Storage and convenience
Power sources
When the ignition is switched on, you may be able to use multiple power sources for external devices, depending on the vehicle equipment.
12-volt sockets
You can connect electrical accessories to the 12 volt sockets. The power usage from the sockets must not exceed a total of 120 watts. Do not connect multiple devices to the sockets in the ve hicle at the same time. The 12-volt sockets are labeled with the 12V symbol. They are located in the front center console, in the rear* and on the side trim panel in the luggage compartment*.
USB ports
Applies to: vehicles with USB port You can charge mobile devices using the USB ports. The USB ports are labeled with the or c+:::::i symbol or CHARGE ONLY.
Cup holders
Applies to: vehicles with cup holders Depending on vehicle equipment, your vehicle may have cup holders in the front center console and in the rear center armrest.
Cup holders in the rear center armrest*
- Fold down the center armrest* by pressing on the release lever (D ¢ page 86, fig. 82.
- Press the button to open the cup holder ¢ fig. 76.
- To close the cup holder, fold the cover back until it clicks into place.
Climatized cup holders
This applies to: vehicles with climatized cup holders
- Press the button to keep your beverage cold. The LED turns blue@.
- Press the button again to keep your beverage warm. The LED turns red@.
- To turn off the cooling or heating function, press the button repeatedly until the LEDs© and @ turn off.
When cooling, the temperature will reach approximately 38 °F (3 °(). When heating, the temperature will reach approximately 128 °F (53 °(). When the temperature reaches 104 °F (40 °C), the heat indicator@ also turns on to remind you not to touch the plate when it is too hot. The display turns off if the temperature falls below this value.
Storage and compartments
Additional storage options Depending on vehicle equipment, there are a variety of storage areas, compartments, and retainers, such as the glove compartment, for safely storing and securing objects.
WARNING
- To reduce the risk of injury, make sure all storage compartments are always closed while driving.
- Loose objects can be thrown around the vehicle interior during sudden driving or braking maneuvers, which increases the risk of an accident. Store objects securely while driving.
- Only use the storage compartments in the door trim panels to store small objects that will not stick out of the compartment and impair the function of the side airbags.
- Due to strength reasons, only secure objects up to 11 lbs (5 kg) with the straps* in the luggage compartment. Heavier objects are not adequately secured. There is risk of personal injury.
- Only lightweight clothing should be hung from the garment hooks in the vehicle. Do not use clothes hangers to hang clothing. The pockets of the clothing must not contain any heavy, breakable, or sharp-edged objects. This could impair the effectiveness of the side curtain airbags.
- Make sure your view toward the rear is not blocked, for example by hanging clothing or objects in the vehicle.
Luggage compartment
General information
All pieces of luggage or objects must be securely fastened in the luggage compartment. Note the following to maintain good vehicle handling:
- Distribute the load evenly in the luggage compartment.
- Stow heavy luggage as far forward in the luggage compartment as possible.
- Use non-elastic cords attached to the tie-downs to secure objects.
Luggage compartment cover
This applies to: vehicles with luggage compartment cover
Observe the safety precautions¢ page 84.
- To attach the luggage compartment cover, pull the cover out by the handle and secure it in the mounting eyelets in the side trim panel ¢ fig. 78.
- To remove the luggage compartment cover, pull both levers firmly in the direction of the arrow¢ fig. 79 and remove the cover upward.
- To install the luggage compartment cover, place the cover in the mounts on the side trim panels on the left and right side.
- Press the cover down into the right mount until it locks into place.
Rear lowering
Applies to: vehicles with air suspension
The rear of the vehicle can be lowered to make loading and unloading easier.
Requirement: all vehicle doors must be closed. The trailer mode for air suspension is switched off.
- Open the luggage compartment lid.
- Press the lower section of the button@. The rear of the vehicle lowers.
- Press the upper section of the button@. The rear of the vehicle will lift.
