ISG (Idle Stop and Go) System

Your vehicle may be equipped with the ISG system, which reduces fuel consumption by automatically shutting down the engine when the vehicle is at a standstill. NOTICE
When the engine automatically starts by the ISG system, some warning lights (ABS, ESC, ESC OFF, EPS, or Parking brake warning light) may turn on for a few seconds.
This happens because of low battery voltage. It does not mean the system has malfunctioned.

NOTICE
If you open the engine hood in auto-stop mode, the following will happen:

  1. The ISG system will deactivate (the light on the ISG OFF button will appear).

  3. If you move the transmission lever from N to D (manual mode) or R without depressing the brake pedal after stopping the engine automatically, the engine does not restart automatically, and a warning chime alarms. When this happens, press the brake pedal for auto start.

  1. Release the brake pedal.
    or
  2. Move the shift gear to the R (Reverse) position or the manual mode while depressing the brake pedal.

The engine will start and the green AUTO STOP indicator ( Kia Soul 2023 Idle Stop and Go System 05 ) on the instrument cluster will go out.

The engine will also restart automatically without any driver actions if the following occurs:

  1. The brake vacuum pressure is low
  2. The engine stopped for about 5 minutes.
  3. The air conditioning is ON with the fan speed set to the highest position.

  5. The battery is weak.
  6. The cooling and heating performance of the climate control system is unsatisfactory.

Condition of ISG system operation

The ISG system will operate under the following condition:

  1. The driver’s seatbelt is fastened
  2. The driver’s door and hood are closed
  3. The brake vacuum pressure is adequate
  4. The battery sensor is activated and the battery is sufficiently charged
  5. The outside temperature is not too low or too high
  6. The vehicle is driven at a constant speed and stops
  7. The climate control system satisfies the conditions
  8. The vehicle is sufficiently warmed up
  9. The incline is gradual
  10. The steering wheel is turned less than 180 degrees and then the vehicle stops.

NOTICE

  1. If the ISG system does not meet the operation condition, the ISG system is deactivated. The light on the ISG OFF button will appear and the message “Auto Stop conditions not met” will appear on the LCD display.
  2. If the light or notice comes on continuously, please check the operation condition.

  1. If you wish to deactivate the ISG system, press the ISG OFF button (1). The light on the ISG OFF button will appear.
  2. If you press the ISG OFF button again, the system will be activated and the light on the ISG OFF button will turn off.

ISG system malfunction

The system may not operate when an ISG-related sensor or system error occurs.

The following will happen:

  1. The AUTO STOP ( Kia Soul 2023 Idle Stop and Go System 05 ) indicator on the instrument cluster will stay on after blinking for 5 seconds.
  2. The light on the ISG OFF button will appear.

NOTICE
If the ISG OFF button light is not turned off by pressing the ISG OFF button again or if the ISG system continuously does not work correctly, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

When the engine is in Idle Stop mode, it’s possible to restart the engine without the driver taking any action. Before leaving the car or doing anything in the engine compartment, stop the engine by turning the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position or removing the ignition key.

NOTICE
If the AGM battery is reconnected or replaced, the ISG function will not operate immediately. If you want to use the ISG function, the battery sensor needs to be calibrated for approximately 4 hours with the ignition off. After calibration, turn the engine on and off 2 or 3 times.
