WARNING!
A special tool is required to perform this procedure. Damage to the vehicle or serious injury or death may occur if the procedure is performed improperly. Please contact an authorized dealer to have this procedure performed.
TOWING A DISABLED VEHICLE
This section describes procedures for towing a disabled vehicle using a commercial towing service.
CAUTION!
- The vehicle should be transported with all four wheels OFF the ground on the flatbed of a roadside assistance vehicle. Avoid towing with only the front (or rear) wheels lifted. When towing with only the front (or rear) wheels lifted, in addition to damaging the body, it could damage the transmission.
- Do not use sling-type equipment when towing. Vehicle damage may occur.
CAUTION!
- When securing the vehicle to a flatbed truck, do not attach to the front or rear suspension components. Damage to your vehicle may result from improper towing.
- Ensure that the Electric Park Brake is released, and remains released while being towed.
- Damage from improper towing is not covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
The operators of the assistance vehicle must be informed about the vehicle’s minimum height from the ground to avoid contact between the ends of the fascia/bumper with the equipment of the breakdown truck.
The following image illustrates the front and rear attachment corners of the vehicle, to be taken into consideration when loading the vehicle on the assistance vehicle.
Front And Rear Loading Angles
– | RWD Models |
AWD Models |
A — Front Loading Angle | 12.880° | 15.160° |
B — Rear Loading Angle | 17.105° | 18.400° |
REAR WHEEL DRIVE (RWD) MODELS
It is recommended to tow the vehicle with all four wheels OFF the ground on the flatbed of a roadside assistance vehicle.
CAUTION!
- Do not use sling-type equipment when towing. Vehicle damage may occur.
- When securing the vehicle to a flatbed truck, do not attach to the front or rear suspension components. Damage to your vehicle may result from improper towing.
- Ensure that the Electric Park Brake is released, and remains released while being towed.
If an assistance vehicle with a flatbed is not available, the vehicle must be towed with the rear wheels lifted from the ground using a trailer or special equipment allowing lifting of the rear wheels.

ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) MODELS
It is recommended to tow the vehicle with all four wheels OFF the ground on the flatbed of a roadside assistance vehicle.
CAUTION!
- DO NOT flat tow this vehicle. Damage to the drivetrain will result.
- DO NOT dolly tow this vehicle. The use of a towing dolly can cause significant damage to your vehicle.
Towing this vehicle in violation of the approved requirements can cause severe transmission damage. Damage from improper towing is not covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
FAQs
The primary distinction lies in how power is distributed to the wheels. Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) sends power exclusively to the rear wheels, while all-wheel-drive (AWD) distributes power to all four wheels.
The all-wheel-drive (AWD) system typically provides superior traction, especially in slippery or adverse road conditions such as rain, snow, or gravel.
Performance superiority can vary based on driving conditions and preferences. RWD models might offer a more engaging driving experience due to their rear-wheel power delivery, while AWD versions provide added stability and traction.
Generally, AWD models tend to have slightly lower fuel efficiency due to the additional weight and mechanical complexity of the AWD system.
The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version often delivers a more dynamic and engaging driving experience, particularly for enthusiasts seeking precise handling and a traditional sports sedan feel.
AWD distributes power to all four wheels, improving traction and stability on slippery surfaces like snow, ice, or wet roads, thereby enhancing safety and confidence in adverse conditions.
RWD models might have a slight edge in highway fuel economy due to reduced mechanical losses from powering fewer wheels, but the difference is typically marginal.
Enthusiasts often prefer the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version for spirited driving on dry roads and tracks due to its traditional sporty dynamics and tail-happy behaviour, allowing for controlled slides and precise cornering.
Yes, the AWD system typically adds weight due to the additional components required, such as extra driveshafts, differentials, and transfer cases.
RWD configurations tend to offer a more balanced weight distribution, which can contribute to better handling dynamics, particularly during aggressive cornering.
While the Alfa Romeo Giulia is primarily a sports sedan designed for on-road performance, the AWD system can enhance traction and stability on unpaved roads or rough terrain, making it more capable for light off-road use.
Generally, AWD models tend to be slightly more expensive due to the added cost of the AWD system and its components.
AWD models often exhibit quicker acceleration and launch performance, thanks to the improved traction and grip provided by all four wheels receiving power simultaneously.
Yes, many enthusiasts appreciate the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration for its traditional, purist driving experience, characterized by precise handling and the potential for controlled oversteer.
AWD systems distribute power to all four wheels, enhancing stability during high-speed cornering by minimizing understeer and maximizing traction, resulting in a more confident driving experience.
Yes, RWD configurations are often favoured by enthusiasts for drifting and controlled slides due to their propensity for oversteer and tail-out behaviour, which can be challenging to achieve with AWD systems.
