Front seats

Safety information
WARNING Seat adjustments while driving can lead to unexpected movements of the seat. Vehicle control could be lost. There is a risk of an accident. Only adjust the seat on the driver’s side when the vehicle is stationary.

Electrically adjustable seats

General information
The seat setting for the driver’s seat is stored for the profile currently used. When the vehicle is unlocked via the remote control, the position is automatically retrieved if the function, refer to page 51, is activated for this purpose.
The current seat position can be stored using the memory function, refer to page 66.

Lumbar support
The curvature of the seat backrest can be adjusted in a way that it supports the lumbar region of the spine. The lower back and the spine are supported for upright posture.

  • Press the front/rear section of the button:
    The curvature is increased/decreased.
  • Press the upper/lower sec‐tion of the button:
    The curvature is shifted up/down.

Backrest width
Concept
Adjusting the backrest width may improve lateral support.

General information
You can change the backrest width by adjust‐ing the side wings of the backrest.

Settings 

  • Press the front section of the button:
    The backrest width decreases.
  • Press the rear section of the button:
    The backrest width increases.

Upper backrest
Concept
The upper backrest supports the back in the shoulder area. A correct setting leads to a relaxed seating position and reduces strain on the shoulder muscles.

Seat heating distribution
The heating action in the seat cushion and the seat backrest can be distributed in different ways.
Via iDrive:

  1. “Climate”
  2. Front seat heating”
  3. Select desired seat.
  4. Turn the Controller to set the seat heating distribution.

Active seat ventilation, front

Concept
The seat cushion and backrest surfaces are cooled by means of integrated fans.
The ventilation cools the seat, for instance, if the car’s interior is overheated or for continuous cooling at high temperatures.

Rear seats

The second row of seats Safety information
WARNING There is a risk of jamming when folding down the center armrest in the rear. There is a risk of injury. Make sure that the area of movement of the center armrest is clear during fold‐ing down.
When folding back the second row of seats, there is a danger of jamming. There is a risk of injury or risk of damage to property. Make sure that the area of movement of the second row of seats is clear prior to folding down.
Seats in the second row of seats are not locked when they are folded down and they can move. There is a risk of injury and risk of damage to property. Only fold the seats in the second row down while loading. When driving without a load, fold back and lock the seats in the second row before driving away.

Forward/backward

  1. Pull the lever, arrow 1, and slide the seat in the desired direction.
  2. Release lever and move seat slightly forward or back to get it to latch in place.

Backrest tilt
The backrest tilt can be adjusted to six settings.
Pull the lever, and apply your weight to the backrest or lift it off, as necessary.

Access to the third row of seats

  1. 1. Fold middle section of the second seat row up as necessary. When the middle section is folded down, comfortable entry is not possible.
  2. 2. Pull the lever and fold the seat forward.
    If the second row of seats is not locked, a warning symbol is displayed in the instrument cluster.

Switching on
Press button once for each temperature level.
The maximum temperature is reached when three LEDs are lit.
If the trip is continued within approx. 15 minutes after a stop, seat heating is activated automatically with the temperature selected last.
When ECO PRO is activated, refer to
page 217, the heater output is reduced.

Third row of seats
General information
The third row of seats consists of two divided seats.
Fold up the backrest

WARNING
If a rear seat backrest is not locked, un‐secured cargo can be thrown into the car’s exterior; for instance, in the event of an accident, braking or an evasive maneuver. There is a risk of injury. Make sure that the rear seat backrest is locked after folding it back.

  1. Remove the cargo cover, refer to page 196.
  2. Pull the lever to unlock the backrest.
  3. Fold up and engage the backrest.
  4. Adjust the head restraint correctly as needed.

Fold the backrests down

  1. Move the head restraints down.
  2. 2. Pull the lever to unlock the backrests.
  3. Fold the backrests down.

Safety belts

Number of safety belts and safety belt buckles
The vehicle is fitted with five or seven safety belts to ensure occupant safety. However, they can only offer protection when adjusted correctly.
The two outer safety belt buckles of the 2nd row of seats are intended for the persons sit‐ting on the left and right.
The center safety belt buckle of the 2nd row of seats is intended for the person sitting in the middle.

General information
Always make sure that safety belts are being worn by all occupants before driving off. Although airbags enhance safety by providing added protection, they are not a substitute for safety belts.
The upper shoulder strap’s anchorage point will be correct for adult seat occupants of every build if the seat is correctly adjusted.

Safety information

WARNING
Use of a safety belt to buckle more than one person will potentially defeat the ability of the safety belt to serve its protective function. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Do not allow more than one person to wear a single safety belt. Infants and children are not allowed on an occupant’s lap, but must be transported and secured in designated child restraint systems.
The efficacy of safety gear, including safety belts, can be limited or lost when safety belts are fastened incorrectly. An incorrectly fastened safety belt can cause additional injuries, for instance in the event of an accident or during braking and evasive maneuvers. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Make sure that all occupants are wearing safety belts correctly.
With a rear backrest that is not locked, the protective function of the middle safety belt is not guaranteed. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. If you are using the middle safety belt, lock the wider rear seat backrest.
The efficacy of safety gear, including safety belts, may not be fully functional or fail in the following situations:

  • The safety belts or safety belt buckles are damaged, soiled, or changed in any other way.
  • Belt tensioners or belt retractors were modified.

Safety belts can be imperceptibly damaged in the event of an accident. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Do not modify safety belts, safety belt buckles, belt tensioners, belt retractors or belt anchors and keep them clean. Have the safety belts checked after an accident at the dealer’s service center or an‐other qualified service center or repair shop.

Correct use of safety belts

  • Wear the safety belt twist-free and tight to your body over your lap and shoulders.
  • Wear the safety belt deep on your hips over your lap. The safety belt may not press on your stomach.
  • Do not rub the safety belt against sharp edges, or guide it or jam it in across hard or fragile objects.
  • Avoid thick clothing.
  • Re-tighten the safety belt frequently up‐ward around your upper body.

Buckling the safety belt

  1. Slowly guide the safety belt out of the holder when fastening it.
  2. Insert the tongue plate into the safety belt buckle. The safety belt buckle must engage audibly.

To ease access to the safety belt buckle, an adjustable slider is available on the belt to help position the buckle when not in use.
When the safety belt is buckled, the belt strap is automatically tightened once after the vehicle drove off.

Unbuckling the safety belt

  1. Hold the safety belt firmly.
  2. Press the red button in the belt buckle.
  3. Guide the safety belt back into its roll-up mechanism.
