2022 FORD EcoSport Wipers and Lighting Operation

In 2022, the wipers and lights on the FORD EcoSport were updated in a way that showed the company’s drive to making driving safer and more visible. Knowing how important these parts are to the overall driving experience, the 2022 EcoSport made smart changes that set it apart from other cars in its class. The windshield wiper system had high-tech sensors that could tell how hard it was raining and instantly change the speed of the wipers to give the best visibility without the driver having to do anything. Along with this, the lighting system was carefully redesigned to use LED technology for the headlights, taillights, and internal lighting. This not only made the lights better and brighter, but it also helped the car use less energy overall. By making these careful changes, the 2022 FORD EcoSport wanted to give drivers more clarity, safety, and convenience. It showed how committed FORD is to both technological innovation and designing for the driver.

Wipers and Lighting

WINDSHIELD WIPERS

Push the lever up or down to operate the windshield wiper.

• A Single wipe.
• B Intermittent wipe.
• C Normal wipe.
• D High-speed wipe.

Note: Fully defrost the windshield before you switch the windshield wipers on.
Note: Make sure that you switch the windshield wipers off before entering a car wash.
Note: If streaks or smears appear on the windshield, clean the windshield and the wiper blades. If that does not resolve the issue, install new wiper blades.
Note: Do not operate the wipers on a dry windshield. This may scratch the glass, damage the wiper blades or cause the wiper motor to burn out. Always use the windshield washers before wiping a dry windshield.

Intermittent Wipe

• A Shortest wipe interval.
• B Intermittent wipe.
• C Longest wipe interval.

Use the rotary control to adjust the intermittent wipe interval.

Speed Dependent Wipers
When your vehicle speed increases, the interval between wipes decreases.

AUTOWIPERS

• Auto wipers uses a rain sensor in the area around the interior mirror. The wipers operate when the rain sensor detects water on the windshield in front of it. The rain sensor continues to monitor the amount of water and adjusts the speed of the wipers.
• You can switch autowipers on or off in the information display.

Note
If you switch auto wipers off in the information display, the windshield wipers operate in intermittent mode.

• A High sensitivity.
• B Auto wipers on.
• C Low sensitivity.

Move the wiper lever upward to the first position to switch auto wipers on.
Use the rotary control to adjust the sensitivity of the auto wipers. When you select low sensitivity, the wipers operate when the sensor detects a large amount of water on the windshield. When you select high sensitivity, the wipers operate when the sensor detects a small amount of water on the windshield.

Note
Keep the outside of the windshield clean. The rain sensor is very sensitive and the wipers may operate if dirt, mist or insects hit the windshield.
If you leave auto wipers on, it may not operate when you switch the ignition on during freezing temperatures. This is because the system has deactivated the rain sensor to prevent damage to the windshield wipers. Defrost the windshield before reactivating the rain sensor. You can reactivate the rain sensor by moving the rotary control or switching auto wipers off and on.

Note
Fully defrost the windshield before you switch the windshield wipers on.

Note
Make sure that you switch the windshield wipers off before entering a car wash.
Wet or winter weather conditions could cause unexpected wiping or smearing.

To keep the windshield clear:

• Lower the sensitivity of the auto wipers to reduce the amount of smearing on the windshield.
• Switch auto wipers off.

Note: If streaks or smears appear on the windshield, clean the windshield and the wiper blades. If that does not resolve the issue, install new wiper blades.

Setting
To switch auto wipers on or off, use the information display controls on the steering wheel to select the following:

WINDSHIELD WASHERS

Pull the lever toward you to operate the windshield washers. When you release the lever, the wipers operate for a short time. A courtesy wipe occurs a short time after the wipers stop to clear any remaining washer fluid.
You can switch courtesy wipe on or off in the information display.

Note
Do not operate the washers when the washer reservoir is empty. This could cause the washer pump to overheat.

Heated Washer Jets 
The system heats the washer jets when the heated windshield is on.

Settings
To switch courtesy wipe on or off, use the information display controls on the steering wheel to select the following:

Wipers	Press the OK button.
Courtesy Wipe	Press the OK button.

REAR WINDOW WIPER AND WASHERS

Rear Window Wiper

• • A Intermittent wipe.
  • B Continuous wipe.
  • C Rear window wiper off.

The rear window wiper also turns on when you shift into reverse and the windshield wipers are on.
You can switch reverse wipe off in the information display.

Note
Make sure that you switch the rear window wiper off before entering a car wash.

Settings
To switch reverse wipe on or off, use the information display controls on the steering wheel to select the following:

Menu Item	Action

Vehicle Settings	Press the OK button.
Wipers	Press the OK button.
Reverse Wiper	Press the OK button.

Rear Window Washer

Push the lever away from you to operate the rear window washer. When you release the lever, the wiper operates for a short time.
Do not operate the washers when the washer reservoir is empty. This could cause the washer pump to overheat.

Lighting

GENERAL INFORMATION
Condensation in the Exterior Front Lamps and Rear Lamps

• Exterior front lamps and rear lamps have vents to accommodate normal changes in air pressure.
• Condensation can be a natural by-product of this design. When moist air enters the lamp assembly through the vents, there is a possibility that condensation can occur when the temperature is cold. When normal condensation occurs, a fine mist can form on the interior of the lens. The fine mist eventually clears and exits through the vents during normal operation.
• Clearing time may take as long as 48 hours under dry weather conditions.

