2009-2021 Harley Davidson Dyna Fuses and Fuse Box Guidelines
The fuses and fuse box system in the 2009–2021 Harley-Davidson Dyna series were the quiet guardians of electrical integrity and rider safety. They showed how committed the brand was to quality and dependability. These parts were very important for keeping the motorcycle’s electrical circuits safe, stopping overloads, and making sure that important functions like lights, ignition, and extra accessories worked smoothly. The fuse box, which was usually placed in a smart spot inside the motorbike, held a variety of carefully designed fuses that protected against electrical faults and surges. Harley-Davidson engineers kept improving this system to meet riders’ changing needs. They added new fuse technologies and made it easier to get to parts for repair. If riders were riding their motorbikes on sunny highways or in the darkest nights, the Dyna series’ fuses and fuse boxes gave them peace of mind that their bikes would work reliably and safely, letting them enjoy the freedom of the open road to the fullest.

Fuses
See Figure 50. The fuse block is under the motorcycle’s left side cover, behind the electrical panel cover. The block contains replaceable fuses.
NOTE
See Figure 50. Spare fuses are inserted into slots 7 and 8 in the fuse block. Automotive-type ATO fuses are used for replacements.
Fuse Replacement
- Place the ignition/headlamp key switch in the OFF position.
- Gently pull left side cover from the frame. (No tools are required for this step.)
- See Figure 50. Remove the fuse and inspect the element.
Always use replacement fuses that are of the correct type and amperage rating. Use of incorrect fuses can result in damage to electrical systems. (00222a - Align studs in side cover with grommets in the frame and firmly push the side cover into place.

Replacing the Main Fuse
See Figure 51. All Dyna models have a main fuse to protect the motorcycle wiring. This 40-amp main fuse provides main battery power to the motorcycle. It is located in the fuse holder behind the motorcycle’s left side cover.
- Gently pull left side cover from the frame. (No tools are required for this step.)
- Grasp and pull the main fuse straight out of the fuse holder.
- Insert the prongs of the new main fuse in the fuse holder slots.
- Align studs in side cover with grommets in the frame and firmly push the side cover into place.

FAQs
Fuses are safety devices that protect your Dyna’s electrical circuits from overloads and short circuits.
The fuse compartment is typically located under the left side cover on the majority of Dyna models.
To gain access to the fuse box, remove the left side cover by releasing its fasteners or screws.
Fuses prevent the passage of excessive current through the electrical system, which could result in damage or fires.
If a fuse blows, a replacement fuse with the same amperage rating must be installed.
Inspect visually the detonator. The fuse is detonated if the metal strip inside is broken or has a gap.
Consult the owner’s manual or the label on the fuse box to determine the correct amperage ratings.
No, it is necessary to replace a ruptured fuse with another fuse of the same amperage rating in order to maintain the integrity of the electrical system.
Using a fuse with an incorrect amperage rating can result in damage to the electrical system or even a fire. Always utilize the specified fuse.
Using a fuse puller or needle-nose pliers, carefully remove the ruptured fuse from its socket.
Yes, standard automotive blade-type fuses are commonly available and suitable for Harley Davidson Dyna motorcycles.
Some models may include spare fuses in the toolkit, but it’s always a good idea to keep replacements on hand.
If a fuse continues blowing, it could indicate an electrical problem. It is recommended to have a professional mechanic inspect your motorcycle.
It is not recommended to operate a vehicle with a ruptured fuse, as it may impair vital electrical functions. Replace the fuse prior to travel.
To prevent problems, routinely inspect your fuses and electrical system for evidence of wear or damage. Additionally, ensure that all accessories are correctly wired to prevent overloads.