The LED in the button will turn on while the vehicle is lowering. When the loading level has been reached, the LED will stay on as long as the rear of the vehicle is in the lowered position. The LED turns off when the vehicle returns to the original level. The rear of the vehicle will be automatically raised when you select another mode or start to drive.
Increasing the size of the cargo area from inside the passenger compartment
Applies to: vehicles with folding backrests
Depending on the vehicle equipment, it may be possible to fold the backrests forward separately or together. Observe the safety precautions¢ page 84.
Folding the outer rear backrests forward and backward
- Pull the release lever@ in the direction of the arrow or pull the lever* ¢ page 65, fig. 59 upward. The backrest will swing forward. Allow it to lock into the lowest position .
- Fold the backrest back up again until it locks in to place and the red marking@ is no longer visible.
Folding the center rear backrest forward and backward
- Pull on the upper release lever (D and fold the backrest forward@, or
- Press the release button*@ downward. The red marking will become visible. Fold the backrest forward.
- Fold the backrest back up again until it locks into place and the red marking@ is no longer visible.
Increasing the size of the cargo area from inside the luggage compartment
This applies to: vehicles with release lever in the luggage compartment Depending on the vehicle equipment, it may be possible to fold the backrests forward separately or together. Observe the safety precautions¢ page 84.
- Pull the release lever¢ fig. 83 in the direction of the arrow to fold the backrest forward.
- To set up the backrest again, fold it back until it locks or the red marking@¢ page 86 fig. Bl is no longer visible.
Partition net1)
Applies to: vehicles with partition net
The partition net prevents objects from sliding into the passenger compartment. You can attach the partition net behind the front or rear seats. Use the mounting eyelets(!) or@for this. Observe the safety precautions ¢ page 84.
- Fold the backrest forward, if necessary ¢page 86.
- To attach the partition net, secure it in the upper mounting eyelets first, and then in the lower mounting eyelets.
- Tighten and secure the straps@.
- Slide the lower section of the partition net© to the desired level.
- To release the partition net, loosen the strap ®·

- Applies to: vehicles with luggage compartment cover: The luggage compartment cover is not a surface for storing objects. Objects placed on the cover increase the risk of injury to all vehicle occupants during sudden driving or braking maneuvers or in the event of an accident.
- Applies to: vehicles with luggage compartment cover: The luggage compartment cover must always be securely fastened when in use to reduce the risk of an accident.
- Loose objects can be thrown around the vehicle interior during sudden driving or braking maneuvers, which increases the risk of an accident. Always stow objects securely in the luggage compartment and secure them at the tie-downs. Use straps suitable for heavy objects.
- If pieces of luggage or objects are secured to the tie-downs with unsuitable or damaged straps, this can increase the risk of injury during braking maneuvers or accidents.
- When transporting heavy objects, the vehicle characteristics will change due to the shift in the center of gravity, which increases the risk of an accident. You may need to adapt your driving style and speed to the current conditions.
- The cargo net* is only strong enough to secure light objects. Heavy objects are not adequately secured. Attempting to secure heavy objects increases the risk of injury.
- Never exceed the permitted axle and load and vehicle weight c::> page 314.
- Never secure a child safety seat to the tiedowns.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended, especially if the luggage compartment lid is open. Children could enter the luggage compartment and close the luggage compartment lid from the inside. This creates the risk of fatal injury, since the children would be locked in and may not be able to escape by themselves.
- Do not allow children to play in or on the vehicle. Close and lock the luggage compartment lid as well as all other doors when you leave the vehicle.
- Never transport passengers in the luggage compartment. Every passenger must be correctly secured with the safety belts in the vehicle c::> page 67.
- Be careful when releasing the backrest and folding it forward. To reduce the risk of being pinched, pay attention and check when folding backrests forward.
- The backrest must be securely latched so objects cannot slide forward out of the luggage compartment during sudden braking.
- The backrest must be latched securely to ensure that the safety belt is protecting the center seating position.
- Always pull forward on the backrest to make sure it is check if it is correctly locked in place.
