The 2023 X1 has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, just like the outgoing model, however, the new version has 241 horsepower, an increase of 13. This time around, all-wheel drive is standard, and the X1 also gets a brand-new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Our test X1 xDrive28i reached 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. The X1 is a delightful car to drive on winding roads thanks to its newly engineered suspension, which also increases handling and stability. Avoid confusing the optional M Sport package, which adds performance-improving equipment like an adjustable suspension system and shift paddles located on the steering wheel, with the M model, which could arrive later. Since the 2022 X1 was already large for its size, the 2023 model’s mild lengthening, heightening, and widening translate to only marginally more passenger space. With a toggle-switch shift lever, a floating center console, an all-digital dashboard, and designer features like textured speaker grilles, the interior styling is more contemporary this time. Ambient interior lighting, a power liftgate, and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard on all versions. BMW’s smallest SUV now features the company’s most recent iDrive 8 infotainment system. The X1’s digital dashboard is a sharp-looking single panel that functions as both a gauge display and an infotainment screen, similar to the larger iX electric SUV and the premium 7-series sedan. SiriusXM satellite radio is also available on all models, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The Convenience package offers a wireless smartphone charging pad, and the Premium package includes a head-up display, a Harman/Kardon sound, and a 360-degree exterior camera system.

The class-average limited warranty and powertrain protection offered by BMW are supplemented by three years of free scheduled maintenance. The powertrain is covered for six years or 70,000 miles by the same limited warranties offered by the Lexus NX and Lincoln Corsair, however, both have shorter periods of free regular maintenance.
