Fuses and fuse box: 2017 Kia Sorento Fuse changing Tips
Replacing the fuses in a 2017 Kia Sorento is a simple procedure that is intended to maintain the electrical components of the car operating. The fuse box, which is usually accessible in places like the interior cabin or engine compartment, has a number of fuses that protect particular systems against electrical failures. Prior to changing a fuse, it is crucial to locate the faulty circuit using the fuse diagram, which is typically located in the owner’s manual. The replacement method is simple if the right tools are used, such as pliers or a fuse remover, after the necessary fuse has been located. Additionally, keeping the electrical integrity of the car depends on knowing the amperage rating and selecting the appropriate replacement fuse. These guidelines enable drivers to quickly resolve electrical problems and preserve the best possible performance of the 2017 Kia Sorento.

FUSES
A vehicle’s electrical system is protected from electrical overload damage by fuses. This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one located in the driver’s side panel bolster, the other in the engine compartment near the battery. If any of your vehicle’s lights, accessories, or controls do not work, check the appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will melt. If the electrical system does not work, first check the driver’s side fuse panel. Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating. If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the system involved and immediately consult an authorized Kia dealer. Three kinds of fuses are used: blade type for lower amperage rating, cartridge type, and multi fuse for higher amperage ratings.
WARNING – Fuse replacement
- Never replace a fuse with anything but another fuse of the same rating.
- A higher capacity fuse could cause damage and possibly a fire.
- Never install a wire or aluminum foil instead of the proper fuse – even as a temporary repair. It may cause extensive wiring damage and a possible fire.
- Do not arbitrarily modify or add on electric wiring of the vehicle.
CAUTION
Do not use a screwdriver or any other metal object to remove fuses because it may cause a short circuit and damage the system.
NOTICE
- When replacing a fuse, turn the ignition “OFF” and turn off the switches of all electrical devices then remove the battery (-) terminal.
- The actual fuse/relay panel label may differ from the equipped items.
Inner panel fuse replacement
- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Open the fuse panel cover. If the switch is located in the “OFF” position, a caution indicator will be displayed in the cluster.
- Pull the suspected fuse straight out. Use the removal tool provided on the engine compartment fuse panel cover.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. Spare fuses are provided in the engine compartment fuse panel.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips.
If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer. If you do not have a spare, use a fuse of the same rating from a circuit you may not need for operating the vehicle, such as the power outlet fuse. If the headlamp, turn signal lamp, stop signal lamp, fog lamp, DRL, tail lamp, HMSL do not work and the fuses are OK, check the fuse panel in the engine compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced.
✽ NOTICE
If the headlamp, fog lamp, turn signal lamp, or tail lamp malfunctions even without any problem to the lamps, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer for assistance.
✽ NOTICE – Fuse Panel Covers
- Put all switches in ON when driving.
- If the vehicle remains idle for over 1 month, put all switches in OFF to prevent the batteries from being discharged.
- Excluding long-term parking for over 1 month, the contact points of switches may wear out upon extensive use. Please refrain from excessive use of switches.
Fuse switch
Always, put the fuse switch at the ON position. If you move the switch to the OFF position, some items such as audio and digital clock must be reset and the transmitter (or smart key) may not work properly. When the switch is Off, the caution indicator will be displayed on the instrument cluster. Always place the fuse switch in the ON position while driving the vehicle.
Engine compartment fuse replacement
- Turn the ignition switch and all other switches off.
- Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tab and pulling the cover up. When the blade type fuse is disconnected, remove it by using the clip designed for changing fuses located in the engine room fuse box. Upon removal, securely insert reserve fuse of equal quantity.
- Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert the fuse, use the fuse puller in the engine compartment fuse panel.
- Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips. If it fits loosely, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION – Fuse Panel Covers
After checking the fuse panel inthe engine compartment, securely install the fuse panel cover through the audible clicking sound. If not, electrical failures may occur from water contact.
Multi fuse
If the main fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows:
- Turn off the engine.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
NOTICE
Do not disassemble nor assemble the multi fuse when it is secured with nuts and bolts. Incorrect or partial assembly torque may cause a fire. Have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
Main fuse
If the main fuse is blown, it must be removed as follows:
- Turn off the engine.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
✽ NOTICE
The electronic system may not function correctly even when the engine room and internal fuse box’s individual fuses are not disconnected. In such case the cause of the problem may be the disconnection of the main fuse (BFT type), which is located inside the positive battery terminal (+) cap. Since the main fuse is designed more intricately than other parts, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
Visually inspect the battery cap to ensure it is securely closed. If the battery cap is not securely closed, moisture may enter the system and damage the electrical components.
Fuse/relay panel description
Inside the fuse/relay panel covers, you can find the fuse/relay label describing fuse/relay name and capacity.✽ NOTICE
Not all fuse panel descriptions in this manual may be applicable to your vehicle. It is accurate at the time of printing. When you inspect the fuse panel in your vehicle, refer to the fuse panel label.

FAQs
The fuse box in the 2017 Kia Sorento is typically located in the engine compartment or the interior cabin, providing access to essential electrical components.
Common signs of a blown fuse include malfunctioning lights or power windows. A visual inspection of the fuse or using a test light can help identify the issue.
To change a fuse, you’ll need a fuse puller or pliers to remove the old fuse and replace it with the correct one.
It is not recommended to use a fuse with a different amperage than specified in the diagram, as this could lead to electrical issues or damage to components.
Regularly checking fuses is advisable, especially when experiencing electrical issues. Additionally, it’s a good practice to inspect fuses during routine maintenance.
Changing a fuse is generally a straightforward process that you can do on your own. However, if issues persist, consulting a professional may be necessary for a thorough diagnosis.
Yes, a blown fuse can impact multiple electrical components simultaneously. If you experience several electrical issues, checking the fuse box is a good starting point.
Common signs include malfunctioning lights, power windows, or other electrical components. If any of these fail to operate, it could be a sign of a blown fuse.
Depending on the model, there may be specific fuses dedicated to safety features like airbags and ABS, and the fuse box diagram will indicate their locations.
In most cases, the fuse box does not require manual resetting after addressing an issue or replacing a fuse. The system should normalize once the new fuse is in place and the underlying problem is resolved.
Changing a blown fuse can certainly restore the proper functioning of electrical components, improving their performance and addressing any issues.
