A vehicle’s electrical system is protected from electrical overload damage by fuses. This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, and the other in the motor compartment near the battery. If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will be melted or broken. If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Before replacing a blown fuse, turn the vehicle and all switch-es off, and then disconnect the negative battery cable. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating. If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the system involved and immediately consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Information
Three kinds of fuses are used: blade type for lower amperage ratings, cartridge type, and multi fuse for higher amperage ratings.
WARNING
NEVER replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.
- A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly cause a fire.
- Do not install a wire or aluminum foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and possibly a fire.
NOTICE
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system.

LIGHT BULBS
Consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to replace most vehicle light bulbs. It is difficult to replace vehicle light bulbs because other parts of the vehicle must be removed before you can get to the bulb. This is especially true for removing the headlamp assembly to get to the bulb(s). Removing/installing the headlamp assembly can result in damage to the vehicle.
Information
After heavy driving, rain, or washing, lamps could appear frosty. This condition is caused by the temperature difference between the lamp inside and the outside temperature. This is similar to the condensation on your windows inside your vehicle during the rain and doesn’t indicate a problem with your vehicle. If the water leaks into the lamp bulb circuitry, have your vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
- Before replacing a lamp, depress the foot brake, shift to P (Park), apply the parking brake, place the POWER button in the OFF position, and take the key with you when leaving the vehicle to avoid sudden movement of the vehicle and to prevent possible electric shock.
- Be aware the bulbs may be hot and may burn your fingers.
Information
- A normally functioning lamp may flicker momentarily to stabilize the vehicle’s electrical control system. However, if the lamp goes out after flickering momentarily, or continues to flicker, we recommend the system be checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- The position lamp may not turn on when the position lamp switch is turned on, but the position lamp and headlamp switch may turn on when the headlamp switch is turned on. This may be caused by network failure or vehicle electrical control system malfunction. If this occurs, we recommend the system be checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
How to Change Hyundai Ioniq Electric Fuses
FAQs
Fuses are designed to protect electrical circuits from damage due to excessive current flow. They act as a safety mechanism by breaking the circuit when an overload occurs.
The fuse box in the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric is typically located in the interior of the vehicle, often near the driver’s sidekick panel or under the dashboard.
You can usually access the fuse box by opening the driver’s side door and locating the removable panel on the side of the dashboard or kick panel. It may require using a screwdriver or simply pulling it off depending on the design.
Typically, you’ll only need your hands to replace a fuse. However, if a fuse is difficult to remove, you may need a pair of needle-nose pliers.
You can visually inspect the fuse to see if the metal strip inside is intact or broken. Alternatively, you can use a multimeter to test for continuity.
The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric commonly uses blade-style fuses, also known as spade or plug-in fuses.
The fuse diagram is often located on the inside of the fuse box cover or in the owner’s manual.
The amperage ratings for the fuses can vary depending on the specific electrical component they protect. Common ratings include 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A, and 30A.
It’s not recommended to use a fuse with a higher amperage rating as it can lead to electrical damage or even fire hazards. Always replace fuses with the same amperage rating as the original.
If you’ve checked all the fuses and none appear to be blown, the issue may lie elsewhere in the electrical system. Consult a professional mechanic or electrician for further diagnosis.
Some vehicles may come with spare fuses stored inside the fuse box or in a compartment within the vehicle.
It’s essential to replace fuses with the same type and amperage rating to ensure proper protection of the electrical circuit. Using a different type of fuse can lead to malfunction or damage.
Common electrical components protected by fuses include headlights, taillights, power windows, radio, air conditioning systems, and various other accessories.
It’s a good idea to periodically check the fuses, especially if you notice any electrical issues with your vehicle. Additionally, it’s a good practice to inspect them when performing routine maintenance.
Before replacing fuses, it’s essential to disconnect the vehicle’s battery to prevent electrical shocks or damage. Additionally, always ensure that the replacement fuse matches the amperage rating of the original fuse.
