Opening the liftgate
The power liftgate will open automatically by doing one of the followings:
- Press the power liftgate open button on the key for approximately one second.
- For emergency stop while power lift- gate operating, press the power lift gate open/close button shortly.
- Press the liftgate handle switch carrying the smart key with you. If all the doors are unlocked, the lift-gate can be opened without the smart key.
Closing the liftgate
The power liftgate will close automatically by doing one of the following:
When the liftgate is opened, press and hold the power liftgate open / close button. The liftgate will close automatically and the warning chime will sound.
- Press the power liftgate open/close button until the liftgate is closed completely. If the liftgate open/close but-ton is not pressed while closing, power liftgate will stop operate and warning chime will sound for approximately 5 seconds.
- For emergency stop while power lift- gate operating, press the power lift-gate open/close button shortly.
- Press the power liftgate close button when the liftgate is opened.
The liftgate will close automatically.
Power liftgate non-opening conditions
The power liftgate will not open automatically when the vehicle is moving more than 2 mph (3 km/h).
NOTICE
The chime will sound continuous if you drive over 2 mph (3 km/h) with the lift-gate opened. Stop your vehicle immediately at a safe place and check if your liftgate is opened.
CAUTION
Do not operate the power liftgate more than 5 times continuously.
It may damage the power liftgate system. If the spindle is strained due to continuous operation, the chime will sound 3 times and the power liftgate will not operate. At this time, stop operating the liftgate and leave it for more than 1 minute.
NOTICE
- The power liftgate can be operated when the engine is not running. How-ever the power liftgate operation consumes large amounts of vehicle electric power. To prevent the battery from being discharged, do not operate it excessively e.g.: more than approximately 10 times repeatedly.
- To prevent the battery from being dis- charged, do not leave the power lift-gate in the open position for a long time.
- Do not modify or repair any part of
the power liftgate by yourself, visit an authorized Kia dealer. - When jacking up the vehicle to change a tire or repair the vehicle, do not operate the power liftgate. This could cause the power liftgate to operate improperly.
- In cold and wet climates, the power liftgate may not work properly due to freezing conditions.
Automatic reversal
During power opening and closing if the power liftgate is blocked by an object or part of the body, the power liftgate will detect the resistance.
- If the resistance is detected while opening the liftgate, it will stop and move in the opposite direction.
- If the resistance is detected while closing the liftgate, it will stop and move in the opposite direction. However, if the resistance is weak such as from an object that is thin or soft, or the liftgate is near the latched position, the automatic stop and reversal may not detect the resistance. If the automatic reversal feature operates continuously more than twice during opening or closing operation, the power liftgate may stop at that position. At this time, check if there are no objects near the liftgate, and operate the liftgate automatically again.
NOTICE
- Never intentionally place any object or part of your body in the path of the power liftgate to make sure the auto-matic reversal operates.
- Never operate power liftgate attached with any heavy objects (ex. bicycles). It could damage the power liftgate.

How to reset the power liftgate
If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, or if the related fuse has been replaced or disconnected, for the power liftgate to operate normally, reset the power liftgate as follow:
- Make sure the gear is shifted to P(Park) position.
- Press and hold the Power liftgate open/close button located inside the liftgate. And then press the power liftgate outer handle switch for more than 3 seconds with pressing the power lift-gate open/close button. The chime will count.
- Close the liftgate manually.
- Press the power liftgate open button on the outside of the vehicle.
- The liftgate will open and the chime will sound.
- If the liftgate is stopped before it is fully open, resetting will not proceed. Wait until the liftgate is open fully and stopped.
If the power liftgate does not work properly after the above procedure, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

Power liftgate speed adjustment

To adjust the power liftgate opening height, go to ‘Vehicle → Door → Power Liftgate Opening Height → Level 1/Level 2/Level 3/Full Open/User Height Setting’ to adjust the vehicle’s liftgate height.

The driver may set the height of a fully opened liftgate by following the below instruction.
The liftgate opening height can be adjusted within the instrument cluster settings or the infotainment system. To adjust the power liftgate opening height, go to ‘User Settings → Door → Power Liftgate Opening Height → User Height Setting’ to adjust the vehicle’s lift-gate height.
Follow this instruction to adjust the lift-gate height:
- Adjust the liftgate to the preferred height.
- Press the power liftgate close button for approximately 3 seconds.
- After the beep sound appears, the setup is finished.
The initial setting for ‘User Height Set-ting’ is identical to ‘Full Open’. The liftgate will open to the height the driver has set up.
