2023 GMC Terrain Instrument Panel

The 2023 GMC Terrain’s instrument panel was carefully thought out to give drivers full and easy-to-understand power over their driving experience. With its location in the line of sight of the driver, the panel includes many important features and signs that make driving smooth and safe. The digital screen in the middle shows important data like the speed of the vehicle, the amount of fuel left, and guidance instructions. It gives you real-time updates that are necessary for safe and efficient driving. The panel also has warning lights that quickly let drivers know about the health of the engine and the pressure of the tires, among other things. This way, drivers are quickly aware of any problems that might arise. GMC has put functionality and ease of use first by making the controls and setup easy to use. This lets drivers stay focused on the road while easily getting to important information. The 2023 GMC Terrain’s instrument panel is a good example of a commitment to driver-centered design. It combines technology and functionality to make the driving experience better.

  1. Air Vents Use the louvers located on the air vents to change the direction of the airflow. To open or close off the airflow:
    1. On the center air vents, move the slider knobs up or down.
    2. On the outer and rear air vents, move the slider knobs right or left.
      Operation Tips
      1. Clear away any ice, snow, or leaves from air inlets at the base of the windshield that could block the flow of air into the vehicle.
      2. Clear snow off the hood to improve visibility and help decrease moisture drawn into the vehicle, which may improve long-term system performance.
      3. Keep the path under the front seats clear of objects to help circulate the air inside the vehicle more effectively.
      4. The use of non-GM-approved hood deflectors can adversely affect the performance of the system. Check with your dealer before adding equipment to the outside of the vehicle.
      5. Do not attach any devices to the air vent slats. This restricts airflow and may cause damage to the air vents.
  2. Turn Signal Lever. Move the lever all the way up or down to
signal a turn. An arrow on the instrument cluster flashes in the direction of the turn or lane change. Raise or lower the lever until the arrow starts to flash to signal a lane change. Hold it there until the lane change is completed. If the lever is briefly pressed and released, the turn signal flashes three times. The turn and lane change signal can be turned off manually by moving the lever back to its original position. If after signaling a turn or lane change, the arrow flashes rapidly or does not come on, a signal bulb may be burned out.
  3. Instrument Cluster The DIC displays are shown in the center of the instrument cluster in the Info App. See Instrument Cluster (Base and Midlevel) 0 88 or Instrument Cluster (Uplevel) 0 91 or Instrument Cluster (Denali Only) 0 93. The displays show the status of many vehicle systems.
  4. Windshield Wiper/Washer. The windshield wiper/washer lever is on the side of the steering column. With the ignition on or in accessory mode, move the windshield wiper lever to select the wiper
    speed.

  6. Light Sensor. When the exterior lamp control is set to AUTO and it is dark enough outside, the headlamps come on automatically There is a light sensor on top of the instrument panel. Do not cover the sensor; otherwise, the headlamps will come on when they are not needed. The system may also turn on the headlamps when driving through a parking garage or tunnel. When it is bright enough outside, the headlamps will turn off or may change to Daytime Running Lamps (DRL). The automatic headlamp system turns off when the exterior lamp control is turned to O or the ignition is off.
  7. Hazard Warning Flashers Press to make the front and rear turn signal lamps flash on and off. This warns others that you are having trouble. Press | again to turn the flashers off
  8. Climate Control Systems With this system the heating, cooling, and ventilation in the vehicle can be controlled
  9. Shift Switches. The shift switches are on the center stack. The selected gear position will illuminate red on the shift switch, while all others will be displayed in white. If the shift is not immediate, as in very cold conditions, the indicator on the shift switch may blink until it is fully engaged. The transmission does not operate when the vehicle is off. If the vehicle is in accessory mode, the transmission can be shifted into P (Park). If ENGINE START/STOP is pressed twice while at a relatively high speed, the engine will turn off and the transmission will automatically shift to N (Neutral). Once the vehicle is stopped, P (Park) can be selected. P: This position locks the drive wheels. Use P (Park) when starting the vehicle to ensure the vehicle does not move.
  10. Power Outlets The vehicle has two 12-volt accessory power
outlets, which can be used to plug in electrical equipment, such as a cell phone or MP3 player.
    There are power outlets:
    1. On the center stack below the climate control system.
    2. In the rear cargo area. To use the outlet, remove the cover.
  11. Assistance Systems for Parking or Backing If equipped, the Rear Vision Camera (RVC), Surround Vision, Rear Park Assist (RPA), Front and Rear Park Assist (FRPA), Automatic Parking Assist (APA), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) may help the driver park or avoid objects. Always check around the vehicle when parking or backing.
  12. Heated and Ventilated Front Seats If equipped, the buttons are on the center console. To operate, the engine must be running. Press I or +, if equipped, to heat the driver or passenger seatback only. Press J or Z to heat the driver or passenger cushion and seatback. Press C or {, if equipped, to ventilate the driver or passenger seat. A ventilated seat has a fan that pulls air through the cushion and seatback. The air is not cooled. Press the button once for the highest setting. With each press of the button, the seat will change to the next lower setting, and then to the off setting. The indicator lights next to the buttons indicate three for the highest setting and one for the lowest. If the heated seats are on high, the level may automatically be lowered after approximately 30 minutes.
  13. Wireless Charging If equipped and enabled, the vehicle has a wireless charging pocket outside the armrest of the center console. The system operates at 145 kHz and wirelessly charges one Qi-compatible smartphone. The power output of the system is capable of charging at a rate of up to 3 amp (15 W), as requested by the compatible smartphone. See Radio Frequency Statement.
  14. Driver Mode Control Depending on the option package and available features, the Driver Mode Control can have the following modes: Tour (Front-Wheel Drive (FWD)), All-Wheel Drive (AWD), Snow/Ice, Off-Road, and Tow/Haul. Rotate the Driver Mode Control knob on the center console to make a mode selection. Continue turning the knob through the available modes. Upon selection of a mode, the selected mode’s icon will light up on the knob and a message will be displayed in the Driver Information Center (DIC).
  15. Lane Keep Assist (LKA) If equipped, LKA may help avoid crashes due to unintentional lane departures. This system uses a camera to detect lane markings. The LKA system can be ready to assist at speeds between approximately 60 km/h (37 mph) and 180 km/h (112 mph). On some vehicles, the system will instead operate above 50 km/h (31 mph). LKA may assist by gently turning the steering wheel if the vehicle approaches a detected lane marking. It may also provide a Lane Departure Warning (LDW) alert if the vehicle crosses a detected lane marking. This system is not intended to keep the vehicle centered in the lane. LKA will not assist and alert if the turn signal is active in the direction of lane departure, or if it detects that you are accelerating, braking or actively steering. LKA can be overridden by turning the steering wheel. If the system detects you are steering intentionally across a lane marker, the LDW will not be given. Do not expect the LDW to occur when you are intentionally crossing a lane marker. Hill Descent Control (HDC) 0 217 (If Equipped).
  16. USB Port Audio stored on a USB device may be listened to. Depending on your vehicle, it may be equipped with two USB ports in the center console under the armrest and another two on the center stack. These ports are for data and charging. There may also be two USB ports at the rear of the center console and a USB port on each side of the third-row seats for charging only.
  17. ENGINE START/STOP Button. The vehicle has an electronic keyless ignition with a pushbutton start. The remote key must be in the vehicle for the system to operate. If the pushbutton start is not working, the vehicle may be near a strong radio antenna signal causing interference to the Keyless Access system. See Remote Key Operation 0.

