Security

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
Note: The system is not compatible with non-Lincoln aftermarket remote start systems. Use of these systems may result in engine starting problems and a loss of security protection.
Note: Metallic objects, electronic devices, or a second coded key on the same key chain may result in vehicle starting problems, especially if they are too close to the key when starting your vehicle. Prevent these objects from touching the coded key when starting your vehicle. Switch the ignition off, move all objects on the key chain away from the coded key, and restart your vehicle if a problem occurs.
Note: Do not leave a duplicate coded key in your vehicle. Always take your keys and lock all doors when leaving your vehicle.

SecuriLock®
The system helps prevent the engine from starting unless you use a coded key programmed to your vehicle. Using the wrong key may prevent your vehicle from starting. A message may appear in the information display. If you are unable to start your vehicle with a coded key, it is not operating correctly. A message may appear in the information display.

Automatic Arming
The system arms when you switch the ignition off.

Automatic Disarming
The system disarms when you switch the ignition on with a coded key.

Replacement Keys
Note: Your vehicle comes with two keys.

The intelligent access key functions as a programmed key that operates the driver door lock and turns on the intelligent access with a push button start system, as well as a remote control. If your programmed transmitters are lost or stolen and you do not have an extra coded key, you will need to have your vehicle towed to an authorized dealer. You need to erase the key codes from your vehicle and program new coded keys. Store a spare intelligent access key away from your vehicle in a safe place. You can purchase replacement keys or remote controls from an authorized dealer.

Programming a Spare Intelligent Access Key
Note: You can program a maximum of four keys to your vehicle.

You must have two previously programmed intelligent access keys inside your vehicle and the new unprogrammed intelligent access key readily accessible. You can purchase replacement keys or remote controls from an authorized dealer. Make sure that the ignition is switched off before beginning this procedure. Make sure that you close all the doors before beginning and that they remain closed throughout the procedure. Carry out all steps within 30 seconds of starting the sequence. Stop and wait for at least one minute before starting again if you carry out any steps out of sequence. Read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.

  1. Remove the key blade from the transmitter.
  2. Open the floor console storage compartment lid.
  3. Insert the first programmed key in the backup slot.
  4. Press the push-button ignition switch.
  5. Wait five seconds and then press the push-button ignition switch again.
  6. Remove the intelligent access key.
  7. Within 10 seconds, place a second programmed intelligent access key in the backup slot and press the push button ignition switch.
  8. Wait five seconds and then press the push-button ignition switch again.
  9. Remove the intelligent access key.
  10. Wait five seconds, then place the unprogrammed intelligent access key in the backup slot and press the push button ignition switch.

The programming is now complete. Check that the remote control functions operate and your vehicle starts with the new intelligent access key. If programming was unsuccessful, wait 10 seconds and repeat steps 1 through 7. If it still does not work, take your vehicle to an authorized dealer.

ANTI-THEFT ALARM

The system will warn you of an unauthorized entry to your vehicle. It will be triggered if any door, the luggage compartment or the hood is opened without using the key, remote control or keyless entry keypad.
The direction indicators will flash and the horn will sound if unauthorized entry is attempted while the alarm is armed. Take all remote controls to an authorized dealer if there is any potential alarm problem with your vehicle.

Arming the Alarm
The alarm is ready to arm when there is not a key in your vehicle. Electronically lock your vehicle to arm the alarm.

Disarming the Alarm
Disarm the alarm by any of the following actions:

  • Unlock the doors or luggage compartment with the remote control or keyless entry keypad.
  • Switch your vehicle on or start your vehicle.
  • Use a key in the driver’s door to unlock your vehicle, then switch your vehicle on within 12 seconds.

Note: Pressing the panic button on the remote control will stop the horn and signal indicators, but will not disarm the system.

Steering Wheel

ADJUSTING THE STEERING WHEEL
Do not adjust the steering wheel when your vehicle is moving.

Note: Make sure that you are sitting in the correct position.  Use the control on the side of the steering column to adjust the position.

To adjust:

  • Tilt: Press the top or bottom of the control.
  • Telescope: Press the front or rear of the control.

End of Travel Position
The steering column sets a stopping position just short of the end of the column position to prevent damage to the steering column. A new stopping position sets if the steering column encounters an object when tilting or telescoping.

