Introduction

A sophisticated headlight switch and high beam control are features of the Lexus ES350 2022 that are intended to maximize visibility and safety while driving at night or in low light. You can easily control the lighting modes, such as turning on the headlights and parking lights, by using the headlight switch. You can change between low beam and high beam headlights using the high beam control, which improves visibility on the road. With these features, you can easily change and personalize the lighting settings to meet your driving requirements and guarantee a clear view in front of you.

Headlight Switch

The headlights can be operated manually or automatically.

Turning on the headlights

Canada

  1. Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 03 The side marker, parking lights/daytime running lights, tail, license plate, and instrument panel lights turn on.
  2. Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 04 The headlights and all the lights listed above (except daytime running lights) turn on.
  3. Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 05 The headlights, parking lights/daytime running lights and all the lights listed above turn on and off automatically.
  4. Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 06 (U.S.A.) Off

AUTO mode can be used when
The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.

Daytime running light system

  1. The daytime running lights illuminate using the same lights as the parking lights and illuminate brighter than the parking lights.
  2. To make your vehicle more visible to other drivers during daytime driving, the daytime running lights turn on automatically when all of the following conditions are met. (The daytime running lights are not designed for use at night.)
    1. The engine is running
    2. The parking brake is released
    3. The headlight switch is in the Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 03 or Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 05 position
    4. When the surroundings are bright
      The daytime running lights remain on after they illuminate, even if the parking brake is set again.
  3. For the U.S.A.: Daytime running lights can be turned off by operating the headlight switch Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 06 to position.
  4. Compared to turning on the headlights, the daytime running light system offers greater durability and consumes less electricity, so it can help improve fuel economy.

Headlight control sensor
The sensor may not function properly if an object is placed on the sensor, or anything that blocks the sensor is affixed to the windshield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor detecting the level of ambient light and may cause the automatic headlight system to malfunction.

Automatic light-off system

  1. When the headlights come on: The headlights and tail lights turn off 30 seconds after the driver’s door is opened and closed if the engine switch is turned to the ACCESSORY mode or turned off. (The lights turn off immediately if Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 08 on the key is pressed after all the doors are locked.)
  2. When only the tail lights come on: The tail lights turn off automatically if the engine switch is turned to the ACCESSORY mode or turned off and the driver’s door is opened.

For the U.S.A.: To turn the lights on again, turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode, or turn the light switch off once and then back to Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 03 or Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 04
For Canada: To turn the lights on again, turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode, or turn the light switch to  position once and then back to Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 03 or Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 04

Light reminder buzzer
A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned off or turned to ACCESSORY mode and the driver’s door is opened while the lights are turned on.

Automatic headlight leveling system (if equipped)
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number of passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the headlights do not interfere with other road users.

Windshield wiper linked headlight illumination
When driving during the daytime with the headlight switch turned on, if the windshield wipers are used, the headlights will turn on automatically after several seconds to help enhance the visibility of your vehicle.

Battery-saving function
In order to prevent the battery of the vehicle from discharging, if the headlights and/or tail lights are on when the engine switch is turned off the battery-saving function will operate and automatically turn off all the lights after approximately 20 minutes. When the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode, the battery-saving function will be disabled.
When any of the following are performed, the battery-saving function is canceled once and then reactivated. All the lights will turn off automatically 20 minutes after the battery-saving function has been reactivated:

  1. When the headlight switch is operated
  2. When a door is opened or closed

Welcome light illumination control
The parking lights, tail lights, and license plate lights automatically turn on at night when the doors are unlocked using the entry function or wireless remote control if the light switch is in the Lexus ES350 2023 Headlight Switch 05 position.

If “Headlight System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is displayed

Customization
Settings (e.g. light sensor sensitivity) can be changed.

Do not leave the lights on longer than necessary when the engine is not running.

  1. With the headlights on, push the lever away from you to turn on the high beams.
    Pull the lever toward you to the center position to turn the high beams off.
  2. Pull the lever toward you and release it to flash the high beams once.

You can flash the high beams with the headlights on or off.

Cornering lights
When any of the following conditions is met, while the headlights (low beam) are on, the cornering lights will additionally turn on and light up the direction of movement for the vehicle. This is to ensure excellent visibility when either driving at intersections or parking at night.

  1. The steering wheel is operated
  2. The turn signal lever is operated
  3. The shift position is in R (both left and right side cornering lights)

Cornering light control

  1. The lights illuminate when the vehicle’s speed is approximately 19 mph (30 km/h) or less. However, the lights turn off when the vehicle speed increases to approximately 22 mph (35 km/h) or more.
  2. After the lights remain illuminated for 30 minutes, they automatically turn off.

Automatic High Beam (AHB)

The Automatic High Beam uses an in-vehicle front camera to assess the brightness of streetlights, the lights of vehicles ahead, etc., and automatically turn the high beam on or off as necessary.

WARNING
Limitations of the Automatic High Beam
Do not rely on the Automatic High Beam. Always drive safely, taking care to observe your surroundings and turning the high beam on or off manually if necessary.

To prevent incorrect operation of the Automatic High Beam system
Do not overload the vehicle.

