2018 Kia Sorento Instrument Cluster | Dashboard Guide
The 2018 Kia Sorento’s dashboard features an advanced instrument cluster that expertly combines design and utility. This crucial part ensures a safe and knowledgeable driving experience by giving the driver vital information about the condition and performance of the vehicle. The 2018 Kia Sorento’s instrument panel has a wide range of indicators that cover important topics like engine temperature, speed, fuel level, and RPM. The fuel gauge makes sure you are always aware of your fuel levels, preventing unplanned stops, while the speedometer gives you information about the vehicle’s speed in real time.

Instrument Cluster Control
Adjusting Instrument Cluster Illumination
The brightness of the instrument panel illumination is changed by pressing the illumination control button (“+” or “-”) when the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button is ON or the tale lights are turned on.
- If you hold the illumination control button (“+” or “-”), the brightness will be changed continuously.
- If the brightness reaches to the maximum or minimum level, an alarm will sound.
LCD Display Control
The LCD display modes can be changed by using the control buttons on the steering wheel.
- MODE button for changing the LCD modes

Gauges
Speedometer
The speedometer indicates the speed of the vehicle and is calibrated in kilometres per hour (km/h) and miles per hour (mph).
Tachometer
The tachometer indicates the approximate number of engine revolutions per minute (rpm). Use the tachometer to select the correct shift points and to prevent lugging and/or over-revving the engine.
CAUTION
Do not operate the engine within the tachometer’s RED ZONE. This may cause severe engine damage.
Engine coolant temperature gauge
This gauge indicates the temperature of the engine coolant when the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button is ON. If the gauge pointer moves beyond the normal range area toward the “H” position, it indicates overheating that may damage the engine.
Do not continue driving with an overheated engine. If your vehicle overheats, refer to “If the Engine Overheats” in Chapter 6.
WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. The engine coolant is under pressure and could severely burn. Wait until the engine is cool before adding coolant to the reservoir.
Fuel gauge
This gauge indicates the approximate amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.
NOTICE
- The fuel tank capacity is given in chapter 8.
- The fuel gauge is supplemented by a low fuel warning light which will illuminate when the fuel tank is nearly empty.
- On inclines or curves, the fuel gauge pointer may fluctuate or the low fuel warning light may come on earlier than usual due to the movement of fuel in the tank.
Fuel gauge
Stop and obtain additional fuel as soon as possible after the warning light comes on or when the gauge indicator comes close to the E level. Running out of fuel can expose vehicle occupants to danger.
Low fuel
Avoid driving with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of fuel could cause the engine to misfire, which could damage the catalytic converter.
NOTICE
Fuel display may not be accurate if you are filling in sloping places.
Odometer
The odometer Indicates the total distance that the vehicle has been driven and should be used to determine when periodic maintenance should be performed.
- Odometer range: 0 ~999,999 miles or 1,599,999 kilometers.
Outside temperature gauge
This gauge indicates the current outside air temperatures by (1°C).
- Temperature range : -40°F ~ 140°F (-40°C ~ 60°C)
The outside temperature on the display may not change immediately like a general thermometer to prevent the driver from being distracted.
To change the temperature unit (from °C to °F or from °F to °C)
The temperature unit can be changed by using the “User Settings” mode of the LCD Window.
Transaxle Shift Indicator
Automatic Transaxle Shift Indicator
This indicator displays which automatic transmission gear is selected.
- Park: P
- Reverse: R
- Neutral: N
- Drive: D
- Shifting mode: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Icy Road Warning Indicator
- This warning light is to warn the driver the road may be icy.
- When the following conditions occur, the warning light (including the Outside Temperature Gauge) blinks 5 times and then illuminates, and also warning chime sounds once.
- The temperature on the Outside Temperature Gauge is below approximately 40°F (4°C).
If the icy road warning light appears while driving, you should drive more attentively and safely refraining from over-speeding, rapid acceleration, sudden braking or sharp turning, etc.
FAQs
Usually, the check engine light denotes a possible problem with the car’s engine or emissions system. To identify the precise issue, it is best to have the car inspected by a trained mechanic.
To prevent running out of gas, it’s imperative to refuel as soon as the low fuel indicator appears. Low fuel levels have the potential to harm the fuel system when driving.
When tire pressure drops below the advised levels, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) notifies you. To guarantee the best possible performance and safety, check and adjust the tire pressure.
A possible problem with the charging system is indicated by the battery light. To prevent battery failure, it’s critical to have the electrical system of the car inspected.
The engine’s operating temperature is displayed on the temperature gauge. Should it rise suddenly, it might be a sign of an overheating engine. When it cools down, stop the car and, if necessary, seek professional advice.
An possible problem with the anti-lock braking system is indicated by the ABS light. For maximum safety, it’s advisable to have the system checked while the car can still be driven.
When the cruise control system is engaged, the cruise control indicator turns on. It means that the car is staying at the speed that the driver has set.
Low oil pressure can be harmful to the engine and is indicated by the oil pressure light. As soon as possible, come to a stop, check the oil level, and, if required, get professional help.
It serves as a reminder for passengers to buckle up for safety. When the light turns on, buckle up to make sure you’re following all safety precautions.
An issue with the airbag system could be indicated by the airbag light. In order to make sure the airbags are operating properly in the event of an accident, have the car inspected right away.
The Electronic Stability Control system is operational when the ESC light is on. It aids in preserving the stability of the car in difficult driving situations.
When the high beams are engaged, the high-beam indicator lights up, allowing visibility in dimly lit areas. Make sure you turn down the lights when you get close to other cars.
