TECHNOLOGY

Assist & Slipper Clutch

The Assist & Slipper Clutch uses two different cams—an assist cam and a slipper cam—to move the clutch hub and operation plate either together or apart based on feedback from racing activity. When the clutch hub and operating plate are pulled together to compress the clutch plates, the assist cam acts as a self-servo mechanism. This makes it possible to lessen the overall clutch spring load, which makes operating the clutch feel lighter.

Economical Riding Indicator

Kawasaki models are capable of a high level of fuel efficiency thanks to high-precision electronic engine management. The rider’s control over the throttle, the gear he or she chooses, and other factors have a significant impact on fuel usage. The Economical Riding Indicator is a feature that shows when the current riding circumstances are using little fuel. Regardless of vehicle speed, engine speed, throttle position, and other riding circumstances, the device continuously measures fuel usage. An “ECO” symbol shows on the LCD display of the instrument panel when fuel consumption is low for a particular speed (i.e., fuel efficiency is good). Fuel usage can be decreased by riding with the “ECO” mark.

Electronic Cruise Control

By just pressing a button, electronic cruise control enables a preset speed (engine rpm) to be maintained. Once engaged, the rider need not continually use the throttle. This allows for easy cruising and reduces right-hand discomfort when traveling long distances. enhancing the degree of riding comfort.

Electronic Throttle Valves

Kawasaki’s fully electronic throttle actuation system enables the ECU to control the volume of both the fuel (via fuel injectors) and the air (via throttle valves) delivered to the engine. Ideal fuel injection and throttle valve position results in smooth, natural engine response and the ideal engine output. The system also makes a significant contribution to reduced emissions. Electronic throttle valves also enable more precise control of electronic engine management systems like S-KTRC and KTRC and allow the implementation of electronic systems like KLCM, Kawasaki Engine Brake Control, and Electronic Cruise Control.

KCMF (KAWASAKI CORNERING MANAGEMENT FUNCTION)

KCMF monitors engine and chassis parameters throughout the corner, from entry through the apex to corner exit, modulating brake force and engine power to facilitate smooth transitions from acceleration to braking and back again, and helping riders in tracing their line. This is done using the most recent version of Kawasaki’s advanced modeling software and feedback from a compact IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), which provides an even clearer real-time picture of chassis orientation. Depending on the model, the systems that KCMF manages may include:

  • S-KTRC/KTRC (includes wheel lift management and traction control)
  • KLCM is designed to maximize acceleration from a stop and includes traction management and wheel lift management.
  • KIBS (which includes managing corner braking and pitching)
  • Engine brake control for Kawasaki

KTRC (KAWASAKI TRACTION CONTROL)

The innovative traction control system from Kawasaki, known as KTRC, improves sport riding performance while also giving riders the confidence to navigate slick terrain. To accommodate the riding environment and the rider’s preferences, a variety of rider-selectable modes (the number of modes varies by model) allow increasingly higher levels of intrusion. Less obtrusive modes keep the best traction when turning. They were created with sport riding in mind and make it easier to accelerate out of curves by optimizing rear-wheel forward drive. Furthermore, because Kawasaki’s sophisticated software bases its dynamic analysis on the orientation of the chassis relative to the track surface (rather than relative to a horizontal plane), it is able to account for corner camber, gradient, etc. and react accordingly.

KQS (KAWASAKI QUICK SHIFTER)

KQS recognizes when the shift lever has been activated and provides a signal to the ECU to cut ignition so that the next gear can be engaged without using the clutch. This feature was created to help riders maximize their acceleration on the track. When accelerating on models with clutchless downshifts, the system automatically regulates engine speed so that the next lower gear can be chosen without applying the clutch.

ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM)

Kawasaki ABS systems continuously track wheel speed using front and rear wheel sensors. The ABS ECU instructs the pump in the ABS unit to vary brake fluid pressure (releasing and reapplying pressure so that traction can be restored) until normal operation resumes should data from either of the sensors indicate that a wheel lock has occurred. ABS provides rider reassurance, which increases riding enjoyment.

HORIZONTAL BACK-LINK REAR SUSPENSION

With the Kawasaki conventional Uni-Trak® rear suspension, which mounts the shock unit vertically, the shock unit is practically horizontal with the horizontal back-link rear suspension. Mass centralization is substantially aided by the original Kawasaki suspension system, which places the shock unit very near the bike’s centre of gravity. Additionally, as neither linkage nor shock unit protrudes from beneath the swingarm, more room is available for the exhaust pre-chamber, which is located slightly upstream of the silencer. Larger pre-chambers allow for the reduction of silencer capacity and the mass centralization of heavier exhaust components by bringing them closer to the center of the bike.