Activating the Automatic High Beam System

  2. Turn the headlight switch to the Lexus ES350 2023 Automatic High Beam 06 or Lexus ES350 2023 Automatic High Beam 07 position.
    The Automatic High Beam indicator will come on when the system is operating.

High Beam Automatic Turning on or off Conditions

  1. When all of the following conditions are met, the high beam will be automatically turned on (after approximately 1 second):
    1. Vehicle speed is above approximately 21 mph (34 km/h) or more.
    2. The area ahead of the vehicle is dark.
    3. There are no vehicles ahead with headlights or tail lights turned on.
    4. There are few streetlights on the road ahead.
  2. If any of the following conditions are met, the high beam will be automatically turned off:
    1. Vehicle speed drops below approximately 17 mph (27 km/h).
    2. The area ahead of the vehicle is not dark.
    3. Vehicles ahead have headlights or tail lights turned on.
    4. There are many streetlights on the road ahead.

Front Camera Detection Information

  1. The high beam may not be automatically turned off in the following situations:
    1. When oncoming vehicles suddenly appear from a curve
    2. When the vehicle is cut in front of by another vehicle
    3. When vehicles ahead are hidden from sight due to repeated curves, road dividers or roadside trees
    4. When vehicles ahead appear from the faraway lane on the wide road
    5. When vehicles ahead have no lights
  2. The high beam may be turned off if a vehicle ahead that is using fog lights without using the headlights is detected.
  3. House lights, street lights, traffic signals, and illuminated billboards or signs may cause the high beam to switch to the low beams, or the low beams to remain on.
  4. The following factors may affect the amount of time taken to turn the high beam on or off:
    1. The brightness of headlights, fog lights, and tail lights of vehicles ahead
    2. The movement and direction of vehicles ahead
    3. When a vehicle ahead only has operational lights on one side
    4. When a vehicle ahead is a two-wheeled vehicle
    5. The condition of the road (gradient, curve, condition of the road surface, etc.)
    6. The number of passengers and amount of luggage
  5. The high beam may be turned on or off when the driver does not expect it.
  6. Bicycles or similar objects may not be detected.
  7. In the situations shown below, the system may not be able to accurately detect sur-rounding brightness levels. This may cause the low beams to remain on or the high beams to cause problems for pedes-trians, vehicles ahead or other parties. In these cases, manually switch between the high and low beams.
    1. In bad weather (rain, snow, fog, sand-storms etc.)
    2. The windshield is obscured by fog, mist, ice, dirt etc.
    3. The windshield is cracked or damaged
    4. The front camera is deformed or dirty
    5. When the temperature of the front cam-era is extremely high
    6. Surrounding brightness levels are equal to those of headlights, tail lights or fog lights
    7. When headlights or tail lights of vehicles ahead are turned off, dirty, changing color, or not aimed properly
    8. When the vehicle is hit by water, snow, dust, etc. from a preceding vehicle
    9. When driving through an area of intermittently changing brightness and dark-ness
    10. When frequently and repeatedly driving ascending/descending roads, or roads with rough, bumpy or uneven surfaces (such as stone-paved roads, gravel roads etc.)
    11. When frequently and repeatedly taking curves or driving on a winding road
    12. There is a highly reflective object ahead of the vehicle, such as a sign or a mirror
    13. The back of a vehicle ahead is highly reflective, such as a container on a truck
    14. The vehicle’s headlights are damaged or dirty
    15. The vehicle is listing or tilting, due to a flat tire, a trailer being towed etc.
    16. The high beam and low beam are repeatedly being switched between in an abnormal manner
    17. The driver believes that the high beam may be causing problems or distress to other drivers or pedestrians nearby

Temporarily Lowering Sensor Sensitivity
The sensitivity of the sensor can be temporarily lowered.

  1. Turn the engine switch off while the following conditions are met.
    1. The headlight switch is in Lexus ES350 2023 Automatic High Beam 06 or Lexus ES350 2023 Automatic High Beam 07
    2. The headlight switch lever is in a low beam position.
    3. The Automatic High Beam switch is on.
  2. Turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode.
  3. Within 60 seconds after 2, repeat pulling the headlight switch lever to the original position then pushing it to the high beam position quickly 10 times, then leaving the lever in the high beam position.
  4. If the sensitivity is changed, the Automatic High Beam indicator turns on and off 3 times.

Automatic High Beam (headlights) may turn on even if the vehicle is stopped.

Turning the High Beam on/off Manually

Switching to high beam
Push the lever away from you.
The Automatic High Beam indicator will turn off and the high beam indicator will turn on.

Switching to low beam
Press the Automatic High Beam switch.

Temporarily switching to the low beams
Pull the lever toward you and then return it to its original position.
The high beams are on while the lever is pulled toward you. However, after the lever is returned to its original position, the low beams remain on for a certain amount of time. Afterward, the Automatic High Beam will be activated again.Lexus ES350 2022 Headlight Switch and High Beam User Manual 10

Temporarily switching to the low beams
It is recommended to switch to the low beams when the high beam may cause problems or distress to other drivers or pedestrians nearby.