To reset the steering column to its normal stopping position:

  1. Confirm there is nothing obstructing the motion of the steering column.
  2. Press and hold the steering column control until the steering column stops moving.
  3. Press the steering column control again.
Note: The steering column may begin to move again.
  4. 4. When the steering column stops, continue holding the control for a few seconds.
    5. Repeat for each direction as necessary.

A new stopping position sets. The next time you tilt or telescope the steering column, it stops just short of the end of the column position.
Memory Feature (If Equipped)
You can save and recall the steering column position with the memory function. Pressing the adjustment control during a memory recall cancels the operation.

Easy Entry and Exit Feature
The column moves up when you switch the ignition off. Switch the ignition on to return the system to its previous settings. You can switch this feature on or off in the information display.

Note: If you press any adjustment or memory button when in easy exit mode, the system cancels the operation.
Note: Depending on your vehicle, the column may move up and in.

AUDIO CONTROL
You can operate the following functions with the control:

  1. Seek down or previous.
  2. Volume up or down and mute.
  3. Seek up or next.

Seek, Next or Previous Press the seek button to:

  • Tune the radio to the next or previous stored preset.
  • Play the next or the previous track.

Press and hold the seek button to:

  • Tune the radio to the next station up or down the frequency band.
  • Seek through a track.

VOICE CONTROL
The controls are on the steering wheel. Press and release to activate voice recognition.

INFORMATION DISPLAY CONTROL
The HUD button replaces the DISP button on vehicles that have a head up display (HUD

HEATED STEERING WHEEL (IF EQUIPPED)
The heated steering wheel button is on the climate controls. Press the button to switch the heated steering wheel on and off.
Note: You can use the heated steering wheel only when the engine is running.
Note: The system uses a sensor and is designed to control the temperature of the steering wheel and to prevent it from overheating.
Note: In warm temperatures, the steering wheel quickly reaches its maximum temperature and the system reduces the current to the heating element. This could cause you to think that the system has stopped working but it has not. This is normal.

Wipers and Washers

AUTO WIPERS
Wet or winter driving conditions with ice, snow or salty road mist can cause inconsistent and unexpected wiping or smearing.

  • Autowipers On.
  • High sensitivity.
  • Low sensitivity.

Use the rotary control to adjust the sensitivity of the auto wipers. When you select low sensitivity, the wipers operate when the sensor detects a large amount of water on the windshield. When you select high sensitivity, the wipers operate when the sensor detects a small amount of water on the windshield. Keep the outside of the windshield clean. The rain sensor is very sensitive and the wipers may operate if dirt, mist or insects hit the windshield.

In these conditions, you can do the following:

  • Lower the sensitivity of the auto wipers to reduce the amount of smearing on the windshield.
  • Switch to normal or high-speed wipe.
  • Switch the auto wipers off.

Note: Fully defrost the windshield before you switch the windshield wipers on.
Note: Make sure that you switch the windshield wipers off before entering a car wash.
Note: If streaks or smears appear on the windshield, clean the windshield and the wiper blades. If that does not resolve the issue, install new wiper blades.
Note: If you switch auto lamps and auto wipers on, the headlamps turn on when the windshield wipers continuously operate.
Auto wipers Settings
This setting defaults to on and remains on until you switch it off in the information display. When you switch off autowipers, the wipers operate in intermittent mode.

Low-Temperature Wipe Inhibit (If Equipped)
The rain sensing feature will not operate immediately after starting your vehicle when it is in the park (P) and the outside temperature is below 32°F (0°C). You can switch on the wipers by adjusting the rain sensor sensitivity or adjusting the wiper speed. This prevents damage to the wiper blades from ice and snow on the windshield.

WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Pull the lever toward you to operate the windshield washers. When you release the lever, the wipers operate for a short time. When activated, a courtesy wipe occurs a short time after the wipers stop to clear any remaining washer fluid.2019-Lincoln-Continental-Flashing-the-Headlamp-High-Beam-FIG-5
Note: You can switch the courtesy wipe on or off in the information display.
Note: Do not operate the washers when the washer reservoir is empty. This could cause the washer pump to overheat.
Front Camera Washer (If Equipped)
Operating the windshield washer also turns on the front camera washer.