  21. Hood Release. Clear any snow from the hood before opening. To open the hood:
    1. Pull the hood release lever with the symbol. It is on the lower left side of the instrument panel.
    2. Go to the front of the vehicle and locate the secondary release lever under the front center of the hood. Push the secondary hood release lever to the right to release.
  22. Cruise Control The cruise control lets the vehicle maintain a speed of about 40 km/h (25 mph) or more without keeping your foot on the accelerator. Cruise control does not work at speeds below 40 km/h (25 mph) With the Traction Control System (TCS) or StabiliTrak/Electronic Stability Control (ESC), the system may begin to limit wheel spin while you are using cruise control. If this happens, the cruise control will automatically disengage. See Traction Control/Electronic Stability Control 0 214. If a collision alert occurs when cruise control is activated, cruise control is disengaged. See Forward Collision Alert (FCA) System 0 240. When road conditions allow you to safely use it again, cruise control can be turned back on. Cruise control will disengage if either TCS or StabiliTrak/ESC is turned off. If Hill Descent Control (HDC) is engaged, cruise control disengages. See Hill Descent Control (HDC) 0 217. If the brakes are applied, the cruise control disengages. Adaptive Cruise Control (Camera) 0 223 (If Equipped). Heated Steering Wheel 0 81 (If Equipped). Forward Collision Alert (FCA) System 0 240 (If Equipped).
  23. Data Link Connector (DLC) (Out of View). This light is part of the vehicle’s emission control onboard diagnostic system. If this light is on while the engine is running, a malfunction has been detected and the vehicle may require service. The light should come on to show that it is working when the ignition is in Service Mode. See Ignition Positions 0.
  24. Electric Parking Brake The Electric Parking Brake (EPB) can always be applied, even if the vehicle is off. In case of insufficient electrical power, the EPB cannot be applied or released. To prevent draining the battery, avoid unnecessary repeated cycles of the EPB. The system has a red parking brake status light and an amber service parking brake warning light. See Electric Parking Brake Light 0 103 and Service Electric Parking Brake Light 0 103. There are also parking brake-related Driver Information Center (DIC) messages. Before leaving the vehicle, check the red parking brake status light to ensure that the parking brake is applied.
  25. Exterior Lamp Controls The exterior lamp control is left of the steering wheel The exterior lamp control is on the left stalk. There are four positions. O: Turns the exterior lamps off and deactivates the AUTO mode. Turn to O again to reactivate the AUTO mode. For vehicles first sold in Canada, the headlamps will automatically reactivate when the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park).
AUTO: Turns the exterior lamps on and off automatically depending on outside lighting. Turns on all lamps, except the headlamps. Turns on the headlamps together with the parking lamps and instrument panel lights.
