2022 Kia Rio Fuses and Fuse Box | Checking and replacing fuses

The 2022 Kia Rio has an internal fuse box that is usually positioned in the interior cabin or engine compartment. It has a variety of fuses that are intended to safeguard and regulate various electrical components in the automobile. In order to preserve delicate electronics and lower the danger of electrical fires, fuses operate as safety devices that interrupt the electrical circuit when an excessive current flows. Every fuse is labeled with its unique function and amperage rating, making it simple to identify and replace in the event that a specific electrical system fails. In order to preserve the correct operation of numerous car systems, including the lights, radio, power windows, and more, and to guarantee the vehicle’s general safety and performance, it is imperative to often check for and replace blown fuses. For exact fuse box locations and information on specific fuse operations for the 2022 Kia Rio, see the owner’s manual or a skilled technician.

  • Left side: Normal,
  • Right side: Blown

A vehicle’s electrical system is pro-tected from electrical overload damage by fuses. This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, the other in the engine compartment near the battery. If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will melt. If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating. If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the system involved and immediately consult an authorized Kia dealer. Three kinds of fuses are used: blade type for lower amperage rating, cartridge type, and multi fuse for higher amperage ratings.

WARNING – Fuse replacement

  • Never replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.
  • A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly a fire.
  • Never install a wire or alu-minum foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and a possible fire.
  • Do not modify or add electric wiring to the vehicle.

CAUTION
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system.

NOTICE

  • When replacing a fuse, turn the ignition “OFF” and turn off the switches of all electrical devices then remove the battery (-) terminal.
  • The actual fuse/relay panel label may differ from the equipped items.

WARNING – Electrical Fire
Always ensure replacement fuses and relays are securely fastened when installed. Failure to do so can result in a vehicle fire.

CAUTION

  • When replacing a blown fuse or relay, make sure the new fuse or relay fits tightly into the clips. Failure to tightly install the fuse or relay may cause damage to the wiring and electric systems.
  • Do not remove fuses, relays and terminals fastened with bolts or nuts. The fuses, relays and terminals may not be fas-tened correctly which may cause vehicle damage.
  • Do not input any other objects except fuses or relays into fuse/relay terminals such as a screwdriver or wiring. It may cause contact failure and sys-tem malfunction.
  • Do not plug in screwdrivers or aftermarket wiring into the ter-minal originally designed for fuse and relays only. The elec-trical system and wiring of the vehicle interior may be dam-aged or burned due to contact failure.
  • If you directly connect the wire on the taillight or replace the bulb which is over the reg-ulated capacity to install trail-ers etc., the inner junction block can get burned.

  1. Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
  2. Open the fuse panel cover.
If the switch is located in the “OFF” position, a caution indicator will be displayed in the cluster.2022-Kia-Rio-Fuses-and-Fuse-Box-Checking-and-replacing-fuses-fig-3
  3. Pull the suspected fuse straight out. Use the removal tool provided on the engine compartment fuse panel cover.
  4. Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown.
  5. Spare fuses are provided in the engine compartment fuse panel.
  6. Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips.

If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer.

If you do not have a spare, use a fuse of the same rating from a circuit you may not need for operating the vehicle, such as the power outlet fuse. If the headlamp, turn signal lamp, stop signal lamp, fog lamp, DRL, tail lamp, and HMSL do not work and the fuses are OK, check the fuse panel in the engine compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced.

NOTICE
If the headlamp, fog lamp, turn signal lamp, or tail lamp malfunctions even without any problem to the lamps, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer for assistance.

CAUTION – Fuse Panel Covers
The contact points of the switches may wear out with excessive use. Please refrain from excessive use of the switches (except for long-term parking for over 1 month).

NOTICE

  • Set all switches to ON before driv-ing.
  • If the vehicle is going to be unused for over 1 month, set all switches to OFF to prevent the batteries from draining.

Memory fuse2022-Kia-Rio-Fuses-and-Fuse-Box-Checking-and-replacing-fuses-fig-4Your vehicle is equipped with a memory fuse to prevent battery discharge if your vehicle is parked without being operated for prolonged periods. Use the following procedures before parking the vehicle for prolonged periods.

  1. Turn off the engine.
  2. Turn off the headlights and tail lights.
  3. Open the driver’s side panel cover and pull up the memory fuse.

If the memory fuse is pulled up from the fuse panel, the warning chime, audio, clock interior lamps, etc., will not operate. Some items must be reset after replacement. Refer to “Battery” in this section. Even though the memory fuse is pulled up, the battery can still be discharged by operation of the headlights or other electrical devices.
