Mercedes-Benz S-CLASS SEDAN 2023 Diagnostics

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-CLASS Sedan has a diagnostics connection, which is a technological interface utilized in specialized workshops for car maintenance, repair, and data reading. It is stressed that to prevent damaging car systems and operational safety, diagnostic devices should only be attached in a certified specialized workshop. Any issues with the car should be reported right away to an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center, especially if they compromise safety. Unauthorized device connections to the diagnostics connection may also result in malfunctions, irreversible harm to car parts, or interference with emissions monitoring, which may affect the results of emissions inspections.

The diagnostics connection is a technical interface in the vehicle. It is used, for example, during repair and maintenance work or for reading out vehicle data in a specialist workshop. Diagnostic devices should therefore only be connected in a qualified specialist workshop.

WARNING
Risk of accident due to connecting devices to the diagnostics connection If you connect devices to the diagnostics connection of the vehicle, the function of vehicle systems and operating safety may be impaired.

  • For safety reasons, we recommend that you use and connect only products approved by an authorized Mercedes-Benz Service Center.

WARNING
Risk of accident due to objects in the driver’s footwell.
Objects in the driver’s footwell may impede pedal travel or block a depressed pedal.

This jeopardizes the operating and road safety of the vehicle:

  • Stow all objects in the vehicle securely so that they cannot get into the driver’s footwell.
  • Always install the floor mats securely and as prescribed to ensure that there is always sufficient room for the pedals.
  • Do not use loose floor mats and do not place floor mats on top of one another.

NOTE
Battery discharging from using devices connected to the diagnostics connection

Using devices at the diagnostics connection drains the battery.

  • Check the charge level of the battery.
  • If the charge level is low, charge the battery, e.g. by driving a considerable distance.

Please also note the information about the 12 V battery and short-distance trips in the “Driving and Parking” chapter.Diagnostics Connection1

Connecting and using another device with the diagnostics connection can have the following effects:

  • Malfunctions in the vehicle system
  • Permanent damage to vehicle components

Please refer to the warranty terms and conditions for this matter. Moreover, connecting equipment to the diagnostics connection can lead to emissions monitoring information being reset, for example. This may lead to the vehicle failing to meet the requirements of the next emissions inspection during the main inspection.

Qualified Specialist Workshop
An authorized Mercedes-Benz Service Center is a qualified specialist workshop. It has the necessary special skills, tools and qualifications to correctly carry out the work required on your vehicle. This particularly applies to safety-relevant work.

Always have the following work carried out on your vehicle at a qualified specialist workshop:

  • Safety-relevant work
  • Service and maintenance work
  • Repair work
  • Modifications as well as installations and conversions
  • Work on electronic components
  • Plug-in hybrid: work on the hybrid system
  • Vehicles with 48 V on-board electrical system:
    • Work on the high-voltage component of the 48V on-board electrical system

Mercedes‑Benz recommends a Mercedes‑Benz Service Center.

Correct Use of the Vehicle
If you remove any warning stickers, you or others could fail to recognize certain dangers. Leave warning stickers in position.

Observe the following information in particular when driving your vehicle:

  • The safety notes in this Operator’s Manual, vehicle-specific supplements, and further supplementary documents
  • Technical data for the vehicle R traffic rules and regulations
  • laws and safety standards about motor vehicles

Notes for Persons with Electronic Medical Aids
Mercedes-Benz AG cannot, despite carefully developing vehicle systems, completely rule out the interaction of vehicle systems with electronic medical aids such as cardiac pacemakers. In addition, there are components installed in the vehicle that, regardless of the operating status of the vehicle, can generate magnetic fields on par with permanent magnets. These fields can be found, for example, in the area around the multi-media and sound system or also in the area of the seats, depending on the vehicle equipment.

For this reason, the following can occur in isolated cases, depending on the aids used:

  • Medical aids malfunctioning
  • Adverse health effects

Observe the notes and warnings of the manufacturer of the medical aids; if in doubt, contact the device manufacturer and/or your doctor. If there is continuing uncertainty concerning the possibility of medical aids malfunctioning, Mercedes-Benz AG recommends using only a few electrical vehicle systems and/or maintaining a distance from the components.

Plug-in Hybrid
When charging the high-voltage battery, keep a distance of at least an arm’s length between the medical aid and the following components:

  • The power supply equipment

This includes charging stations in the form of a wall box or a public charging point, for example.

  • Vehicle components carrying live voltage

This includes the charging cable and the charging control box, for example.

Only have repairs and maintenance work in the area of the following components carried out at a qualified specialist workshop:

  • Vehicle components carrying live voltage
  • Transmission antenna
  • Multimedia system and sound system

If you have any queries or suggestions, consult a qualified specialist workshop.
