Climate Control Functions

A/C (Air Conditioning)
The Air Conditioning (A/C) button allows the operator to manually activate or deactivate the air conditioning system. When the air conditioning system is turned on, cool dehumidified air will flow through the outlets into the cabin. For improved fuel economy, press the A/C button to turn off the air conditioning and manually adjust the blower and airflow mode settings. Also, make sure to select only Panel, Bi-Level, or Floor modes.

NOTE:

  • For Manual Climate Controls, if the system is in Mix, Floor or Defrost Mode, the A/C can be turned off, but the A/C system shall remain active to prevent fogging of the windows.
  • If fog or mist appears on the windshield or side glass, select Defrost mode, and increase the blower speed if needed.
  • If your air conditioning performance seems lower than expected, check the front of the A/C condenser (located in front of the radiator), for an accumulation of dirt or insects. Clean with a gentle water spray from the front of the radiator and through the condenser.

MAX A/C
MAX A/C sets the control for maximum cooling performance. Press and release to toggle between MAX A/C and the prior settings. The button illuminates when MAX A/C is on. In MAX A/C, the blower level and mode position can be adjusted to desired user settings. Pressing other settings will cause the MAX A/C operation to switch to the selected setting and MAX A/C to exit.

Recirculation
In cold weather, the use of Recirculation mode may lead to excessive window fogging. The Recirculation feature may be unavailable (the button on the touchscreen greyed out) if conditions exist that could create fogging on the inside of the windshield. On systems with Manual Climate Controls, if equipped, the Recirculation mode is not allowed in Defrost mode to improve the window-clearing operation. Recirculation is disabled automatically if this mode is selected. Attempting to use Recirculation while in this mode causes the LED in the control button to blink and then turn off.

Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) — If Equipped

Automatic Operation

  1. Push the AUTO button on the faceplate, or the AUTO button on the touchscreen on the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) Panel.
  2. Next, adjust the temperature you would like the system to maintain by adjusting the driver and passenger temperature control buttons. Once the desired temperature is displayed, the system will achieve and automatically maintain that comfort level.
  3. When the system is set up for your comfort level, it is not necessary to change the settings. You will experience the greatest efficiency by simply allowing the system to function automatically.

NOTE:

  • It is not necessary to move the temperature settings for cold or hot vehicles. The system automatically adjusts the temperature, mode, and blower speed to provide comfort as quickly as possible.
  • The temperature can be displayed in U.S. or Metric units by selecting the U.S./Metric customer programmable feature. To provide you with maximum comfort in the Automatic mode during cold start-ups, the blower fan will remain on low until the engine warms up. The blower will increase in speed and transition into AUTO mode.

VEHICLE MODIFICATIONS/ALTERATIONS

WARNING!
Any modifications or alterations to this vehicle could seriously affect its roadworthiness and safety and may lead to a collision resulting in serious injury or death.

Key Fobs

Your vehicle uses a keyless ignition system. This system consists of a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) key fob and a Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) with integral ignition. You can insert the key fob into the ignition switch with either side up. It also contains an emergency key, which stores in the rear of the key fob.

NOTE:

The key fob may not be found if it is located next to a mobile phone, laptop, or another electronic device; these devices may block the key fob’s wireless signal. The emergency key allows for entry into the vehicle should the battery in the vehicle or the key fob become depleted. You can keep the emergency key with you when valet parking. To remove the emergency key, slide the mechanical latch at the top of the key fob sideways with your thumb and then pull the key out with your other hand.

NOTE:

When using the emergency key to gain access to your vehicle, be aware that the security alarm may be triggered. Insert the key into the ignition and place the ignition in the ON/RUN position to disarm the security system.

To Unlock The Doors And Liftgate
Push and release the unlock button on the key fob once to unlock the doors. Push and release the unlock button a second time within five seconds to unlock the liftgate. The turn signal lights will flash to acknowledge the unlock signal.

  • Do not replace coin battery unless the instrument cluster display shows the message “Key Fob Low Battery”.
  • Do not touch the battery terminals that are on the back housing or the printed circuit board.

How To Use Remote Start

All of the following conditions must be met before the engine will remote start:

  • Gear selector in PARK
  • Doors closed
  • Hood closed
  • Liftgate closed
  • Hazard switch off
  • The brake switch is inactive (brake pedal not pushed)
  • Battery at an acceptable charge level
  • The system not disabled from the previous remote start event
  • Vehicle security alarm not active
  • Ignition in OFF position
  • The malfunction Indicator Light is not illuminated

WARNING!

  • Do not start or run an engine in a closed garage or confined area. Exhaust gas contains Carbon Monoxide (CO) which is odorless and colorless. Carbon Monoxide is poisonous and can cause serious injury or death when inhaled.
  • Keep key fobs away from children. Operation of the Remote Start System, windows, door locks or other controls could cause serious injury or death.

Manual Operation Override
This system offers a full complement of manual override features. The AUTO symbol in the front ATC display will be turned off when the system is being used in manual mode.

Operating Tips
NOTE:
Refer to the chart at the end of this section for suggested control settings for various weather conditions.

Summer Operation
The engine cooling system must be protected with a high-quality antifreeze coolant to provide proper corrosion protection and to protect against engine overheating. OAT coolant (conforming to MS.90032) is recommended. Refer to “Fluids And Lubricants” in “Technical Specifications” for proper coolant selection.

Winter Operation
To ensure the best possible heater and defroster performance, make sure the engine the cooling system is functioning properly and the proper amount, type, and concentration of coolant is used. Refer to “Fluids And Lubricants” in “Technical Specifications” for proper coolant selection. Use of the air Recirculation mode during Winter months is not recommended, because it may cause window fogging.

Vacation/Storage
Before you store your vehicle or keep it out of service (i.e., on vacation) for two weeks or more, run the air conditioning system at idle for about five minutes, in the fresh air with the blower setting on high. This will ensure an adequate system lubrication to minimize the possibility of compressor damage when the system is started again.

NOTE:

  • If an engine fault is present or fuel level is low, the vehicle will start and then shut down in 10 seconds.
  • The park lamps will turn on and remain on during Remote Start mode.
  • For security, power window operation is disabled when the vehicle is in the Remote Start mode.
  • The engine can be started two consecutive times (two 15-minute cycles) with the key fob. However, the ignition must be placed in the ON/RUN position before you can repeat the start sequence for a third cycle.

To Exit Remote Start Mode Without Driving The Vehicle Push and release the Remote Start button one time or allow the remote start cycle to complete the entire 15-minute cycle.

NOTE:

To avoid unintentional shutdowns, the system will disable for two seconds after receiving a valid Remote Start request.
