Changing Fuses
Please note
WARNING
If you manipulate, bridge or replace a faulty fuse with a fuse of a higher amperage, the electric cables could be overloaded. This may result in a fire. There is a risk of an accident and injury.
Always replace faulty fuses with specified new fuses of the correct amperage.
Only use fuses that have been approved for smart vehicles and which have the correct fuse rating for the system concerned. Components or systems could otherwise be damaged.
Make sure that no moisture can enter the fuse box when the cover is open.
The electrical fuses disconnect defective circuits. If a fuse blows, all the connected components and their functions will fail.
Blown fuses must be replaced with fuses of the same rating, which you can recognise by the colour and fuse rating. The fuse ratings are listed in the fuse allocation chart.
If new fuses blow, the cause for this must be diagnosed and rectified at a qualified specialist workshop.

FAQs
The fuse box contains the fuses that protect the electrical systems of the car from overloads and failures.
The fuse box in the Smart Forfour is typically positioned in easily accessible positions, such as under the dashboard or in the engine compartment.
To gain access to the fuse box, normally remove the lid by loosening the clips or screws that keep it in place.
Fuse ratings show the maximum current that can pass through them before they “blow” and disrupt the circuit.
A blown fuse frequently has a visible broken wire or a hazy look. A multimeter can also be used to confirm whether or not a fuse has blown.
Yes, changing a blown fuse is usually simple. Consult the owner’s handbook for the precise fuse arrangement and ratings, then replace the blown fuse with a new one of the same rating.
The major tools required are a fuse remover or needle-nose pliers, as well as replacement fuses with the appropriate rating.
In most circumstances, it is not required to unplug the battery when replacing fuses.
If replacing the fuse does not solve the problem, it may suggest a deeper electrical problem that necessitates professional evaluation.
It is strongly discouraged to use a higher-rated fuse because it can cause harm to the car’s electrical components. Always use the fuse rating that is provided
Yes, fuses are assigned to different systems such as lighting, audio, power windows, and other electrical components. A diagram outlining their locations should be included in the fuse box.
Repeatedly blown fuses may indicate an underlying problem in the electrical system. Consult a qualified mechanic to identify and repair the problem.
For emergency replacements, the car normally comes with a few spare fuses of various ratings.
In most cases, fuses do not require routine maintenance. If electrical problems emerge, however, checking and replacing blown fuses can solve them.
To ensure the proper operation and safety of the car’s electrical systems, use fuses from renowned brands that match the necessary ratings.