Lighting

GENERAL INFORMATION
Condensation in the Exterior Front Lamps and Rear Lamps Exterior front lamps and rear lamps have vents to accommodate normal changes in air pressure. Condensation can be a natural by-product of this design. When moist air enters the lamp assembly through the vents, there is a possibility that condensation can occur when the temperature is cold. When normalcondensation occurs, a fine mist can form on the interior of the lens. The fine mist eventually clears and exits through the vents during normal operation. Clearing time may take as long as 48 hours under dry weather conditions.

Examples of acceptable condensation are:

  • The presence of a fine mist (no streaks, drip marks or large droplets).
  • A fine mist covers less than 50% of the lens.

Examples of unacceptable condensation are:

  • A water puddle inside the lamp.
  • Streaks, drip marks, or large droplets are present on the interior of the lens.

If you see any unacceptable condensation, have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer.

LIGHTING CONTROL

  1. Lamps off.
  2. Parking lamps, instrument panel lamps, license plate lamps, and tail lamps.
  3. Headlamp low beam.2019-Lincoln-Continental-LIGHTING-CONTROL-FIG-7

Type One – Conventional (Non-Configurable)
The daytime running lamps turn on when:

  1. Switching the ignition on.
  2. The transmission is not in park (P) for vehicles with automatic transmissions, or releasing the parking brake for vehicles with manual transmissions.
  3. The lighting control is in the off, parking lamp, or auto lamp positions.
  4. The headlamps are off.

Type Two – Configurable
Switch the daytime running lamps on or off using the information display.

The daytime running lamps turn on when:

  1. The lamps are on in the information display.
  2. Switching the ignition on.
  3. The transmission is not in park (P) for vehicles with automatic transmissions, or releasing the parking brake for vehicles with manual transmissions.
  4. The lighting control is in the auto lamps position.
  5. The headlamps are off.

The other lighting control switch positions do not turn on the daytime running lamps. If the daytime running lamps are off in the information display, the lamps stay off in all switch positions.

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM CONTROL
The system does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with due care and attention. You may need to override the system if it does not turn the high beams on or off.

The system turns on high beams if it is dark enough and no other traffic is present. If it detects an approaching vehicle’s headlamps or tail lamps, or street lighting ahead, the system turns off high beams before they can distract other road users. Low beams remain on.

Note: The system may not operate properly if the sensor is blocked. Keep the windshield free from obstruction or damage.
Note: The system may not operate properly in cold or inclement conditions. You can switch on the high beams by overriding the system.
Note: If the system detects a blockage, for example, bird droppings, bug splatter, snow or ice, the system goes into low beam mode until you clear the blockage. A message may appear in the information display if the camera is blocked.
Note: Using much larger tires or equipping vehicle accessories such as snowplows can modify your vehicle’s ride height and degrade automatic high beam control performance.

A camera sensor, centrally mounted behind the windshield of your vehicle, continuously monitors conditions to turn the high beams on and off.

Once the system is active, the high beams turn on if:

  • The ambient light level is low enough.
  • There is no traffic in front of your vehicle.
  • The vehicle speed is greater than approximately 32 mph (51 km/h).

The system turns the high beams off if:

  • The ambient light level is high enough that high beams are not required.
  • The system detects an approaching vehicle’s headlamps or tail lamps.
  • The vehicle speed falls below approximately 27 mph (44 km/h).
  • The system detects severe rain, snow, or fog.
  • The camera is blocked.

Switching the System On and Off
Switch the system on using the information display.  Switch the lighting control to the auto lamp’s position.2019-Lincoln-Continental-ADAPTIVE-HEADLAMPS-FIG-2Overriding the System
Push the lever away from you to switch between the high beam and the low beam.

Automatic High Beam Indicator
The indicator illuminates to confirm when the system is ready to assist.

ADAPTIVE HEADLAMPS (IF EQUIPPED)
The headlamp beams move in the same direction as the steering wheel. This provides more visibility when driving around curves.

  • Without adaptive headlamps.
  • With adaptive headlamps.2019-Lincoln-Continental-ADAPTIVE-HEADLAMPS-FIG-1

The system only works with the lighting control in the auto lamp position. You can switch this feature on or off in the information display.

Note: There is a delay of two to five seconds before the system operates when you drive your vehicle.
Note: The system is only active at speeds above 3 mph (5 km/h).

System Check (If Equipped)
The system has a power-up movement check feature. When you start your vehicle, the lamps track left to right, then back to center to alert the driver that the system is working properly.
