SEAT
Removal of Solo Seat (Spring mount)
- See Figure 99. Remove seat.
- Remove acorn nuts (9) and washers (8).
- Remove the acorn nut (3).
- Remove the pivot bolt (2).
- Remove seat (1).
- If necessary: Remove seat fairing.
- Remove flange nuts (7) and washers (6).
- Remove seat fairing (4).
Solo Seat
- See Figure 100. Remove seat.
- Remove seat nuts (1).
- See Figure 102 and Figure 103. Raise rear of seat. Pull seat rearward to disengage the tongue from the slot in the seat.
Two-Up One-Piece Seat NOTE The seat screw may be difficult to access if the Tour-Pak is in the forward position. If necessary, see TOUR-PAK (Page 138) to temporarily move the Tour-Pak.
- Open Tour-Pak lid.
- Open one of the saddlebag lids.
- See Figure 101. Remove the screw to release the seat strap from the bracket.
- Remove the screw to release the seat from the top of the rear fender. NOTE Cover the seat mount mounting bracket with the palm of your hand to prevent damage to Tour-Pak.
- See Figure 102 and Figure 103. Raise the rear of the seat. Pull the seat rearward to disengage the tongue from the slot in the seat.
Installation Solo Seat (Spring mount)
- See Figure 99. If removed, install seat fairing.
- Install washers (6) and flange nuts (7).
- Tighten. Torque: 60–96 in-lbs (6.8–10.8 N·m) Seat fairing flange nuts
- Install seat.
- Place seat (1) on motorcycle.
- Install front pivot bolt (2).
- Install acorn nut (3). Tighten. Torque: 48–84 in-lbs (5.4–9.5 N·m) Seat bracket assembly acorn nut
- Rotate top spring plate so the upper studs (5) are offset to the rear.
- Align bracket with studs and install washers (8) and acorn nuts (9). Tighten. Torque: 60–96 in-lbs (6.8–10.8 N·m) Seat suspension acorn nuts
Solo Seat
- See Figure 100. Install seat.
- See Figure 102 and Figure 103. Align seat slot with tongue behind the fuel tank. Push the seat forward to engage seat.
- Install seat nuts (1).
- Pull up on seat to verify that it is secure.
Two-Up One-Piece Seat NOTE Cover the seat mount mounting bracket with palm of your hand to prevent damage to Tour-Pak.
- See Figure 102 and Figure 103. Align seat slot with tongue behind the fuel tank. Push seat forward to engage the seat.
- See Figure 101. Secure seat bracket to rear fender with screw. Tighten. Torque: 48–72 in-lbs (5.4–8.1 N·m) Seat bracket screw
- Pull up on seat to check that it is properly secured.
- See Figure 101. Insert strap in slot on seat strap bracket.
- Install screw and washer. Tighten. Torque: 48–72 in-lbs (5.4–8.1 N·m) Seat strap bracket
- Close the saddlebag lid.
- Close Tour-Pak lid.
NOTE Install Tour-Pak back in desired position if removed. See TOUR-PAK (Page 138).

SEAT SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENT NOTE Use a drift and hammer or SPANNER WRENCH (PART NUMBER: HD-94820-75A) to loosen and tighten nuts.
- See Figure 104. Loosen jamnut (1). NOTE
- Range of adjustment (3) must be kept within 0.7–1.1 in (17.7–27.7 mm) as measured from the top of the shock absorber to the top of the jamnut. Settings outside this range may result in failure of the suspension components.
- Factory preset is approximately 0.9 in (21.7 mm) which is suitable for a 200 lb (90.7 kg) person.
- Rotate adjustment nut (2) clockwise to compensate for a heavier rider. Each full rotation adjusts for approximately 12.5 lb (5.7 kg) rider weight.
- Tighten jamnut. NOTE Seat bracket bumpers provide cushioning under certain riding conditions. If seat system is modified ride comfort may be affected.
