The BMW X5 is an upscale midsize SUV that has a lot of space, can be used in many different ways, and has high-tech features. The 2020 BMW X5 has a lot of new features and improvements over the model it replaced.
The BMW X5 has a bold front grille, LED headlights, and curved body lines that give it a sleek and stylish look. It has a strong impact on the road thanks to its large size and high-end design details.
The 2020 BMW X5 usually came with a choice of powerful engines under the hood. The eight-speed automatic gearbox that went with these engines made gear changes smooth and quick. The X5 was equipped with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, which gave it better grip and stability, especially in bad weather or on rough ground.

The BMW X5’s cabin was a luxury and comfortable place to be. The inside was made with high-quality materials, was well-made, and had the latest technology. Depending on the trim level and options picked, the X5 could have had things like a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone integration, a panoramic sunroof, premium music systems, and advanced driver-assistance systems.

The indicator light in the instrument cluster

The yellow indicator light illuminates, once the fuel reserve is reached.

Tachometer

Always avoid engine speeds in the red warning field. In this range, the fuel supply is reduced to protect the engine.

Shift point indicator

Concept
The shift lights indicate the upshift point at which the best possible acceleration can be achieved.

Functional requirement
Shift lights are shown when the SPORT or SPORT PLUS driving program is activated.

Switching on/off

  1. Select SPORT or SPORT PLUS driving mode.
    Press Driving Dynamics Control.
  2. Activate the M manual mode of the transmission.

Display

  • The current engine speed is displayed in the tachometer.
  • Arrow 1: successive yellow illuminated fields indicate an increase in the speed.
  • Arrow 2: successive orange illuminated fields indicate the upcoming shift moment.
  • Arrow 3: the field lights up red. Do not wait for any further to shift.

When the maximum speed is reached, the entire display flashes red and the supply of fuel is interrupted in order to protect the engine.

Standby state and drive-ready state
The letters OFF in the tachometer indicate that the drive-ready state is switched off and the standby state is switched on. The letters READY in the tachometer indicate that the Auto Start/Stop function is ready to start the engine automatically.   • Cold engine: the pointer is at the low-temperature end. Drive at the moderate engine and vehicle speeds.
  • Normal operating temperature: the pointer is in the middle or in the lower half of the temperature display.
  • Hot engine: the pointer is at the high end of the temperature range. In addition, a Check Control message is displayed.

The indicator light in the instrument cluster
A red indicator light is displayed.

General information
If the indicator drops to +37 ℉/+3 ℃ or lower, a signal sounds. A Check Control message is displayed. There is an increased risk of ice on roads.

Safety information

Warning
Even at temperatures above +37 ℉/+3 ℃there can be a risk of icy roads, for instance on bridges or shady sections of the road. There is a risk of an accident. Modify your driving style to the weather conditions at low temperatures.

Concept
The range indicates the distance that can still be covered with the current fuel level.

NOTICE
With a driving range of fewer than 30 miles/50 km, the engine may no longer have sufficient fuel. Engine functions are not ensured anymore. There is a risk of damage to property. Refuel promptly.

Concept
The function displays the service notifications and the corresponding maintenance scopes.

Detailed information on service notifications
More information on the type of service required may be displayed on the Control Display.

  2. “Vehicle status”
  3. “Service schedule” Maintenance and service measures and legally mandated inspections are displayed.
  4. Select an entry to call up detailed information.

Entering appointment dates
Enter the dates for the mandatory vehicle inspection. Make sure that the vehicle’s date and time are set correctly.

  6. Select the desired setting.

Concept
The system recommends the most efficient gear for the current driving situation.

General information
Depending on the design and country version, the gear shift indicator may be active in the M manual mode of the Steptronic transmission.

Steptronic transmission: displaying
Suggestions to shift up or down are displayed in the instrument cluster. On vehicles without a gear shift indicator, the engaged gear is displayed.

Adjusting
Via iDrive:

  1. “CAR”
  2. “Settings”
  3. “Driver Assistance”
  4. If necessary, “Driving”
  5. “Speed Limit Assistance”
  6. Select the desired setting:
    • “Warn when speeding”: activate/deactivate the flashing of the Speed Limit Info display in the instrument cluster and, where applicable, the Head-up Display when the currently valid speed limit is exceeded. The warning that is issued when a speed limit is exceeded may depend on the Speed Limit Assist settings.
    • “Excess speed display”: the speed limit that is detected by the Speed Limit Info is displayed with a marking in the speedometer in the instrument cluster.

System limits
The system may not be fully functional and may provide incorrect information in the following situations:

  • In heavy fog, wet conditions, or snowfall.
  • When traffic signs are fully or partially concealed by objects, stickers, or paint.
  • When driving very close to the vehicle in front of you.
  • When driving toward bright lights or strong reflections.
  • When the windshield in front of the interior mirror is fogged over, dirty, or covered by a sticker, etc.
  • If the camera has overheated and been temporarily switched off due to excessively high temperatures.
  • In the event of incorrect detection by the camera.
  • If the speed limits or road data stored in the navigation system are incorrect.
  • If the speed limits vary with the time of day and the day of the week.
  • In areas not covered by the navigation system.
  • When roads differ from the navigation, such as due to changes in road routing.
  • In the case of electronic traffic signs.
  • When passing buses or trucks with traffic signs applied to them.
  • If the traffic signs are non-conforming.
  • When traffic signs that are valid for a parallel road are detected.
  • In the presence of country-specific signs and road configurations.
  • During the calibration of the camera immediately after vehicle delivery.

Concept
Lists can be displayed and, if necessary, used for certain functions in the instrument cluster or the Head-up Display.

  • Entertainment source.
  • Current audio source.
  • List of most recent telephone calls.

If necessary, the corresponding menu will open on the Control Display.

Display
Depending on the equipment version, the list in the instrument cluster may differ from the illustration.

Consumption history
The average consumption is shown in the consumption history in form of a chart based on the distance traveled and the driving mode.

Display in the instrument cluster
Information about the route can be displayed as a widget in the tachometer. Selecting and setting widgets in the instrument cluster. Further information: For widgets in the instrument cluster, refer to page 154.
The following information is displayed:

  • Total mileage.
  • The configured interval for displaying trip data.
  • Distance traveled depends on the configured interval.
    Average speed.
