2020 Jeep Cherokee Keys and Smart Key Operations

The innovative key and smart key alternatives included in the 2020 Jeep Cherokee’s introduction of a range of cutting-edge features and technologies considerably improved the comfort and security of owning and driving this well-liked SUV. The keys and smart key systems of the 2020 Jeep Cherokee will be discussed in this introduction, with an emphasis on how they changed the driving experience for owners. The traditional key option, which offered a dependable and simple way to access and start the vehicle, was available on the 2020 Jeep Cherokee. This traditional key design supplied a physical key that could be manually used to unlock the doors or put into the ignition. Although it may appear conventional in the age of advanced technology, this choice was dependable and functioned as a good backup. One of the 2020 Jeep Cherokee’s most notable features was its smart key technology, which completely changed how a driver interacts with their car. Owners benefited from a smooth and intelligent process for starting and entering their Cherokee with a smart key.

With the help of the smart key, drivers are now able to unlock their automobile doors by simply walking up to it while holding the key fob. This hands-free convenience was especially helpful when you had a full hand, and it improved security by lowering the possibility that you would forget to lock your car. The smart key also enabled a push-button start system, making it simple to start the engine once inside the vehicle by just pressing a button. The smart key also made it feasible to use the remote start capability. Before getting inside, owners could warm up or chill down the interior of their Cherokee by remote starting it. Extreme weather made good use of this characteristic in particular. The 2020 Jeep Cherokee’s smart key technology incorporated cutting-edge security measures such keyless entry detection and immobilizer systems, which gave car owners piece of mind. In conclusion, the keys and smart key systems for the 2020 Jeep Cherokee represented a considerable improvement in terms of comfort, security, and user experience. The 2020 Cherokee was created to improve every element of car ownership, whether you choose the conventional key or adopt smart key technology. These significant advancements demonstrated Jeep’s dedication to fusing traditional design elements with cutting-edge technology in their automobiles.

SENTRY KEY

The Sentry Key Immobilizer system prevents unauthorized vehicle operation by disabling the engine. The system does not need to be armed or activated. Operation is automatic, regardless of whether the vehicle is locked or unlocked. The system uses a key fob, keyless push button ignition and a Radio Frequency (RF) receiver to prevent unauthorized vehicle operation. Therefore, only key fobs that are programmed to the vehicle can be used to start and operate the vehicle. The system cannot reprogram a key fob obtained from another vehicle.
After turning the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position, the Vehicle Security Light will turn on for three seconds for a bulb check. If the light remains on after the bulb check, it indicates that there is a problem with the electronics. In addition, if the light begins to flash after the bulb check, it indicates that someone attempted to start the engine with an invalid key fob. In the event that a valid key fob is used to start the engine but there is an issue with the vehicle electronics, the engine will start and shut off after two seconds. If the Vehicle Security Light turns on during normal vehicle operation (vehicle running for longer than ten seconds), it indicates that there is a fault in the electronics. Should this occur, have the vehicle serviced as soon as possible by an authorized dealer.

CAUTION
The Sentry Key Immobilizer system is not compatible with some aftermarket Remote Start systems. Use of these systems may result in vehicle starting problems and loss of security protection.

All of the key fobs provided with your new vehicle have been programmed to the vehicle electronics.

KEY PROGRAMMING
Programming key fobs may be performed at an authorized dealer.

REPLACEMENT KEYS

NOTE:
Only key fobs that are programmed to the vehicle electronics can be used to start and operate the vehicle. Once a key fob is programmed to a vehicle, it cannot be programmed to any other vehicle.

CAUTION

  1. Always remove the key fobs from the vehicle and lock all doors when leaving the vehicle unattended.
  2. For vehicles equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go — Ignition, always remember to place the ignition in the OFF position.

NOTE:
Duplication of key fobs may be performed at an authorized dealer. This procedure consists of programming a blank key fob to the vehicle electronics. A blank key fob is one that has never been programmed.
When having the Sentry Key Immobilizer System serviced, bring all vehicle keys with you to an authorized dealer.

IRREGULAR OPERATION
The system uses a key fob, an Ignition Node Module, Keyless Push Button Ignition and a Radio Frequency (RF) receiver to prevent unauthorized vehicle operation. Therefore, only key fobs that are programmed to the vehicle can be used to start and operate the vehicle. The system will not allow the engine to crank if an invalid key fob is used to start and operate the vehicle. The system will shut the engine off in two seconds if an invalid key fob is used to start the engine.

NOTE:
A key fob that has not been programmed is also considered an invalid key.
During normal operation, after placing the keyless ignition in the ON/RUN mode, the Vehicle Security Light will turn on for three seconds for a bulb check. If the light remains on after the bulb check, it indicates that there is a problem with the electronics. In addition, if the light begins to flash after the bulb check, it indicates that someone used an invalid key fob to try to start the engine. Either of these conditions will result in the engine being shut off after two seconds. If the Vehicle Security Light turns on during normal vehicle operation (vehicle running for longer than 10 seconds), it indicates that there is a fault in the electronics. Should this occur, have the vehicle serviced as soon as possible by an authorized dealer.
