2018 Kia RIO Dashboard Instrument Cluster Guide
The main hub for tracking and communicating vital data regarding the condition and performance of the 2018 Kia Rio is the instrument cluster. This innovative and precisely designed instrument panel offers drivers real-time data that is necessary for safe and effective driving, going beyond simple aesthetics. The 2018 Kia Rio Instrument Cluster is a sophisticated system that improves driver awareness. It includes advanced indicators related to safety features and driving modes in addition to the more conventional warning symbols like the engine check light. An instrument cluster is a vital tool for preserving vehicle performance and dependability, whether it is alerting the driver about low fuel, tire pressure, or possible system problems.

Instrument Cluster Control
Adjusting Instrument Cluster Illumination
The brightness of the instrument panel illumination is changed by pressing the illumination control button (“+” or “-”) when the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button is ON, or the tale lights are turned on.
- If you hold the illumination control button (“+” or “-”), the brightness will be changed continuously.
- If the brightness reaches to the maximum or minimum level, an alarm will sound.

The LCD display modes can be changed by using the control buttons on the steering wheel.
[Type A]
- TRIP: TRIP button for changing trip modes
- RESET: RESET button for resetting items
[Type B]
- MODE button for change the LCD MODES
- MOVE the scroll switch for select the items
- OK : SET/RESET button for set the items or resetting the items
For the LCD modes, refer to “LCD window” in this chapter
Gauges
Speedometer
The speedometer indicates the forward speed of the vehicle.
The speedometer is calibrated in miles per hour and/or kilometres per hour.
Tachometer
The tachometer indicates the approximate number of engine revolutions per minute (rpm).
Use the tachometer to select the correct shift points and to prevent lugging and/or over-revving the engine The tachometer indicates the
approximate number of engine revolutions per minute (rpm).
Use the tachometer to select the correct shift points and to prevent lugging and/or over-revving the engine.
The tachometer pointer may move slightly when the ignition switch is in ACC or ON position with the engine OFF. This movement is normal and will not affect the accuracy of the tachometer once the engine is running.
CAUTION
Do not operate the engine within the tachometer’s RED ZONE. This may cause severe engine damage.
WARNING
Hot radiator
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. The engine coolant is under pressure and could cause severe burns. Wait until the engine is cool before adding coolant to the reservoir.
Engine coolant temperature gauge
This gauge shows the temperature of the engine coolant when the igni-tion switch is ON.
Do not continue driving with an over-heated engine. If your vehicle overheats, refer to “If the engine overheats” in Chapter 7.
If the gauge pointer moves beyond the normal range area toward the “H” position, it indicates overheating that may damage the engine.
Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge indicates the approximate amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank. The fuel tank capacity is given in chapter 9. The fuel gauge is supplemented by a low fuel warning light, which will illuminate when the fuel tank is nearly empty.
On inclines or curves, the fuel gauge pointer may fluctuate or the low fuel warning light may come on earlier than usual due to the movement of fuel in the tank.
NOTICE
Running out of fuel can expose vehicle occupants to danger. You must stop and obtain additional fuel as soon as possible after the warning light comes on or when the gauge indicator comes close to the “E (Empty)” level.
CAUTION
Low fuel
Avoid driving with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of fuel could cause the engine to misfire, which could damage the catalytic converter.
Odometer
The odometer Indicates the total distance that the vehicle has been driven and should be used to determine when periodic maintenance should be performed.
- Odometer range: 0 ~999,999 miles or 1,599,999 km.
Outside temperature gauge
This gauge indicates the current outside air temperatures by (1°C).
-
Temperature range :
-
Type A : -40°F ~ 199°F (-40°C ~ 85°C)
-
Type B : – 40°F ~ 211°F (- 40°C ~ 85°C)
The outside temperature on the display may not change immediately like a general thermometer to prevent the driver from being inattentive.
To change the temperature unit (from°C to °F or from °F to °C)
Type A Cluster
Press the TRIP button for 5 seconds and more.
Type B Cluster
The temperature unit can be changed by using the “User Settings” mode of the LCD Windows.
For more details, refer to “LCD Windows” in this chapter.
Transaxle Shift Indicator
Automatic Transaxle Shift Indicator
This indicator displays which automatic transmission gear is selected.
- Park: P
- Reverse: R
- Neutral: N
- Drive: D
- Shifting mode: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Manual transaxle shift indicator (if equipped)
This indicator informs which gear is desired while driving to save fuel.
-
Shifting up : ▲2, ▲3, ▲4, ▲5, ▲6
-
Shifting down : ▼3, ▼4, ▼5
For example
- 3 : Indicates that shifting up to the 3rd gear is desired (currently the shift lever is in the 2nd or 1st gear).
- 3 : Indicates that shifting down to the 3rd gear is desired (currently the shift lever is in the 4th, 5th, or 6th gear).
When the system is not working properly, the indicator is not displayed.
FAQs
The Check Engine light suggests that there might be a problem with the engine or emissions system of the car. To find and fix the specific issue, it is best to have the car inspected by a trained mechanic.
The anti-lock braking system may be having problems, as indicated by the ABS warning light. For maximum safety, it is imperative that the braking system be inspected right away.
Low tire pressure is indicated by the TPMS light. To prevent potential safety hazards, check and adjust tire pressure in accordance with the recommended levels in the owner’s manual.
A problem with the charging system may be indicated by the Battery Warning light. To inspect the battery, alternator, and associated parts, get expert assistance.
Low oil pressure is indicated by the Oil Pressure Warning light. Check the oil level and turn off the engine as soon as possible. Add oil if it’s low, and get expert assistance if the issue continues.
The stability control system may be experiencing problems, as indicated by the ESC light. Use caution when driving, and have the system checked to make sure it’s working properly.
