Fuse
Fuses Guide 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV fuses and fuses box diagram (1)

A vehicle’s electrical system is protected from electrical overload damage by fuses.
This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, the other in the motor compartment near the battery.

If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will be melted or broken.
If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Before replacing a blown fuse, turn the vehicle and all switch-es off, and then disconnect the negative battery cable. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rat-ing.
If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the system involved and immediately consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Information
Three kinds of fuses are used: blade type for lower amperage rating, cartridge type, and multi fuse for higher amperage ratings.

WARNING
NEVER replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.

  • A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly cause a fire.
  • Do not install a wire or aluminium foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and possibly a fire.

NOTICE
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system.

Instrument Panel Fuse Replacement

Fuses Guide 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV fuses and fuses box diagram (2)

  1. Turn the vehicle off.
  2. Turn all other switches OFF.
  3. Open the fuse panel cover.
  4. Refer to the label on the inside of the fuse panel cover to locate the suspected fuse location.Fuses Guide 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV fuses and fuses box diagram (3)
  5. Pull the suspected fuse straight out. Use the removal tool provided in the motor compartment fuse panel.
  6. Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. Spare fuses are provided in the instrument panel fuse panels (or in the motor compartment fuse panel).
  7. Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

In an emergency, if you do not have a spare fuse, use a fuse of the same rating from a circuit you may not need for operating the vehicle.
If the headlamps or other electrical components do not work and the fuses are OK, check the fuse panel in the motor compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced with the same rating.

Fuse switch

Fuses Guide 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV fuses and fuses box diagram (4)

Always, place the fuse switch to the ON position.
If you move the switch to the OFF position, some items such as the audio system and digital clock must be reset and the smart key may not work properly.

Information

Fuses Guide 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV fuses and fuses box diagram (5)

If the fuse switch is OFF, the above message will appear.

NOTICE

  • Always place the fuse switch in the ON position while driving the vehicle.
  • Do not move the fuse switch repeatedly. The fuse switch may be damaged.

Motor Compartment Panel Fuse Replacement

Fuses Guide 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV fuses and fuses box diagram (6)

  1. Turn the vehicle off.
  2. Turn all other switches OFF.
  3. Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tap and pulling up.
  4. Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert the fuse, use the fuse puller in the motor compartment fuse panel.
  5. Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

CAUTION
After checking the fuse box in the motor compartment secure-ly close the fuse box cover inside the motor compartment, until it clicks.
If the fuse box is not closed properly, water may leak inside, possibly causing a malfunction with the electrical system.

Multi fuse

Fuses Guide 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV fuses and fuses box diagram (7)

If the multi fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows:

  1. Turn the vehicle off.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tab and pulling it up.
  4. Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
  5. Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
  6. Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.

Information
If the multi fuse is blown, consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

FAQs

Where is the fuse box located in a 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV?

The 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV’s fuse box is normally found on the driver’s side of the engine compartment.

What are fuses used for in a Hyundai Ioniq EV car?

Fuses are used to guard against overcurrent damage to electrical circuits. In the event of a power surge, they break the circuit as a safety precaution.

How do I know if a fuse is blown in my Hyundai Ioniq EV?

The metal strip inside the fuse can be visually inspected to determine whether it is damaged or complete. The fuse gets blown if it is broken.

What should I do if a fuse is blown in my Hyundai Ioniq EV?

Replace the blown fuse with one that has the same amperage rating.

What size fuses does the 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV use?

Standard-sized blade fuses are normally used in the 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV.

2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV: What do the different fuse colors signify?

Although fuse colors can differ by manufacturer, they typically indicate the amperage rating. To get exact information, you must consult the owner’s handbook.

How do I access the fuse box in my Hyundai Ioniq EV?

Depending on the model, you might need to unscrew or unlatch the cover in order to access the fuse box in the Hyundai Ioniq EV.

2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV: Can I replace a fuse with a higher amp rating if I don’t have the correct one?

Replacing a fuse with a higher amp rating is not advised because doing so may result in electrical damage or fire hazards.

What should I do if a fuse keeps blowing in my Hyundai Ioniq EV?

A persistently blowing fuse could be a sign of an underlying electrical problem. Have a skilled technician inspect the car.

Where can I find a fuse box diagram for my 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV?

A fuse box diagram is often located in your Hyundai Ioniq EV owner’s manual.

Can I use aftermarket fuses in my Hyundai Ioniq EV?

To guarantee compatibility and safety, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) fuses are advised.

How do I remove a Hyundai Ioniq EV fuse from the fuse box?

Grip the fuse loosely and carefully pull it out of its socket using a fuse puller tool or a pair of needle-nose pliers.

Are there spare fuses included with the Hyundai Ioniq EV?

A spare fuse box or a compartment inside the car may be included with some models. To find out more, consult your owner’s handbook.

What should I do if I can’t find the cause of an electrical issue in my Hyundai Ioniq EV?

It is preferable to get advice from a trained Hyundai technician if you are unable to identify the source of an electrical problem. They have the knowledge and equipment necessary to precisely diagnose and fix the issue.
