Fixing a blown fuse: 2020 Hyundai Sonata Fuse Diagram Guide
If you need to quickly and effectively fix a blown fuse in your 2020 Hyundai Sonata, you must first understand the fuse schematics. The fuse diagram is like a road map; it shows exactly where each fuse is located and how much power it can handle for each electrical part of the car. This picture guide, which can be found in the owner’s guidebook or on the fuse box cover, makes it easy for car owners to find the broken fuse. After getting this information, the process includes turning off the car safely, finding the right fuse box, using the fuse diagram to find the bad fuse, replacing it with a new one of the right amperage, and then testing the connected part to make sure it works. This quick and well-informed method not only makes replacing fuses easier, but it also gives car owners the tools they need to fix small electrical problems on their own, which is good for both convenience and independence.

FUSES
A vehicle’s electrical system is protected from electrical overload damage by fuses.
This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, the other in the engine compartment near the battery.
If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will be melted or broken.
If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Before replacing a blown fuse, turn the engine and all switches off, and then disconnect the negative battery cable. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating.
If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem.
Avoid using the system involved and immediately consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
NEVER replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.
- A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly cause a fire.
- Do not install a wire or aluminum foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and possibly a fire.
NOTICE
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system.
Instrument Panel Fuse Replacement
- Turn the engine off.
- Turn all other switches OFF.
- Open the fuse panel cover.
- Refer to the label on the inside of the fuse panel cover to locate the suspected fuse location.
-
Pull the suspected fuse straight out. Use the removal tool provided in the engine compartment fuse panel.
-
Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. Spare fuses are provided in the instrument panel fuse panels (or in the engine compartment fuse panel).
-
Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. In an emergency, if you do not have a spare fuse, use a fuse of the same rating from a circuit you may not need for operating the vehicle.
If the headlamps or other electrical components do not work and the fuses are undamaged, check the fuse panel in the engine compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced with the same rating.
Engine Compartment Panel Fuse Replacement
- Turn the engine off.
- Turn all other switches OFF.
- Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tap and pulling up.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert the fuse, use the fuse puller in the engine compartment fuse panel.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
CAUTION
After checking the fuse box in the engine compartment securely close the fuse box cover inside the engine compartment, until it clicks.
If the fuse box is not closed properly, water may leak in side, possibly causing a malfunction with the electrical system.
Multi fuse (Main fuse)
If the multi fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows
- Turn off the engine.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tab and pulling it up.
- Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
Information
If the multi fuse is blown, consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

FAQs
A fuse is a type of safety device used to guard against overcurrent in electrical circuits. It is made up of a metal strip or wire that melts when an excessive amount of electricity passes through it, stopping the circuit and avoiding damage.
A 2020 Hyundai Sonata’s fuse box is usually either inside the cabin or in the engine compartment. For precise location information, consult your owner’s handbook.
A visual inspection is frequently sufficient to identify a blown fuse. The fuse’s metal strip will either melt or break. A multimeter can also be used to verify continuity throughout the fuse.
To remove the blown fuse, you might require a fuse puller or a pair of needle-nose pliers. For improved vision, having a flashlight is also beneficial.
No, it’s crucial to utilize the appropriate fuse type and amperage for your car. The electrical system may sustain additional harm if the incorrect fuse is used.
A fuse’s amperage rating is usually indicated in the owner’s manual or printed on the fuse itself. It is crucial to swap out a blown fuse for one with the same amperage.
You can temporarily use a fuse with a slightly higher rating if you don’t have an extra fuse with the same amperage. But it’s crucial to swap it out as soon as you can for the appropriate amperage fuse
.Replacing a fuse with a higher amperage rating is not advised as this may cause the electrical system to be damaged or maybe cause a fire danger.
Grab the fuse and carefully pull it out of the fuse box using a fuse puller or a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Just slide the new fuse into the fuse box’s slot, being careful to seat it firmly.
If the new fuse blows right away, there might be an electrical short circuit or another problem.
Depending on how the circuit that the blown fuse protected operates. In the event that it’s a non-essential part, driving your car might be possible in the interim. But it’s advisable to change the fuse as soon as you can.
Consult the fuse diagram on the fuse box cover or the one in your owner’s handbook.
Fuses typically don’t need to be changed very often; they only need to be changed when an electrical system malfunction causes them to blow.
Hyundai dealerships or the majority of auto parts stores carry replacement fuses. Ensure that the kind and amperage rating you purchase are appropriate for your car.
