The Dodge Durango satisfies the majority of a family’s needs while maintaining a sense of beefiness from the era of large V8 muscle vehicles. It has three rows of seats, plenty of creature amenities, and one of the most competitive towing capacities in its class. A 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is an option; a 3.6-liter V-6 is standard. For those who crave more than the Hemi’s 360 horsepower, monstrously potent SRT variants are available, ranging from the 475-hp Durango SRT 392 to the supercharged, 710-hp Durango SRT Hellcat, both of which are reviewed separately. Consider options that we value highly if you require an SUV but don’t like bulky American muscle, such as the Ford Bronco, Hyundai Palisade, and the Kia Telluride. These rivals provide customers with most or all of the capabilities of a Durango but at a lower cost. For instance, the starting price for each of those three vehicles is under $40,000, and the Korean rivals have a plethora of standard safety technology, while the Dodge offers none.
What has changed for 2023?
Four new exterior color choices—Frostbite, Night Moves, Red Oxide, and Triple Nickel—bring the total number of available colors for the Durango up to eight for the 2023 model year, along with a few minor revisions. All Durango models now come standard with heated front seats, and base SXT vehicles now include forward collision warning as an option.
