Lighting controls

Main lighting
The various front and rear lamps of the vehicle are designed to adapt the lighting progressively in relation to the climatic conditions and so ensure the best visibility for the driver:

  • side lamps, to be seen,
  • dipped beam headlamps to see without dazzling other drivers,
  • main beam headlamps to see clearly when the road is clear.

Additional lighting
Other lamps are provided to fulfill the requirements of particular driving conditions:

  • a rear foglamp to be seen from a distance,
  • front foglamps for even better visibility,
  • daytime running lamps to be seen during the day.

Stalk for switching headlamp beam
Pull the stalk to switch the lighting between dipped/main beam headlamps. In the lighting off and side lamps modes, the driver can switch on the main beam headlamps temporarily (“headlamp flash”) by maintaining a pull on the stalk.

Displays
The illumination of the corresponding indicator lamp in the instrument panel confirms the lighting is switched on.

Front and rear foglamps
Foglamps selection ring. The foglamps operate with the side lamps and dipped and main beam headlamps.

Front and rear fog lamps.

  • To switch on the front foglamps, turn the ring forwards once.
  • To switch on the rear foglamp, turn the ring forward twice.
  • To switch off the rear foglamp, turn the ring rearwards twice.
  • To switch off the front foglamps, turn the ring rearwards once.
  • The ring returns to its initial position automatically.
  • The rear foglamp is switched off automatically when you switch off the side lamps or the dipped or main beam headlamps.

Caution

  • In good or rainy weather, both day and night, the front foglamps and the rear foglamp are prohibited. In these situations, the power of its beam may dazzle other drivers.
  • Do not forget to switch off the front foglamps and the rear foglamp when they are no longer necessary.

Lighting on reminder: There is an audible signal when the driver’s door is opened, to warn the driver if the vehicle lighting is on, with the ignition off. Switching off the lighting stops the audible signal.

Direction indicators

  • Left: lower the lighting stalk, passing the point of resistance.
  • Right: raise the lighting stalk, passing the point of resistance.

Daytime running lamps

  • Special daytime lighting so that the vehicle can be seen more easily.
  • The daytime running lamps come on automatically when starting the motor if no other lighting is on.
  • They cannot be deactivated.

Tip: Although these lamps are located in the same unit as the front foglamp, they operate with a specific bulb. Their use is covered by road vehicle lighting regulations.

Automatic illumination of headlamps

Automatic illumination of headlamps
With the main lighting control ring in the AUTO position, the side lamps and dipped beam headlamps come on automatically, without any action by the driver, when a low level of ambient light is detected. When the light returns to a sufficient level or the wipers are switched off, the lighting is switched off automatically. The sensor is located at the base of the windscreen.

Tip: In foggy weather or in snow, the sunshine sensor may detect sufficient light. The lighting will not come on automatically.
Do not cover the sunshine sensor, the associated functions will no longer be controlled.

Automatic lighting off
When the lighting stalk is in the “AUTO” position, if the ignition switch is in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position or if the key has been removed, the lighting switches off automatically when the driver’s door is opened.

Headlamp adjustment
To avoid causing a nuisance to other road users, the height of the halogen headlamps should be adjusted according to the load in the vehicle.

  1. Driver only or driver + 1 front passenger.
  2. 4 people (including the driver).
  3. 4 people (including the driver) + maximum authorized load.
  4. Driver + maximum authorized load.

Wiper control
The wipers are controlled directly by the driver by means of the stalk A and its ring B.

Tip: In wintry conditions, remove snow, ice, or frost present on the windscreen, around the wiper arms and blades, and the windscreen seal, before operating the wipers.

Caution: Do not operate the wipers on a dry windscreen. Under extremely hot or cold conditions, ensure that the wiper blades are not stuck to the windscreen before operating the wipers.

  1. Position 1 “ON”
The courtesy lamp is permanently on.
  2. Position 2 “●”
The courtesy lamp comes on when opening a door or the boot; when the door or boot is closed again, the lighting gradually dims for a few seconds before going off. However, the courtesy lamp is switched off immediately when the doors and boot are closed and you lock the vehicle from the inside or use the remote control.
  3. Position 3 “OFF”
The courtesy lamp is permanently off.

Caution

  • Before leaving the vehicle, ensure that the courtesy lamp is not on.
  • If left on, it discharges the 12 V battery, even if the main battery is charged or on charge.
  • Starting your vehicle will then no longer be possible.

General safety recommendations

  • Labels are applied at various points on your vehicle. They carry safety warnings as well as vehicle identification information. Do not remove them: they form an integral part of your vehicle.
  • For any work on your vehicle, use a qualified workshop that has the technical information, skills, and equipment required, all of which a CITROËN dealer is able to provide.

We draw your attention to the following points:

  • The fitting of electrical equipment or accessories not listed by CITROËN may cause excessive current consumption and faults and failures with the electrical system of your vehicle. Contact a CITROËN dealer for information on the range of recommended accessories.
  • As a safety measure, access to the diagnostic socket, used for the vehicle’s electronic systems, is reserved strictly for CITROËN dealers or qualified workshops, equipped with the special tools required (risk of malfunctions of the vehicle’s electronic systems that could cause breakdowns or serious accidents). The manufacturer cannot be held responsible if this advice is not followed.
  • Any modification or adaptation not intended or authorized by Automobiles CITROËN or carried out without meeting the technical requirements defined by the manufacturer would lead to the suspension of the legal and contractual warranties.

Installation of accessory radio communication transmitters

  • Before installing a radio communication transmitter, you must contact a CITROËN dealer for the specification of transmitters that can be fitted (frequency, maximum power, aerial position, specific installation requirements), in line with the Vehicle Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2004/104/EC).
  • Depending on the legislation in force in the country, certain safety equipment may be compulsory: high visibility safety vests, warning triangles, breathalyzers, spare bulbs, spare fuses, fire extinguishers, first aid kit, mud flaps at the rear of the vehicle.

Hazard warning lamps
Visual warning with all of the direction indicators flashing to alert other road users to a vehicle breakdown, towing, or accident. Press this button, and all of the direction indicators flash. They can operate with the ignition off.

Automatic operation of brake lamps

  • The brake lamps come on automatically when you release the accelerator pedal.
  • This does not happen in all cases and depends on the rate of deceleration.

Emergency or assistance call

  • In an emergency, press this button for more than 2 seconds. A flashing of the green indicator lamp and a voice message confirm that the call has been made to the “Localised Emergency Call”* center.
  • Pressing this button again immediately cancels the call.
  • The green indicator lamp goes off.
  • The green indicator lamp remains on (without flashing) when communication is established. It goes off at the end of the call.
Localized Emergency Call immediately locates your vehicle, makes contact with you in your language**, and – if necessary – organizes sending of the appropriate emergency services**. In countries where the service is not operational, or if the locating service has been expressly declined, the call is directed straight to the emergency services (112) without location.
  • If an impact is detected by the airbag control unit, and independently of the deployment of any airbags, an emergency call is made automatically.
  • If you benefit from the CITROËN Connect Box offer with the SOS and assistance pack included, there are additional services available to you in your personal space, via your country’s website.
