The 2020 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan’s multimedia system is an elegant fusion of modern technology, luxury, and convenience. This multimedia system, which was created to improve the driving experience, effortlessly combines entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and advanced functions, all of which are easily accessible to the driver and passengers. The system’s brain is a central touchscreen display with high resolution that acts as the command hub for managing multiple operations. With the help of a user-friendly, simple interface, tenants can easily access and manage a variety of features. The multimedia system offers a smart and immersive experience while modifying climate settings, using maps, or enjoying multimedia material. Internet connection
Information on connecting to the Internet

WARNING
Risk of distraction from information systems and communications equipment
If you operate information and communication equipment integrated in the vehicle when driving, you will be distracted from the traffic situation. This could also cause you to lose control of the vehicle.

1. Only operate this equipment when the traffic situation permits.
2. If you cannot be sure of this, stop the vehicle whilst paying attention to road and traffic conditions and operate the equipment with the vehicle stationary.

You must observe the legal requirements for the country in which you are currently driving when operating the multimedia system.

WARNING
Risk of an accident from operating mobile communication equipment while the vehicle is in motion
Mobile communications devices distract the driver from the traffic situation. This could also cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

1. As the driver, only operate mobile communications devices when the vehicle is stationary.
2. As a vehicle occupant, only use mobile communications devices in the areas intended for this purpose, e.g. in the rear passenger compartment.

You must observe the legal requirements for the country in which you are currently driving when operating mobile communication equipment in the vehicle.
The Internet functions can only be used to a limited degree whilst driving.

Function of the communication module
On vehicles with a built-in communication module, the Internet connection is established via an integrated SIM card.

To use Internet access via the communication module the following conditions must be met:

1. Mercedes me connect is active and ready for operation.
2. Mercedes me connect is activated for Inter‐ net access.
3. In some countries: data volume via Mercedes me connect is available.

In some countries: if the data volume limit is reached, the availability of Mercedes me con‐nect services is limited. The data volume must be purchased via Mercedes me connect. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center to find out whether it is possible to pur‐chase data volume in your country.

Establishing an Internet connection 

1. The multimedia system usually establishes the Internet connection automatically. If the multimedia system is not connected to the Internet, the Internet connection is established when an Internet application is used.
2. The availability of the function is dependent on the country.

4. A fast Internet connection for data transmission free of interference.
5. New data volumes can be purchased in the Mercedes me portal

Selecting and connecting to a TuneIn radio station

1. Select.

6. A relatively large volume of data can be transmitted when using TuneIn radio.

Saving/deleting a TuneIn radio station as a favorite

1. Select a station.

   The list of saved favorite stations appears.
3. Select Add to Favorites.
4. Create an account for the online provider (TuneIn radio) and then log in on the multi‐media system.
   Your favorites are imported to the multimedia system.

Deleting favorites

1. Select a station.

Setting the TuneIn radio options
The following options are available:

1. Select Stream: select the stream quality.
2. Login to TuneIn Account: log in to your TuneIn user account.
3. Log Out of Account: log out of your TuneIn user account.

If you handle a data storage medium while driving, your attention is diverted from the traffic conditions. This could also cause you to lose control of the vehicle.

1. Only handle a data storage medium when the vehicle is stationary.

The multimedia system supports the follow‐ing formats and data media:

Observe the following notes:

1. The multimedia system supports a total of up to 50,000 files.
2. Data storage media up to 2 TB are supported (32‑bit address space).
3. Due to the large variety of available music and video files regarding encod‐ers, sampling rates and data transfer rates, playback cannot be guaranteed.
4. Due to the wide range of USB devices available on the market, playback cannot be guaranteed for all USB devices.
5. Videos up to FullHD (1920×1080) are supported.
6. Copy-protected music and video files or DRM (Digital Rights Management) encrypted files cannot be played back.
7. MP3 players must support Media Trans‐ fer Protocol (MTP).

Audio files which you create yourself (e.g. copies of data storage media you make yourself) are generally subject to copyright protection. In many countries, reproductions are not permitted without the prior consent of the copyright holder, even for private use. Connecting the data storage medium to the multimedia system

NOTE
Damage caused by high temperatures High temperatures can damage USB devices.
Remove the USB device after use and take it out of the vehicle.

The multimedia connection unit is found in the stowage compartment under the armrest and has two type C USB ports. Depending on the vehicle’s equipment, additional USB ports can be found in the stowage compartment of the center console or rear folding compartment.

1. Connect the USB device to the USB port.
2. USB hubs cannot be connected with the multimedia system.
3. When connecting several Apple® devices simultaneously, pay attention to the order in which the devices are connected. The multi‐media system only connects with the device that is connected first. Additional Apple® devices that are connected at the same time are only supplied with power.

Searching for and authorizing a Bluetooth® audio device
Requirements:

1. Bluetooth® is activated on the multimedia system and audio equipment.
2. The audio equipment supports the Blue‐tooth® audio profiles A2DP and AVRCP.
3. The audio equipment is “visible” for other devices.

Authorizing a new Bluetooth® audio device

1. Select Connect New Device.
   Detected equipment is displayed in the device list.
2. Select an audio device.
   Authorization starts. A code is displayed on the multimedia system and on the mobile phone.
3. If the codes are identical, confirm on the audio equipment.
4. Select Only as Bluetooth Audio Device.
   The Bluetooth® audio equipment is connec‐ted with the multimedia system.

