Warning with braking function

Display
If there is a risk of collision with a detected vehicle, a warning light is shown in the instrument cluster and, where applicable, in the Head-up display.

2024 BMW 2 Series-Sensors-fig 4The warning light is illuminated red: warning.
Brake and increase the distance.

2024 BMW 2 Series-Sensors-fig 4The warning light flashes red and a signal sounds acute warning.
Brake and take avoidance manoeuvre if necessary.

Warning

A warning is given for example if there is an impending risk of collision or the distance from the vehicle ahead is very short.

The driver must intervene personally when a warning is given.

Acute warning with brake function
An acute warning is given when the vehicle is approaching another object at a high differential speed and there is an immediate risk of collision.
Actively intervene in the event of an acute warning, e.g. brake. Depending on the driv-ing situation and the vehicle’s equipment, the acute warning may be supported by a brief brake jolt.
If the warning time setting is “Late”, the brake jolt does not occur.
If necessary, the system can also assist by au-tomatically performing a brake intervention if there is a risk of collision.
An acute warning can be triggered even without a previous warning.

Brake intervention
The warning prompts the driver to intervene personally. When the brake pedal is pressed quickly and hard, the maximum brake force of the vehicle is used.
The system can also assist by automatically performing a brake intervention if there is a risk of collision.
At low speeds, the vehicle can be braked to a standstill.
Manual transmission: when the vehicle is braked to a standstill through brake intervention, the engine may shut off.
City braking function: brake intervention takes place at up to approx. 80 km/h, 50 mph.
With radar sensor: brake intervention takes place at up to approx. 250 km/h, 155 mph.
At speeds above approx. 210 km/h, 130 mph, brake intervention takes the form of a brake jolt. There is no automatic deceleration.
A brake intervention can be discontinued either by pressing the accelerator pedal sufficiently or by active steering wheel movement.

System limits

Safety information

WARNING
Due to system limitations, the system may not respond at all or may respond too late, incorrectly or for no reason. There is a risk of accident or material damage. Observe the information on the system limits and intervene actively if necessary.

Detection range2024 BMW 2 Series-Sensors-fig 5
The detection capability of the system is limited.

  • When driving stability control systems are limited or deactivated, for example, DSC OFF.
  • Up to 10 seconds after starting the engine using the Start/Stop button.

Sensitivity of the warnings
The higher the sensitivity of the warning settings, for example, the warning time, the more warnings are displayed. As a result, there may also be an increased number of premature or unjustified warnings and responses.

Pedestrian Warning with City Braking Function

Principle
The pedestrian warning warns of the risk
of collision with pedestrians and cyclists at speeds that are common in towns and cities and brakes automatically if necessary. If an accident cannot be avoided, the system helps to reduce the collision speed.

General
Sensors detect the traffic situation in their detection range.
At vehicle speeds greater than approx. 5 km/h, approx. 3 mph, this system warns of a possible risk of collision with pedestrians and cyclists.

Safety information

WARNING
The system does not relieve you of your responsibility to assess the traffic situation correctly. Due to system limits, it cannot respond independently and appropriately in all traffic situations. There is a risk of acci-dent. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conditions. Observe the traffic situation, be ready to take over steering and braking at any time, and actively intervene if the situation warrants it.

WARNING
Displays and warnings do not relieve you
of your responsibility. System limits can mean that warnings or system responses are not issued or are issued too late, incorrectly or for no reason. There is a risk of an accident. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conditions. Observe the traffic situation and intervene actively if the situation warrants it

2024 BMW 2 Series-Sensors-fig 11Warning light flashes grey: a warning is issued actively. The system does not carry out any steering interventions.

Warning function

When leaving the driving lane
If the vehicle leaves the driving lane and a lane boundary is detected, the steering wheel vibrates depending on the steering wheel vibration setting.
If the turn indicator is switched on in the corre-sponding direction before changing lanes, no warning is issued.

Steering intervention
Depending on the equipment and national-market version: if a lane boundary is crossed in the speed range up to 210 km/h, approx. 130 mph, the system may respond with a brief active steering intervention in addition to the steering wheel vibration. The steering intervention helps to keep the vehicle in the driv-ing lane. Steering intervention can be felt at the steering wheel and can be overridden man-ually at any time. With active steering intervention, the display flashes in the instrument cluster.
For example, steering intervention is sup-pressed in the following situations:

  • If the vehicle is accelerating rapidly or braking heavily.
  • On indicating.
  • If the hazard warning lights are switched on.
  • In driving situations with high driving dynamics.
  • When Dynamic Stability Control regulates the driving stability.
  • Directly after a steering intervention by the vehicle systems.
  • When actively weaving back to your lane after overtaking.

Warning signal
Depending on the equipment, if the system performs an active steering intervention multiple times within 3 minutes without the driver touching the steering wheel, an acoustic warning is emitted. A short warning signal sounds on the second steering intervention. A longer warning signal sounds from the third steering intervention onwards.
A Check Control message is also displayed.
The warning signal and Check Control mes-sage urge the driver to pay more attention to the driving lane.

In trailer operation
There is no steering intervention when the trailer socket is occupied or when the trailer operation is activated, for example when operating with a trailer or bicycle carrier.

Cancellation of the warning
The warning is cancelled in situations such as the following:

  • Automatically after a few seconds.
  • On returning to the correct lane.
  • If the vehicle is accelerating rapidly or braking heavily.
  • If the hazard warning lights are switched on.
  • On indicating.
  • When Dynamic Stability Control regulates the driving stability.
  • While Dynamic Stability Control is disabled.
  • Directly after a steering intervention by the vehicle systems.
  • With manual steering intervention.
  • Possibly when another driver assistance system is activated.
  • Lane boundaries are not detected.
  • When the system limits are reached.

Lane Change Warning

Principle
Lane Change Warning detects vehicles in the blind spot, or if vehicles are approaching from behind in the adjacent lane.
The warning light in the exterior mirror warns the driver in different stages.

General2024 BMW 2 Series-Sensors-fig 12
The system is operational after a minimum speed has been reached and uses radar sensors to monitor the area behind and adjacent to the vehicle.
The minimum speed is country-specific and is displayed in the menu for the Intelligent Safety Systems.
The system indicates when vehicles are in the blind spot, arrow 1, or are approaching from the rear in an adjacent lane, arrow 2. The warning light in the exterior mirror is illuminated at a dimmed level. In the above situations, the system issues a warning before a lane change with the turn indicator activated. The warning light in the exterior mirror flashes and the steering wheel vibrates.
