuse panel in the motor compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced.
Fuse switch
Always, put the fuse switch at the ON position. If you move the switch to the OFF position, some items such as audio and digital clock must be reset and transmitter (or smart key) may not work properly.
NOTICE
If the vehicle is going to be unused for over 1 month, set all switches to OFF to prevent the batteries from draining.

- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tab and pulling the cover-up.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert the fuse, use the fuse puller in the motor compartment fuse panel.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION – Fuse panel covers
After checking the fuse panel in the motor compartment, securely install the fuse panel cover with using cover locking sound. If not, electrical failures may occur from water contact.

If the multi fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows:
- Turn off the vehicle.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the nuts shown in the pic-ture above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
NOTICE

FAQs
A blown fuse is a safety device that interrupts the flow of electricity when there is too much current passing through a circuit, preventing damage to electrical components.
You can identify a blown fuse by visually inspecting the fuses in the fuse box. If the metal strip inside the fuse is broken, it is likely blown.
Signs may include malfunctioning lights, power windows, radio, or other electrical components that suddenly stop working.
The main fuse box is typically located in the engine compartment of the vehicle.
To access the fuse box, you need to open the cover, which is typically secured with clips or screws. Refer to your owner’s manual for specific instructions.
Typically, you’ll only need a pair of needle-nose pliers or a fuse puller tool to remove and replace a fuse.
You can usually replace a blown fuse yourself as long as you follow safety precautions and use the correct replacement fuse. Seek professional help if you’re unsure.
Some vehicles may come with spare fuses stored in the fuse box, while others may not. Check your owner’s manual for details.
No, using a fuse with a higher amperage rating can lead to electrical damage. Always replace fuses with the correct rating.
Consult your owner’s manual or the fuse box cover for information on the amperage rating needed for each fuse.
Blown fuses can result from electrical faults, overloads, short circuits, or issues with various vehicle components.
It depends on which circuit the blown fuse affects. For critical components like lights or brakes, it’s not safe to drive until fixed.
Fuses can blow due to various factors, including age, wear, electrical issues, or unexpected faults.
Regularly inspect fuses when you notice electrical problems or during routine maintenance to ensure they are in good condition.
Before handling fuses, disconnect the vehicle’s battery to prevent electrical shock or damage. Always use fuses with the correct amperage rating to maintain safety.
