Special Characteristics</h3

  • The anti-theft alarm will remain active when vehicles are unlocked. However, the alarm will not be triggered.
  • After the driver door is opened, you have 15 seconds to switch on the ignition. Once this time has elapsed, the alarm is triggered.
  • Switch the ignition on. The electronic immobilizer recognizes a valid vehicle key and de-activates the anti-theft alarm system.
  • If the central locking system should fail to work at any time, doors with no lock cylinder will have to be locked separately.
A mechanical locking device (only visible when the door is open) is provided on the front passenger door.

A shows the basic child restraint system mounting using lower retaining rings and the upper retaining strap.  B shows the child restraint system mounting using the vehicle seat belt.
The seat belt may be used to secure universal-type child seats to the vehicle seats marked with a U in the table below. In the passenger seat with height regulation: the passenger seat must be in its rear-most and highest position1). To correctly use a child seat in the back, the front backrest must be adjusted so that there is no contact with the child seat in the back in case it goes opposite to the direction of the car. In the case of front-facing restraint systems, the front backrest must be adjusted so that there is no contact with the child’s feet. To adjust the passenger seat to accommodate a child’s seat and get the seat belt in a perfect position, adjust the passenger backrest as far forward as possible1).

If a semi-universal type chair is to be install-led, in which the method of attachment to the car is through the seat belt and support bracket, it should never be installed in the central rear seat as the ground clearance is lower than in other places and the support bracket will not allow the seat to remain sufficiently stable.
For a correct assembly of the children’s seat on the second row, adjust or dismount the headrest, in order to prevent contact with the chair.

Securing child seats with “ISOFIX” and Top Tether

Child seats can be secured quickly, easily, and safely on the rear outer seats of the second row of seats and the front passenger seat with the “ISOFIX” and Top Tether system. Each of the side rear seats of the second row of seats and the front passenger seat has two “ISOFIX” fastening rings. In some vehicles, the rings are secured to the seat frame. The “ISOFIX” rings are located between the backrest and the seat cushioning of the rear seat and of the front passenger seat. The Top Tether rings are located on the rear part of the backrests of the rear seats (behind the seat backrest or in the boot). For the front passenger seat, the ring is below the backrest. To understand the compatibility of the “ISO-FIX” systems in the vehicle, consult the table below. The body weight permitted and information regarding sizes A to F is indicated on the label on child seats with “universal” or “semi-uni-versal” certification.

Using the Top Tether in rear-facing mounted seats

Currently, there are very few rear-facing child safety seats that have Top Tether. Please carefully read and follow the seat manufacturer’s instructions to learn the proper way to install the Top Tether strap.
Securing the retainer strap

  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to deploy the child seat Top Tether retainer strap.
Position the belt under the head restraint  (depending on the instructions of the seat itself, lift or remove the head restraint if necessary).
Slide the strap and secure it properly with the anchorage of the backrest.
Firmly tighten the strap following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Releasing the retaining strap

Loosen the strap following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Push the lock and release it from the an-choring support.

Starting the vehicle

The vehicle engine is started with a starter button (Press & Drive). To do so, there must be a valid key inside the vehicle in the area of the front or rear seats. In vehicles with the Keyless Access system, the engine can also be started with the key in the luggage compartment. Opening the driver’s door when exiting the vehicle activates the electronic lock on the steering column if the ignition is disabled. Start the engine (Press & Drive).

Removing the cover from the selector lev-er

  • Apply the electronic parking brake to ensure that the car does not move.
  • Carefully pull the corners of the selector lever boot and twist it upwards above the lever handle.
  • The essentials

  • If the power supply should ever fail (e.g. dis-charged battery) and the vehicle has to be pushed or towed, the selector lever must first be moved to position N, after operating the manual release mechanism.
  • WARNING
  • The selector lever must only be moved out of position P when the electronic parking brake is applied. If this does not work, secure the vehicle with the brake pedal. On a slope, the vehicle could otherwise start to move inadvertently after shifting the selector lever out of position P – accident risk!

If the engine oil level is too low
You can get information about the correct engine oil for your vehicle in your specialized shop. If you have to change your engine oil, use this oil.
If the recommended engine oil is not available, in the event of an emergency you can change the oil once with a maximum of 0.5 L of the next oil until the next oil change:

  • Petrol engines: standard VW 504 00, VW 502 00, VW 508 00, ACEA C3 or API SN.
  • Diesel engines: standard VW 507 00, VW 505 01, ACEA C3, or API CK-4.
  • Coolant
  • The coolant tank is located in the engine compartment.
When the engine is cold, replace the coolant when the level is below. Coolant specificationsThe engine cooling system is supplied from the factory with a specially treated mixture of water and at least 40 % of the additive G13 (TL-VW 774 J), purple. This mixture gives the necessary frost protection down to -25°C (-13°F) and protects the light alloy parts of the engine cooling system against corrosion. It also prevents scaling and considerably raises the boiling point of the coolant. To protect the cooling system, the percentage of additives must always be at least 40 %, even in warm climates where anti-freeze protection is not required. If for weather reasons further protection is necessary, the proportion of additive may be increased, but only up to 60 %; otherwise antifreeze protection will diminish and this will worsen cooling. When the coolant is topped up, use a mixture of distilled water and at least 40 % of the G13 or G12 plus-plus (TL-VW 774 G) additive (both are purple) to obtain an optimum anti-corrosion protection in Topping coolant. The mixture of G13 with G12 plus (TL-VW 774 F), G12 (red) or G11 (green-blue) engine coolants will significantly reduce anti-corrosion protection and should therefore be avoided in Topping up coolant. The brake fluid reservoir is located in the engine compartment. The level should be between the and marks. If it is below, please visit a Technical Service.

In areas with sufficient mobile and GPS signals, the mobile phone network of the operator may not be available; in this case, the system will connect to a network with a good enough signal to make the emergency phone call.
  • In some countries, the emergency phone call service may not be available.
The components of the vehicle required for emergency phone calls are damaged or do not get enough power.
