Keys

Two keys with radio control are supplied with the vehicle.

The key is used for:

  1. starting the engine;
  2. activating the central door locking system;
  3. deactivating/activating the passenger airbag (for versions/markets where provided);
  4. opening the boot lid electrically;
  5. activating/deactivating the alarm system;
  6. locking/unlocking the glove compartment on the dashboard.

Ignition Switch
The key in the ignition switch can turn in 4 positions:

STOP Engine off, engine immobilizer and steering wheel lock activated, connected devices disabled, apart from those that are not key-controlled (e.g. centralised door lock, boot compartment opening, etc.). The key is removable.
ACC Steering lock release and position for cigarette lighter and power outlet activation. The key is not removable.
MAR Driving position: all electrical devices can operate. The key is not removable.
AVV Engine starting.

WARNING:

  1. When you get out of the vehicle, always remove the key to prevent someone from accidentally activating the controls.
  2. When leaving the vehicle, always remove the key from the ignition switch and lock your vehicle.
  3. Never leave children alone in a vehicle, or with access to an unlocked vehicle.
  4. Allowing children to be in a vehicle unattended is dangerous for a number of reasons. A child or others could be seriously or fatally injured. Children should be warned not to touch the parking brake switch, brake pedal or the shift lever.
  5. Do not leave the key in or near the vehicle, and do not leave the key in the ignition switch in the ACC or MAR position. A child could operate power windows, other controls, or move the vehicle.
  6. Do not leave children or animals inside parked vehicles in hot weather. Interior heat build-up may cause serious injury or death.
  7. An unlocked car is an invitation to thieves. Always remove the key from vehicle, set the ignition switch to STOP and lock all doors when leaving the vehicle unattended.
  8. In the event of tampering with the starter switch (e.g. attempted theft), have it checked by the Service Network before restarting the vehicle.

The key can be removed from the ignition switch only when the transmission lever is in position P (Park). If the transmission lever is shifted to P (Park) after turning off the engine, the key can only be removed within 30 seconds from turning it to STOP position. If you do not remove the key within 30 seconds, you will need to turn it back to MAR and then to STOP position to have a further 30 seconds within which to remove the key. In the event that the key unlocking system fails or if it is not possible to shift the transmission lever to P (Park) position, to remove the key from the ignition switch you must turn it to STOP position, then:

  1. remove the cap indicated in the picture using a pen or sufficiently pointed tool;
  2. press the button just uncovered and at the same time extract the key;
  3. once the key has been removed, refit the cap.

WARNING!
After stopping the vehicle, always shift the transmission lever to P (Park).

Immobilizer System

The Maserati CODE System
In order to increase protection against theft, the vehicle is equipped with an electronic engine immobilizer system (Maserati CODE), which is automatically activated when the key is removed from the ignition switch. Each starter key contains an electronic device that transmits a code signal to the Maserati CODE control unit, and engine ignition is enabled only if the key code is recognised by the system.

Key Codes
A CODE card is supplied with the keys. This card indicates the following:

  1. the “ELECTRONIC CODE” to be used for emergency starting (see “Emergency Starting with Maserati Code” in section “In an Emergency”);
  2. the “MECHANICAL CODE” to be provided to the Service Network if you request duplicates of the keys.

NOTE:

  1. The code numbers shown on the CODE card should be kept in a safe place.
  2. You are advised to always keep the CODE card number with you, as it is absolutely necessary in the event of “Emergency Starting”.
  3. In the event of a vehicle ownership transfer, it is essential that the new owner is provided with all the keys and with the CODE card.
  4. It is advisable to write down and keep the codes listed on the plates delivered with the keys and the remote control in a safe place (not in the vehicle) in order to request duplicates if needed.

CODE System Operation
Each time the key in the ignition switch is removed in the STOP position, protection system activates the engine immobilizer.

Duplicating the Keys
When ordering additional keys, remember that the storage procedure (up to a maximum of 7 keys) must be performed for all the keys, including those already in your possession. Contact the Maserati Service Network directly, bringing with you all the keys in your possession, the Maserati CODE card, the electronic alarm system CODE CARD, a personal ID, and the identification and registration documents proving ownership of the vehicle. The codes of any keys that are not available when the new storage procedure is performed will be deleted from the memory to prevent any lost or stolen keys from being used to start the vehicle.
