Fuse Replacement: Kia Sportage 2016 Fuse Diagram and Details
The fuse diagram serves as a guide for changing a blown fuse in a 2016 Kia Sportage. The procedure is methodical. The fuse diagram, which shows the precise location and amperage rating of each fuse, is an essential tool that can be found in the owner’s manual or on the fuse box cover. First, cross-reference the diagram with the faulty component to determine which fuse is the problem. Once the blown fuse has been discovered, turn off the car and use the proper equipment, like needle-nose pliers or a fuse puller, to carefully remove it. It is essential to swap it out for a fresh fuse with the same amperage rating to prevent any electrical system damage. With the help of the fuse diagram, this methodical procedure guarantees a precise and effective solution, allowing 2016 Kia Sportage owners to swiftly address electrical issues and restore the functionality of the affected components.

FUSES
A vehicle’s electrical system is protected from electrical overload damage by fuses. This vehicle has 3 fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, the other in the engine compartment near the battery. If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will melt. If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Before replacing a blown fuse, disconnect the negative battery cable. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating. If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the system involved and immediately consult an authorized Kia dealer.
Three kinds of fuses are used: blade type for lower amperage rating, cartridge type, and multi fuse for higher amperage ratings.
WARNING – Fuse replacement
- Never replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.
- A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly a fire.
- Never install a wire or aluminium foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and a possible fire.
- Do not arbitrarily modify or addon electric wiring of the vehicle.
CAUTION
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system.
NOTICE
The actual fuse/relay panel label may differ depending on equipment/ options.
WARNING – Fuse fire
- When replacing a blown fuse or relay with a new one, make sure the new fuse or relay fits tightly into the clips. The incomplete fastening of fuses or relays may cause damage to the vehicle wiring and electric systems and a possible fire.
- Do not remove fuses, relays and terminals fastened with bolts or nuts. These fuses, relays and terminals may be incompletely fastened and could cause a possible vehicle fire. If fuses, relays and terminals fastened with bolts or nuts are blown, we recommend that you consult with an authorized Kia dealer to get them replaced properly.
Inner panel fuse replacement
- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Open the fuse panel cover.
- Pull the suspected fuse straight out. Use the removal tool provided on the engine compartment fuse panel cover.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. Spare fuses are provided in the engine compartment fuse panel.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips.
If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer. If you do not have a spare, use a fuse of the same rating from a circuit you may not need for operating the vehicle, such as the power outlet fuse. If the headlights or other electrical components do not work and the fuses are OK, check the fuse panel in the engine compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced.
Memory fuse
Your vehicle is equipped with a memory fuse to prevent battery discharge if your vehicle is parked without being operated for prolonged periods. Use the following procedures before parking the vehicle for prolonged periods.
- Turn off the engine.
- Turn off the headlights and tail lights.
- Open the driver’s side panel cover and pull out the memory fuse.
NOTICE
- If the memory fuse is pulled out from the fuse panel, the warning chime, audio, clock and interior lamps, etc., will not operate. Some items must be reset after replacement. Refer to “Battery” in this section.
- Even though the memory fuse is pulled out, the battery can still be discharged by operation of the headlights or other electrical devices.
❈ The actual feature may differ from the illustration.
Engine compartment fuse replacement
- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tab and pulling the cover up. When the blade type fuse is disconnected, remove it by using the clip designed for changing fuses located in the engine room fuse box. Upon removal, securely insert reserve fuse of equal quantity.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert the fuse, use the fuse puller in the engine compartment fuse panel.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION – Fuse panel covers
After checking the fuse panel in the engine compartment, securely install the fuse panel cover. If not, electrical failures may occur from water contact.
Main fuse and multi fuse
If the main fuse and multi fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
✽ NOTICE
If the multi fuse is blown, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
Visually inspect the battery cap to ensure it is securely closed. If the battery cap is not securely closed, moisture may enter the system and damage the electrical components.
Fuse/relay panel description
Inside the fuse/relay panel covers, you can find the fuse/relay label describing fuse/relay name and capacity.

FAQs
Look for a fuse with a visibly broken or melted metal strip or use a multimeter to check for continuity.
The fuse diagram is typically located in the vehicle’s manual or on the fuse box cover.
Basic tools such as a fuse puller or needle-nose pliers and replacement fuses with the correct amperage.
No, it’s crucial to replace a blown fuse with one of the same amperage rating to prevent damage to the electrical system.
Fuses protect various electrical components, including lights, power windows, audio systems, and other accessories.
It depends on the affected component. While some may be non-essential, others, like headlights, may compromise safety. It’s advisable to replace blown fuses promptly.
Power off the vehicle, locate the blown fuse using the fuse diagram, use a fuse puller to remove the old fuse, and replace it with a new one of the same amperage rating.
Regularly inspect your fuses if you notice electrical issues. Additionally, it’s a good practice during routine maintenance checks.
Some vehicles may include spare fuses in the fuse box. Check the fuse box cover or your owner’s manual for information.
Yes, a blown fuse may have a visibly broken or melted metal strip inside. However, using a multimeter is a more accurate method.
If the problem persists, there may be an underlying electrical issue, and it’s recommended to seek professional assistance.
While some issues are unavoidable, practicing proper electrical maintenance and addressing problems promptly can help prevent blown fuses.
While some issues can be resolved by replacing fuses, resetting the fuse box might not be necessary.
