2022 Infiniti Q50 Wipers and Washers

WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH
WARNING
In freezing temperatures, the washer solution may freeze on the windshield and obscure your vision which may lead to an accident. Warm the windshield with the defroster before you wash the windshield.
CAUTION
- Do not operate the washer continuously for more than 30 seconds.
- Do not operate the washer if the reservoir tank is empty.
- Do not fill the window washer reservoir tank with washer fluid concentrates at full strength. Some methyl alcohol-based washer fluid concentrates may permanently stain the grille if spilled while filling the window washer reservoir tank.
- Pre-mix washer fluid concentrates with water to the manufacturer’s recommended levels before pouring the fluid into the window washer reservoir tank. Do not use the window washer reservoir tank to mix the washer fluid concentrate and water.
The windshield wiper and washer operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position.
Push the lever down to operate the wiper at the following speed
- AUTO — see “Rain-sensing auto wiper system”.
- LO — continuous low-speed operation
- HI — continuous high-speed operation
- MIST — one sweep operation of the wiper
Pull the lever toward you to operate the washer. Then the wiper will also operate several times.
Pulling up the wiper arm
The wiper arm should be in the up position when replacing the windshield wiper blades.
To replace the windshield wiper blades, follow the procedure below
- When the ignition switch is ON or within 60 seconds after placing the ignition switch from the ON to OFF position, place the windshield wiper and washer lever into the OFF position.
- Rapidly lift the lever upwards twice within 0.5 seconds. This action will cause the wipers to automatically take the service position.
To return the wiper arm, place the wiper arm in the down position and operate the wiper switch once.
CAUTION
Do not operate the windshield wiper while the wiper arm is pulled up. The wiper arm may be damaged.
Wiper drip wipe system
The wiper will also operate once about 3 seconds after the washer and wiper are operated. This operation is to wipe washer fluid that has dripped on the windshield.
RAIN-SENSING AUTO WIPER SYSTEM
The rain-sensing auto wiper system can automatically turn on the wipers and adjust the wiper speed depending on the rainfall and the vehicle speed by using the rain sensor located on the upper part of the windshield.
To set the rain-sensing auto wiper system, push the lever down to the AUTO position
- The wiper will sweep once while the ignition switch is in the ON position.
- The rain sensor sensitivity level can be adjusted by turning the knob toward (High) or toward
- (Low).
- High — High-sensitive operation
- Low — Low sensitive operation
- To turn the rain-sensing auto wiper system off, push up the lever to the OFF position, or pull down the lever to the LO or HI position.
CAUTION
Do not touch the rain sensor and around it when the wiper switch is in the AUTO position and the ignition switch is in the ON position. The wipers may operate unexpectedly and cause to an injury or may damage a wiper.
- The rain-sensing auto wipers are intended for use during rain. If the switch is left in the AUTO position, the wipers may operate unexpectedly when dirt, fingerprints, oil film or insects are stuck on or around the sensor. The wipers may also operate when exhaust gas or moisture affects the rain sensor.
- The rain-sensing auto wipers may not operate if rain does not hit the rain sensor even if it is raining.
- When the windshield glass is coated with water repellent, the speed of the rain-sensing auto wipers may be higher even though the amount of rainfall is small.
- Be sure to turn off the rain-sensing auto wiper system when you use a car wash.
- Using genuine wiper blades is recommended for proper operation of the rain-sensing auto-wiper system. (See “Windshield wiper blades” (P.8-15) for wiper blade replacement.)
FAQs
The windshield wipers can be activated using the stalk located on the right side of the steering column. Adjust the speed to your liking for continuous operation, or raise it for a single cleaning.
High-quality OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) wiper blades are recommended for optimal performance. These are available at Infiniti dealerships and vehicle parts stores.
Wiper blades should be replaced every six to twelve months, or when reduced performance, streaking, or whining is observed.
Adjust the pace of the windshield wipers using the control stalk. Pull it up to increase pace and push it down to decrease speed.
Although aftermarket wiper blades can be used, it is advised to select high-quality ones for optimal performance.
Pull the windshield washer control stalk toward you to activate it. This activates the windshield washer fluid and windshield wipers.
It is best to use a windshield washer fluid that is intended for all seasons and rated for freezing temperatures.
The windshield washer fluid reservoir is located beneath the hood. Simply open the bonnet, locate the reservoir, and fill it with windshield washer fluid to the appropriate level.
Old or deteriorated windshield wipers may cause streaking. Replace the windshield wipers to prevent discoloration.
Although water can be used in an emergency, washer fluid is preferable because it contains cleaning agents that remove filth and grime more effectively.
A professional mechanic should properly align the wiper arms to prevent damage to the wiper linkage.
A loud commotion emanating from the windshield wipers may indicate a problem with the motor or linkage. Have a licensed mechanic examine it.
Some wiper blades allow you to replace the rubber inserts, but it’s often simpler and more effective to replace the entire blade.
Warranty coverage may differ, but wiper blades and routine maintenance are typically not included. Check your warranty’s specific terms for substantiation.
To prevent windshield wipers from freezing, lift them away from the glass when parking in frigid weather or use windshield washer fluid with anti-icing properties.