Examples of acceptable condensation are

• The presence of a fine mist (no streaks, drip marks or large droplets).
• A fine mist covers less than 50% of the lens.

Examples of unacceptable condensation are:

• A water puddle inside the lamp.
• Streaks, drip marks or large droplets present on the interior of the lens.

If you see any unacceptable condensation, have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer.

LIGHTING CONTROL

• A Off.
• B Parking lamps, instrument panel lamps, license plate lamps and tail lamps.
• C Headlamps.

Note: Prolonged use of the parking lamps causes the battery to run out of charge.
Note: Parking lamps may turn off automatically. This prevents the vehicle battery from running out of charge.

Parking Lamps
Switch the ignition off.

Both Sides
Select position B on the lighting control to switch the parking lamps on.

High Beams Push the lever forward to switch the high beams on.

Push the lever forward again or pull the lever toward you to switch the high beams off.

Headlamp Flasher

Pull the lever toward you slightly and release it to flash the headlamps.

AUTOLAMPS

WARNING

• The system does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with due care and attention. You may need to override the system if it does not turn the headlamps on in low visibility conditions, for example daytime fog.
• When the lighting control is in the auto lamps position, the headlamps automatically turn on in low light situations or when the wipers activate.

If equipped, the following also activate when the lighting control is in the autolamps position and you switch them on in the information display:

• Configurable daytime running lamps.

Note: If you have auto lamps switched on you can only switch the high beam headlamps on once the system has turned the headlamps on.

Windshield Wiper Activated Headlamps 
When the headlamp switch is in the Autolamps position, the windshield wiper activated exterior lamps will turn on within 10 seconds when you switch the windshield wipers on. They turn off approximately 60 seconds after you switch the windshield wipers off.
This feature does not turn on the exterior lamps:

• During a single wipe.
• While the wipers are on to clear washer fluid during a wash condition.

Note: If you have auto lamps and auto wipers switched on the low beam headlamps will turn on automatically when the windshield wipers operate continuously.

Auto lamps Delay 
When the Auto lamps have the headlamps and position/park lamps turned on, and the ignition is turned OFF, the headlamps and position/park lamps will remain on for an additional 20 seconds (the auto lamp exit delay) or until the Auto lamps are disabled.
You can change the delay period in the information display.

INSTRUMENT LIGHTING DIMMER

Press it repeatedly or press it and hold it until the desired level is reached.

Note
If you disconnect the battery or it loses charge the instrument lighting will return to its brightest setting.

HEADLAMP EXIT DELAY
After you switch the ignition off, you can switch the headlamps on by pulling the direction indicator lever toward you. You will hear a short tone. The headlamps will switch off automatically after three minutes with any door open or 30 seconds after the last door has been closed. You can cancel this feature by pulling the direction indicator toward you again or switching the ignition on.

DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS

WARNING
The daytime running lamps system does not activate the rear lamps and may not provide adequate lighting during low visibility driving conditions. Make sure you switch the headlamps on, as appropriate, during all low visibility conditions. Failure to do so may result in a crash.

Type 1 – Conventional
The daytime running lamps turn on when:

1. You switch the ignition on.
2. The transmission is not in park (P) for vehicles with automatic transmissions or the parking brake is released for vehicles with manual transmissions.
3. The lighting control is in the off, parking lamp or auto lamps lighting control sensor must be detecting daylight positions.

Type 2 – Configurable
You can switch this feature on or off in the information display. 
The daytime running lamps turn on when:

1. You switch them on in the information display.
2. You switch the ignition on.
3. The transmission is not in park (P) for vehicles with automatic transmissions or the parking brake is released for vehicles with manual transmissions.
4. The lighting control is in the auto lamps position.
5. The lighting control sensor detects daylight, and the headlamps or parking lamps are off.

The other lighting control switch positions do not activate the daytime running lamps, and you can use them to temporarily override auto lamp control.
When you switch them off in the information display, the daytime running lamps are off in all lighting control switch positions.

FOG LAMPS 

Press the control to switch the fog lamps on or off.
You can switch the fog lamps on when the lighting control is in any position except off.
Note: Only use fog lamps during reduced visibility, for example, fog, snow or heavy rain.
Note: If you switch auto amps on, you can only switch the fog lamps on once auto lamps has turned the headlamps on.

DIRECTION INDICATORS

Push the lever up or down to use the direction indicators.

Note: Tap the lever up or down to make the direction indicators flash three times.

INTERIOR LAMPS

Courtesy Lamp

• A Off
• B Door contact
• C On

If you set the switch to position B, the courtesy lamp will come on when you unlock or open a door or the luggage compartment lid. If you leave a door open with the ignition switch off, the courtesy lamp will go off automatically after some time to prevent the vehicle battery from discharging. To switch it back on, switch on the ignition for a short time.
The courtesy lamp will also come on when you switch off the ignition. It will go off automatically after a short time or when you start or restart the engine.
If you set the switch to position C with the ignition switch off, the courtesy lamp will come on. It will go off automatically after a short time to prevent the vehicle battery from discharging. To switch it back on, switch on the ignition for a short time.

Reading Lamps

Press the buttons to switch the reading lamps on and off.

Vanity Lamp

Position the visor downward. Press the button to switch the vanity lamp on and off.

AMBIENT LIGHTING
Adjust the ambient lighting using the touchscreen.
