Introduction

The car industry has made great strides in recent years as manufacturers work to cut pollutants and increase fuel efficiency. The renowned carmaker Kia Motors has added the Idle Stop and Go (ISG) system to their newest model, the Kia Soul 2023, in keeping with this trend. The ISG system is a ground-breaking innovation that improves fuel economy by automatically turning off the engine while the car is stopped, like at a stop sign or in heavy traffic. The Idle Stop and Go technology in the Kia Soul 2023 will be discussed in detail in this 500-word introduction, with an emphasis on its advantages for both drivers and the environment.

The Kia Soul 2023’s Idle Stop and Go technology is designed to maximize engine performance and reduce fuel consumption while the vehicle is idling. Traditionally, an automobile’s engine keeps running after it comes to a stop, wasting fuel. The ISG system, on the other hand, automatically turns the engine off to save gasoline and cut back on pollutants. The engine instantly resumes as soon as the driver releases the brake pedal or engages the clutch, enabling a quick and seamless changeover to driving mode. The Kia Soul 2023 is an environmentally responsible option for motorists who care about the environment because of this innovation, which not only saves fuel but also helps to lower greenhouse gas emissions. The Idle Stop and Go technology in the Kia Soul 2023 offers drivers various benefits in addition to the environmental ones. The mechanism, which briefly shuts off the engine to create a calmer cabin atmosphere during idling periods, first helps to reduce noise pollution. This function improves the whole driving experience, enhancing occupants’ comfort and relaxation. The ISG system also prolongs the life of the engine and lowers maintenance expenses for the owners of the vehicles by reducing wear and tear on the engine components. Because of the system’s seamless integration, drivers won’t notice any lag or delay when the engine restarts, ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted driving experience.

Idle Stop and Go (ISG) System

Your vehicle may be equipped with the ISG system, which reduces fuel consumption by automatically shutting down the engine, when the vehicle is at a standstill. (For example: red light, stop sign and traffic jam) The engine starts automatically as soon as the starting conditions are met.
The ISG system is ON whenever the engine is running.

NOTICE
When the engine automatically starts by the ISG system, some warning lights (ABS, ESC, ESC OFF, EPS or Parking brake warning light) may turn on for a few seconds. This happens because of low battery voltage. It does not mean the system has malfunctioned.

Auto Stop

  2. The engine has stopped for about 5 minutes.
  3. The air conditioning is ON with the fan speed set to the highest position.
  4. The front defroster is ON
  5. The battery is weak.
  6. The cooling and heating performance of the climate control system is unsatisfactory.

Condition of ISG System Operation

The ISG system will operate under the following condition:

  1. The driver’s seatbelt is fastened
  2. The drivers door and hood are closed
  3. The brake vacuum pressure is adequate
  4. The battery sensor is activated and the battery is sufficiently charged
  5. The outside temperature is not too low or too high
  6. The vehicle is driven over a constant speed and stops
  7. The climate control system satisfies the conditions
  8. The vehicle is sufficiently warmed up
  9. The incline is gradual
  10. The steering wheel is turned less than 180 degrees and then the vehicle stops

NOTICE

  1. If the ISG system does not meet the operation condition, the ISG system is deactivated. The light on the ISG OFF button will illuminate and a message “Auto Stop conditions not met” will appear on the LCD display.
  2. If the light or notice comes on continuously, please check the operation condition.

The system may not operate when an ISG-related sensor or system error occurs.

The following will happen:

  1. The AUTO STOP ( Kia Soul 2023 Idle Stop and Go System 07 ) indicator on the instrument cluster will stay on after blinking for 5 seconds.
  2. The light on the ISG OFF button will illuminate.

NOTICE
If the ISG OFF button light is not turned off by pressing the ISG OFF button again or if the ISG system continuously does not work correctly, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

When the engine is in Idle Stop mode, it’s possible to restart the engine without the driver taking any action. Before leaving the car or doing anything in the engine compartment, stop the engine by turning the ignition switch to the LOCK/ OFF position or removing the ignition key.

NOTICE
If the AGM battery is reconnected or replaced, the ISG function will not operate immediately. If you want to use the ISG function, the battery sensor needs to be calibrated for approximately 4 hours with the ignition off. After calibration, turn the engine on and off 2 or 3 times.
