Instrument Cluster Control
Adjusting instrument cluster illumination
When the vehicle’s parking lights or headlights are on, press the illumination control button to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel illumination. When pressing the illumination control button, the interior switch illumination intensity is also adjusted. The selected brightness of illumination can be saved in the Driver Position Memory System (if equipped).
For more information, refer to “Driver position Memory System” in this chapter.
- The brightness of the instrument panel illumination is displayed.
- If the brightness reaches the maximum or minimum level, an alarm will sound.
LCD Display Control
The LCD display modes can be changed by using the control buttons on the steering wheel.
- MODE button for changing modes
- ▲, ▼ : MOVE switch for changing items
- OK : SELECT/RESET button for setting or resetting the selected item
For more information on LCD Modes, refer to “LCD Display” in the next pages of this chapter.
Gauges
Speedometer
The speedometer indicates the speed of the vehicle and is calibrated in miles per hour (mph) and/or kilometers\ per hour (km/h).
Tachometer
The tachometer indicates the approximate number of engine revolutions per minute (rpm). Use the tachometer to select the correct shift points and to prevent lugging and/or over-revving the engine.
NOTICE
Do not operate the engine within the tachometer’s RED ZONE. This may cause severe engine damage.
Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
This gauge indicates the temperature of the engine coolant when the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button is ON.
NOTICE
If the gauge pointer moves beyond the normal range area toward the “H” position, it indicates overheating that may damage the engine. Do not continue driving with an overheated engine. If your vehicle overheats, refer to “If the Engine Overheats” in chapter 6.
WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. The engine coolant is under pressure and could severely burn. Wait until the engine is cool before adding coolant to the reservoir.
Fuel Gauge
This gauge indicates the approximate amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.
Information
- The fuel tank capacity is given in chapter 8.
- The fuel gauge is supplemented by alow fuel warning light, which will illuminate when the fuel tank is nearly empty.
- On inclines or curves, the fuel gauge pointer may fluctuate or the low fuel warning light may come on earlier than usual due to the movement of fuel in the tank.
WARNING
Running out of fuel can expose vehicle occupants to danger. You must stop and obtain additional fuel as soon as possible after the warning light comes on or when the gauge indicator comes close to the “E (Empty)” level.
NOTICE
Avoid driving with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of fuel could cause the engine to misfire, damaging the catalytic converter.
Odometer
The odometer indicates the total distance that the vehicle has been driven and should be used to determine when periodic maintenance should be performed.
Outside temperature gauge
This gauge indicates the current outside air temperatures by 1°F (1°C).
- Temperature range : -40°F ~ 140°F (-40°C ~ 60°C)
The outside temperature on the display may not change immediately like a general thermometer to prevent the driver from being inattentive.
To change the temperature unit from °F to °C or °C to °F:
- Go to User Settings Mode ➝ Other Features ➝ Temperature Unit.
- Press the AUTO button for 3 seconds while pressing the OFF button. (Automatic climate control system)
Both the temperature unit on the cluster LCD display and climate control screen will change. Automatic transmission shift indicator / Dual clutch transmission shift indicator (If equipped)
This indicator displays which automatic transmission shift lever is selected.
- Park: P
- Reverse: R
- Neutral: N
- Drive: D
- Sports Mode
- Auto Transmission: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
- Dual Clutch Transmission: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Shift indicator pop-up (if equipped)
The pop-up displays the current gear position selected for 2 seconds (P/R/N/D).
Icy Road Warning Light (if equipped)
This warning light is to warn the driver the road may be icy. When the following conditions occur, the warning light (including Outside Temperature Gauge) blinks 10 times and then illuminates, and also warning chime sounds 3 times.
- The temperature on the Outside Temperature Gauge is below approximately 4°C (40°F).
- The ignition switch or the Engine Start/Stop button is in the ON position.
Information
If the icy road warning light appears while driving, you should drive more attentively and safely refraining from over-speeding, rapid acceleration, sudden braking or sharp turning, etc.
FAQs
Each indicator serves as a communication tool to alert you about various aspects of your vehicle’s status or potential issues.
Warning indicators typically illuminate in red or amber, signaling potential issues that require immediate attention, while informational indicators often appear in blue or green, providing general information about the vehicle’s status.
The check engine light signals a potential issue with the engine or emissions system, and it’s crucial to have it diagnosed by a professional to prevent further damage.
The tire pressure warning light indicates low tire pressure in one or more tires, which can affect vehicle handling and fuel efficiency. Check and adjust tire pressure accordingly.
The battery warning light suggests a malfunction in the charging system, which may lead to a dead battery or stalling. Seek immediate attention to prevent vehicle breakdown.
The ABS warning light signifies an issue with the anti-lock braking system, and while it’s typically safe to drive with it illuminated, it’s crucial to have it inspected to ensure optimal braking performance.
Pull over safely and turn off the engine immediately to prevent engine damage. Check the oil level and contact a mechanic for further assistance.
Severity is often indicated by the color and flashing pattern of the lights. Red lights usually signify critical issues requiring immediate attention, while amber or yellow lights may indicate less urgent problems.
The coolant temperature warning light indicates engine overheating, which can lead to severe damage if ignored. Safely pull over, allow the engine to cool, and check coolant levels before proceeding.
Depending on the indicator, you may be able to reset it manually through the vehicle’s settings or by disconnecting the battery for a brief period.
The airbag warning light suggests a malfunction in the airbag system, which may compromise occupant safety in the event of a collision. Have it inspected by a professional immediately.
The fuel level warning light indicates low fuel levels, and while you may have some reserve fuel remaining, it’s best to refuel as soon as possible to avoid running out of gas.
It’s generally advisable to consult the owner’s manual for specific guidance on each indicator. If in doubt, err on the side of caution and seek professional assistance.
