Display

Fuel level indicator

Principle

• The current filling level of the fuel tank is displayed.

General

• The vehicle inclination may cause the display to fluctuate.

Full Black Panel Display:

• An arrow next to the fuel pump symbol indicates the vehicle side on which the fuel filler flap is located.
• The current range is displayed as a numerical value.

Instrument cluster without extended functionality:

Revolution counter

General

• It is vital to avoid rotational speeds in the red warning zone. In this zone, the fuel supply is interrupted to protect the engine.
• Depending on vehicle equipment, the revolution counter can also be shown on the Headup Display.

If the setting for the drive mode view is activated, the activated revolution counter is only shown in the COMFORT or SPORT drive mode.

To display the revolution counter on the Headup display, enable the Sport displays on the Head-up display.

Reduced speed range

• The available speed range may be reduced due to certain factors, for example, a cold drivetrain.
• The revolution counter display is automatically adjusted depending on the available speed range.

Full Black Panel Display: Power display

Principle

• The power display shows the available drive power as a percentage.

Activating/deactivating

If the setting for the drive mode view is activated, the activated power display is only shown in the COMFORT drive mode.

Display

• Pointer in the area of arrow 1: the display of the energy recuperation achieved when rolling to a stop or or when decelerating CHARGE.
• Needle in the area of arrow 2: drive power as a percentage, POWER.

Drive power

• The available drive power may be reduced due to certain factors, for example, a cold engine.
• The range for POWER is adjusted automatically depending on the available drive power.
• Icons in the power display indicate if the drive power has been reduced.

Example icon / Description

• Reduced drive power due to cold drivetrain.
• Reduced drive power due to overheated drivetrain.

Standby state and drive-ready state

Full Black Panel Display:

• OFF is shown in the instrument cluster. The drive-ready state is switched off and standby state is switched on.
• READY is shown in the instrument cluster. The Automatic Start/Stop function is ready for an automatic engine start.

Engine temperature

Display

Full Black Panel Display:

• Cold engine: the needle is located in the low-temperature range. Drive at moderate to rotational speed and vehicle speed.
• Normal operating temperature: the needle is in the middle or the bottom half of the temperature display.
• Hot engine: the needle is located in the high-temperature range. A Check Control message is also displayed.

Instrument cluster without extended functionality:

• Coolant level.

Outside temperature

General

• If the display drops to +3 ℃/+37 ℉ or lower, a signal sounds.
• A Check Control message is shown.
• There is an increased risk of black ice.

Safety information

WARNING

Even at temperatures above +3 ℃, 37 ℉ there may be an increased risk of black ice, for example on bridges or on shaded sections of road. There is a risk of an accident. At low temperatures, adjust your driving style to the weather conditions.

Range

Principle

The range shows what distance can still be covered with the amount of fuel currently in the tank.

General

• The estimated range available with the remaining fuel is displayed in the instrument cluster.
• A Check Control message is displayed briefly if the remaining range is low. A small remaining range means that the engine functions are not always ensured if a sporty driving style is employed, e.g. when cornering fast.
• If the range drops below approximately 50 km, 30 miles the Check Control message is displayed continuously.

Safety information

NOTICE

If the range drops below 50 km, approx. 30 miles, the engine may no longer be supplied with sufficient fuel. The engine functions are no longer ensured. There is a risk of material damage. Refuel in good time.

• The current range is displayed as a number next to the fuel level indicator.

Instrument cluster without extended functionality:

Service notification

Principle

• Service notifications indicate necessary maintenance work.

General

• After switching on the drive-ready state, the next service appointment or the distance remaining until your next servicing is displayed briefly on the instrument cluster.
• Maintenance work can be read out from the vehicle key by a service advisor.
• Some information on service notifications can also be shown on the BMW display vehicle key.

Detailed information on service notification

More detailed information can be displayed on the control display.

vehicle data.

• Green: maintenance has been carried out on time.

Optimum shift indicator

Principle

• The optimum shift indicator recommends the gear that best suits the current driving situation.
• The use of the optimal gear supports an efficient driving style.

General

• Depending on the equipment and the national market version, the optimum shift indicator is active in M manual mode of the Steptronic transmission.