Connecting previously authorized Bluetooth® audio equipment

1. Select a Bluetooth® audio device from the list.
   The connection is established.

Controlling media playback

1. To pause playback: select .
2. To continue playback: select .
3. To repeat a track: select .
   For the repeat function there are the following settings:

    

   1. Select once: the active playlist is repeated.
   2. Select twice: the current track is repeated.
   3. Select three times: the repeat function is deactivated.
4. To play back tracks in random order: select .
5. To wind a track forwards or backwards: tap on the desired point on the timeline.
6. To select the next track: select .
7. To select the previous track: select .
8. To scroll through tracks quickly: press and holdor .
9. To show the current track list: select the track image shown.

Additional options for setting media play‐back
The following options are available:

1. Surprise Mix
   A playlist with randomly selected tracks is created.
2. Add to Favorite Songs
   The current track is added to the favorite songs.
3. Remove from Favorite Songs
   The current track is removed from the favor‐ite songs.
4. Select an option.

Media search
Notes about the search function in categories
Under you can search through all available media files. There are several categories available for selection. The categories shown depend on the connected device and data format.

Sorting results shown or playing back all media found

1. Select .
2. To play back all results found in the category: select Play All.
   If, for example, the Albums category is active, all albums found by the desired artist will be played back.
3. To sort results alphabetically: select Sort from A-Z.
4. To sort results in reverse alphabetical order: select Sort from Z-A.
5. The available options depend on the selec‐ted category and the connected device.

Using the keyword search
You can look for content using the keyword search with free text input.

1. Select.
   A keyboard for character entry appears.
2. Enter the term searched for.
3. The search begins with the first character entered. The more characters entered the more concrete the search results become.
4. Select the desired entry from the result list. If the selected result is an album, song or a playback list then playback is started. If the selected result is a new category then this is opened in the search.

Radio

Switching on the radio
Alternatively: press the button. The radio display appears. You will hear the last station played on the last frequency band selected.

Setting the waveband
The following frequency bands are available:

Moving stations

1. Press and hold a stored station.

3. Move the station to the new position.

Deleting stations

2. Select Delete.

Replacing a station

Satellite radio

Information on the satellite radio
SIRIUS XM® satellite radio offers more than 175 digital-quality radio channels providing 100%commercial-free music, sports, news and enter‐tainment, for example. SIRIUS XM satellite radio employs a fleet of high-performance satellites to broadcast around the clock throughout the USA and Canada. The satellite radio program is avail‐able for a monthly fee. Information about this can be obtained from a Sirius XM® Service Cen‐ter and at http://www.siriusxm.com (USA) or http://www.siriusxm.ca (Canada). Satellite radio restrictions
Satellite radio mode may be temporarily unavail‐able or interrupted for a variety of reasons. These include environmental or topographical conditions beyond the control of Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. Thus, operation at certain locations may not be possible.

Registering satellite radio
Requirements:

1. Satellite radio equipment is available.
2. Registration with a satellite radio provider has been completed.
3. If registration is not included when purchasing the system, your credit card details will be required to activate your account

Multimedia system:

1. Select Service Information.
   The service information screen appears showing the radio ID and the current subscription status.
2. Establish a telephone connection.
3. Follow the service staff’s instructions.
   The activation process may take up to ten minutes.
4. You can also have the satellite service activated online. To do so, please visit http://www.siriusxm.com (USA) or http://www.siriusxm.ca (Canada).

Music and sport alerts function
This function enables you to program an alert for your favorite artists, tracks or sporting events. Music alerts can be saved whilst a track is being played and sport alerts can be saved during a live game. You can also specify sport alerts via the menu option. The system then continuously searches through all the channels. If a match is found with a stored alert, you will be informed.

1. Select Add Alert.
2. Select Artists or Song in the dialog window. The alert is set for the current artist or track. If a match is found, a prompt appears asking whether you wish to change to the station.

1. Activate O Activate Sports Alerts.

Setting a sport alert

1. Select Add Alert.
2. Select the team name or league in the dialog window.

Deleting individual sports and music alerts

1. Select Manage Music Alerts.
2. Select Manage Sports Alerts.
3. Select an artist or track.
4. Select a team.
5. Select Delete Selected Entries.
   All highlighted alerts are deleted.

Deleting all sports and music alerts

1. Select Manage Music Alerts.

   All alerts are deleted.

Information about Smart Favorites and TuneStart
From the station presets you can set up to eight stations as Smart Favorites. Smart Favorites sta‐tions are automatically saved to temporary stor‐age in the background. If you change to a Smart Favorites station, you can replay, pause or actively skip forward or back to broadcasts which you have missed. If Tune Start is activated and you change to another Smart Favorites sta‐tion, the music track currently playing on the station is automatically restarted from the begin‐ning of the track.

Adding a channel to Smart Favorites
Multimedia system:

1. Press and hold on the station logo until the Options menu appears.
2. To add a channel: select Add to Smart Favorites in the menu.
3. To remove a channel: select Delete from Smart Favorites in the menu.

In order to listen to seamless music, you can put together a TuneMix list from various stations.

1. Select Create TuneMix List.
2. If necessary, limit the number of stations shown using the Category entry.
3. Select the station shown .
4. Press to confirm.
5. A TuneMix station logo is created in the radio menu.

Switching on satellite radio playback control Multimedia system:
You can pause the playback of the current station or skip forward or backward in the timeline. This leaves live mode to access the internal tem‐porary storage.

2. To fast forward/rewind: tap anywhere on the timeline.

4. To return to live mode: navigate to the end of the timeline.

The Burmester® surround sound system has a total output of 590 W and is equipped with 12 speakers. It is available for all functions in the radio and media modes.
