INDICATOR LAMPS
See Figure 7. Five indicator lamps are provided.
- The green TURN indicators will flash when turn signals are activated; therefore, flashing indicates the chosen turn direction. When the 4-way hazard flashers are operating, both turn indicators will flash simultaneously.
- The blue BEAM indicator lamp, when lit, signals high beam headlamp operation.
- The green NEUTRAL lamp, when lit, signals the transmission is in neutral gear.
- The red OIL indicator lamp, when lit, signals that oil is not circulating through the engine.
NOTE
The OIL indicator lamp will glow when the ignition is turned on prior to starting engine. With engine running, lamp should be off when engine speed is above idle.
Several other circumstances that could cause the red oil indicator lamp to signal, include the following
- If the oil pressure indicator lamp does not go off at speeds above idling, it is usually because of an empty oil tank or diluted oil.
- In freezing weather the oil feed may clog with ice and sludge, preventing oil circulation.
- A grounded oil signal switch wire.
- A faulty signal switch.
- A damaged or improperly installed check valve.
- Trouble with the pump.
If the oil pressure indicator lamp remains lit, always check the oil supply first. If the oil supply is normal and the lamp is still lit, stop the engine at once and do not ride further until the trouble is located and the necessary repairs are made. Failure to do so may result in engine damage.(00157a).

FAQs
Your Dyna’s indicator lamps provide vital information about the motorcycle’s state and system conditions.
The number of indicator lamps varies significantly depending on the model and year, but there are usually six major indicator lamps: high beam, neutral, oil pressure, turn signals (left and right), and engine management.
The High Beam indicator is often represented by a blue headlight icon. It illuminates when your high beam headlights are turned on.
The Neutral indication lamp, frequently portrayed as a “N,” illuminates when your motorcycle is in neutral, indicating that the engine is safe to start.
When there is low oil pressure, the Oil Pressure indicator, which is frequently portrayed as an oil can symbol, illuminates. This alerts you to probable engine problems.
There are two turn signal indication lamps, one on each side, that flash when their respective turn signals are activated.
Rapid flashing turn signal indications typically suggest a burned-out bulb or an issue with the turn signal system. You should check the bulbs and wiring for your turn signals.
The Engine Management indication lamp, which is sometimes portrayed as an engine symbol, is a warning light that can signal a variety of problems with the engine or emissions control system. It necessitates prompt attention.
Before you may reset the Engine Management indicator, you must first diagnose and address the underlying problem. When the issue has been rectified, the light should turn off on its own.
Riding with the Oil Pressure indicator illuminated is dangerous since it indicates low oil pressure, which can cause engine damage. Stop the engine immediately and investigate the problem.
A defective sensor or wiring could be to blame if the Neutral indicator fails to glow when in neutral. For troubleshooting, see your owner’s manual or a Harley-Davidson specialist.
You can still use your turn signals if the indicator lamps are out of commission, but you should have them repaired so that other drivers can see your intentions.
Indicator lamps typically use widely available standard bulbs. For precise bulb types and replacement instructions, refer to your owner’s manual.
Replacing a burned-out warning lamp bulb normally entails gaining access to the bulb socket, removing the old bulb, and replacing it. For more information, consult your owner’s handbook.
If the High Beam indicator remains illuminated at all times, this could suggest a problem with the high beam switch or wiring. A Harley Davidson specialist should evaluate and correct this problem.