Steptronic transmission: displays

• Information on up or downshifting is displayed in the instrument cluster.
• For vehicles without optimum shift indicator, the gear engaged is shown.

Example / Description

• The most efficient gear is engaged.
• Shift to a more efficient gear.

Selection lists

Principle

The instrument cluster or the Head-up display can show lists for certain functions and can be used for operation where applicable.

• Entertainment source.
• Current audio source.
• Recent calls list.

If applicable, the relevant menu is opened on the control display.

Display

• Depending on the equipment, the list in the instrument cluster may differ from the figure.

Displaying and using the list

• The lists can be displayed and operated using the buttons on the steering wheel.

Button / Function

• Changing the entertainment source.
  • Press the button again to close the list currently displayed.
• To display the list of the last calls.
• Turn the knurled wheel to select the desired setting.
  • Press the knurled wheel to confirm the setting.
  • The list of the current entertainment source can be displayed in the instrument cluster again by turning the knurled wheel.

Trip data

Principle

• The display of trip data provides various information about the trip, e.g. the trip distance.

General

• The trip data can be shown on the control display and in the instrument cluster.
• The values can be displayed and reset according to different intervals; for example, after refuelling.

Display on the control display

Overview

Depending on the set interval and drive mode, the following information is displayed:

• Set interval for displaying the trip data.
• Average fuel consumption as a function of the set interval.
• Average speed.
• Total time engine is switched off by the Automatic Start/Stop function.
• The distance covered in the coasting driving condition.
• Consumption history as a graph.

Consumption history

• The consumption history shows the average consumption in a graph as a function of the route covered and the drive mode.

Display in the instrument cluster

Depending on the equipment, information on the distance covered can be displayed as a widget in the instrument cluster.
The following information is displayed:

• Total distance driven
• Set interval for displaying the trip data.
• Distance covered, depending on the set interval.
• Average speed.

Select and configure widgets in the instrument cluster.

Configuring the trip data display

The intervals for displaying the trip data in the instrument cluster and on the control display can be configured.

5. Select the desired setting:
   • “Start of journey ( )”: the values are reset automatically if the vehicle is at a standstill for approximately four hours.
   • “Refuelling ( )”: the values are reset automatically after refuelling with a significant amount of fuel.
   • “Factory”: Average consumption since factory delivery. The values since leaving the factory are displayed.
   • “Individual ( )”: the values since the last manual reset are displayed. The values can be reset at any time.

Resetting average values manually

The following interval can be reset manually at any time: “Individual ( )”.
Via the button on the turn indicator lever:

1. Press the button on the turn indicator lever repeatedly until the widget for the trip data is selected.
2. Press and hold the button on the turn indicator lever.

Via iDrive:

1. “CAR”
2. “Driving information”

4. “Values since”
5. “Reset individual”

The average values and counters are reset.
Once the average values and counters have been reset, the following interval is automatically set: “Individual ( )”.

Sport displays

Principle

• The sport displays primarily assist a sporty driving style.
• Display on the control display

Overview

The following information is displayed:

• Charging pressure.
• Engine oil temperature.
• G-Meter.
• Torque.
• Power.

Principle

Adjusting the brightness

The brightness adapts automatically to the ambient brightness.
The default setting can be adjusted manually.

7. Press the Controller.

     • “In SPORT mode”: the sport displays are only shown in the SPORT drive mode.
     • “Always”: the sport displays are permanently shown in the Head-up display.
   • “Reduced height”: if not all the information is within the driver’s field of view, the information can be displayed in the lower part of the Head-up display.

Visibility of the display

The visibility of the information shown on the Head-up display can be affected by the following:

• Seat position.
• Objects on the protective glass of the head-up display.
• Dust or dirt on the protective glass of the head-up display.
• Dirt on the inside or outside of the windscreen.
• Sunglasses with certain polarisation filters.
• Wet roads.
• Adverse lighting conditions.

If the image is distorted, have the default settings checked by an authorised Service Partner or another qualified Service Partner or a specialist workshop.

Special windscreen

• The windscreen is an integral part of the system.
• The shape and coating of the special windscreen enable the system to function.
• In the event of damage, have the special windscreen replaced by an authorised Service Partner or another qualified Service Partner or a specialist workshop.
