Fuse replacement: 2017 Kia FORTE fuses and fuse Diagram
It’s essential to replace the fuses in the 2017 Kia Forte in order to keep the electrical systems operating as intended. The fuse box, which is often found in easily accessible places like the engine compartment or inside cabin, is filled with fuses meant to safeguard different electrical systems. When a fuse blows, owners can locate the particular circuit that is impacted by using the fuse diagram found in the owner’s manual. Carefully remove the damaged fuse using pliers or a fuse remover, then replace it with a new one that has the appropriate amperage. Owners of Kia Fortes may ensure optimal performance and electrical system integrity by routinely inspecting and changing fuses. This also gives owners the ability to handle electrical issues quickly.

FUSES
A vehicle’s electrical system is protected from electrical overload damage by fuses. This vehicle has 2 fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, others in the engine compartment near the battery. If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will be melted. If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating. Before replacing a blown fuse, move to safe place, turn off the engine and all electric devices, and disconnect the negative battery cable. If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the system involved and we recommend that you consult an authorized Kia dealer. Four kinds of fuses are used: blade type for lower amperage rating, cartridge type, battery fuse terminal and multi fuse type for higher amperage ratings.
WARNING – Fuse replacement
- Never replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.
- A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly a fire.
- Never install a wire or aluminum foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and a possible fire.
CAUTION – Fuse replacement
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system.
Do not arbitrarily modify or add-on electric wiring to the vehicle.
NOTICE
The actual fuse/relay panel label may differ depending on equipment/ options.
WARNING – Electrical Fire
- Always ensure replacements fuses and relays are securely fastened when installed. Failure to do so can result in a vehicle fire.
- We recommend that you do not remove fuses, relays and terminals that are fastened with bolts or nuts. If they are not completely re-installed, such looseness may cause electrical arcing and a possible fire. If fuses, relays and terminals fastened with bolts or nuts need replacement, consult with an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION – Fuse replacement
Do not input any other objects except fuses or relays into fuse/relay terminals such as a driver or wiring. It may cause contact failure and system malfunction.
Instrument panel fuse replacement
- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Open the fuse panel cover.
- Pull the suspected fuse straight out. Use the removal tool provided in the engine compartment fuse panel.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
If you do not have a spare, use a fuse of the same rating from a circuit you may not need for operating the vehicle, such as the cigarette lighter fuse. If the headlights or other electrical components do not work and the fuses are OK, check the fuse panel in the engine compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced.
Fuse switch
Your vehicle is equipped with a fuse switch to prevent battery discharge if your vehicle is parked without being operated for prolonged periods. Use the following procedures before parking the vehicle for prolonged periods.
- Turn off the engine.
- Turn off the headlights and tail lights.
- Open the driver’s side panel cover and move the fuse switch up to the OFF position.
NOTICE
- If the fuse switch is in the OFF position, the warning chime, audio, clock and interior lamps, etc., will not operate. Some items must be reset after replacement. Refer to “Battery” in this chapter.
- Even when the fuse switch is in the OFF position, the battery can still be discharged by operation of the headlights or other electrical devices.
Engine compartment fuse replacement
- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tab and pulling the cover up. When the blade type fuse is disconnected, remove it by using the clip designed for changing fuses located in the engine room fuse box. Upon removal, securely insert reserve fuse of equal quantity.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert the fuse, use the fuse puller in the engine compartment fuse panel.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION – Fuse panel covers
After checking the fuse panel in the engine compartment, securely install the fuse panel cover. If not, electrical failures may occur from water contact.
Main fuse
If the main fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows:
- Turn off the engine.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION
Visually inspect the battery cap to ensure it is securely closed. If the battery cap is not securely closed, moisture may enter the system and damage the electrical components.
Multi fuse
If the multi fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows:
- Remove the fuse panel in the engine compartment.
- Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.

FAQs
The fuse box in the 2017 Kia Forte is typically located in the interior cabin or the engine compartment, providing access to essential electrical components.
Signs of a blown fuse include malfunctioning lights, power windows, or other electrical components. A visual inspection or using a test light can help identify the problematic fuse.
To replace a blown fuse, you’ll need a fuse puller or pliers to safely remove the old fuse and replace it with the correct one.
It is not recommended to use a fuse with a different amperage than specified in the diagram, as this could lead to electrical issues or damage to components.
Regularly checking fuses is advisable, especially when experiencing electrical issues. Additionally, it’s a good practice to inspect fuses during routine maintenance.
Changing a fuse is generally a straightforward process that you can do on your own. However, if issues persist, consulting a professional may be necessary for a thorough diagnosis.
Yes, a blown fuse can impact multiple electrical components simultaneously. If you experience several electrical issues, checking the fuse box is a good starting point.
Common signs include malfunctioning lights, power windows, or other electrical components. If any of these fail to operate, it could be a sign of a blown fuse.
Depending on the model, there may be specific fuses dedicated to safety features like airbags and ABS, and the fuse box diagram will indicate their locations.
In most cases, the fuse box does not require manual resetting after addressing an issue or replacing a fuse. The system should normalize once the new fuse is in place and the underlying problem is resolved.
Changing a blown fuse can certainly restore the proper functioning of electrical components, improving their performance and addressing any issues.
Yes, online forums and communities for Kia Forte owners often provide discussions and insights into fuse-related issues, sharing experiences and troubleshooting tips.
